Chapter 22 Scolded: Painful Past
**************
CHAPTER 21
It felt as though eyes bored into her head from the side and she knew how guilty she was.
The more he glared at her, the smaller he made her feel with his intimidating aura.
'I just angered the ghost emperor, didn't I? But it was for those tantalizing meatballs. Even if I die now, I feel accomplished.' She smiled briefly at her thoughts.
But that was all they were, thoughts. She dared not voice it out, lest she met her doom.
"I was going to reward you with the dishes if you behaved, but now... No more."
Her mouth fell open. His words felt like mental torture. While he had the last laugh, she could not believe she gave up all those dishes for some meatball.

Just watching the several facial expressions she gave while her thoughts spiralled in several directions made him want to have a long laugh but being who he was, he remained composed.
To make matters worse, Liu Xueyi stood up and began clearing the dishes. He placed them on the tray and left only her soup for her.
Left with no choice, she obediently ate the soup and returned the plate.
By the time they were all done, he wore his smile mischievously and ushered her to sit in his living room.
As gorgeously designed as the big living room was, she just could not pay any attention to it. All her mind was on at the moment, were those delicacies he took away.
"What are your plans now?"
Lifting her head slowly, she brought her gaze to his face, pouting at him. "Hmm?"
"Where do you live? I would drive you home."
She let out a sigh, pushing her pained thoughts away for now. "Do not worry about that. Meanwhile, do you know if they have the umm-like local market for veggies and raw foodstuff here?"
"They do."
"No. Even if they do, I bet the prices would be way higher," she muttered to herself. "Umm..." she looked at him again. "Can you please drive me to the one outside the estate?"
"That's not your home."
The second he said that she pouted again, giving her a much cuter face. "I still feel dizzy and lightheaded from the alcohol yesterday. So..."
He interjected. "I did not want to speak on that but now I would." She felt the temperature suddenly drop and his charming face turn cold as he began. "What the hell were you thinking going out to a club without any friend in tow?"
"I do not have..." she closed her mouth. It would be laughable, she thought.
"No, you stupidly did that and got yourself drunk. Do you know how dangerous that could have been? You could have been taken advantage of and no one would be able to help you."
At the mention of being taken advantage of, her mind switched back to the memories of that night and how he broke her hymen.
The thought made her eyes sting as she fought back the urge to cry. He was right. But could he blame her? She did not have friends, to begin with save for Gu Jun and that useless ex of hers.
The few she had resided in Paris. Only she and Gu Jun returned. Then she was always with Wu Bai and was reserved.
He was her world after she left her father's house. And now that he turned on her... she was left alone.
"Who sleeps on the shoulders of a supposed stranger?" He broke her out of her reverie with that question.
"But it was you, not any stranger," she retorted.
"A chance in a million! Besides, you did not even believe I was the one. Gosh! Are you not scared?!" He hollered at her, causing her to shrink some more.
All his words brought back memories she wished not to dwell on which were the cause of her getting drunk yesterday.
And although he never meant to take it that far, the more he thought about the what-ifs... The angrier he got.
Not at her though, but at himself. He knew the dangers of friends as well. They got him drugged and he took advantage of a drugged girl.
His memories betrayed him at that moment and the memories of what he did came hunting him. That was why he yelled at her and his anger rose. He did not wish for such to happen to any girl.
It was why he wished to take responsibility but she was nowhere to be found.
After some minutes of not speaking while they battled with their painful thoughts, his voice softened. "I'm sorry. I crossed the line."
"No. You were right. And to make matters worse, I can ruin your image if I was picked up by a bad man who would make a video. Then I would no longer be your top designer."
She lifted her gaze back to his face. For a moment there, she saw genuine pain in his eyes and worry. It almost mirrored hers just that she wasn't worried like he was.
He too was taken aback when he gazed into her teary eyes. He did go far, didn't he?
"Still. I had no right."
"Fine, if you feel sorry then, shouldn't you accompany me since I am not fully recovered?"
Although she felt sad, she had made her request to get back at him for not giving her those delicacies. Sadly, things went out of control.
"You conniving..." he let out a small sigh. "You win. I fell into your trap."
She flashed him her trademark smile before relaxing against the couch. 'This feels good to win. And it would feel better to make Wu Bai and Beatrice Zhang pay for all they have done and these tears.'
"Alright, I would get my keys and change then we can leave."
"Thanks"
"I owe it to you so no need to thank me."
"No. It's not that. Thanks for last night. I owe you one."
"Now that's two favours you owe right there. Well, at least you did not go about pricing my services because Miss, you would not be able to pay for it."
"Cheeky. Who knew the CEO of Liu Corporation was inexorable?"
"Trust me, you would be able to repay those favours you owe me." He winked at her, straightened up, and said, "I'll be back."
