Chapter 1953: We Are Destined to Be Enemies

Chapter 1953: We Are Destined to Be Enemies

Gu Yuena had already accepted Tang Wulin's ring, so what was she doing now?

No one was more astonished than Tang Wulin himself, who was staring at Gu Yuena with astonishment and befuddlement in his eyes.

"Gu Yue, what..."

Gu Yuena's eyes were filled with tears as she said, "If there's a next life, then I'll be sure to become your wife. I love you, too, Wulin, but have you really not figured it out yet? There's no way we can be together. From the instant that I first awakened, we were destined to be enemies."

Tang Wulin stared blankly at her as he yelled, "But that's not important, Gu Yue! Of course I've already figured out the fact that you're not human, and I'm also aware of the damage the human race has caused to the world of soul beasts. However, you're now the Spirit Pagoda chairwoman, giving you control over all soul spirit production. Also, isn't the Myriad Beast Plane that you created currently breeding soul beasts? Before long, the soul beasts will experience a resurgence. Everything that the human race has already done is irreversible, but in the future, I'm willing to help you better the relationship between humans and soul beasts."

A stunned look appeared in Gu Yuena's eyes upon hearing this. "You already knew?"

A wry smile appeared on Tang Wulin's face. "I'm not an idiot; how could I have not noticed that something was amiss? I already began to suspect this from the first time you told me the story of the Dragon God, and I finally put all the pieces together when my father told me about the origins of my Golden Dragon King bloodline. No ordinary person could possibly know about the story of the Dragon God. I've checked through all of the files of Shrek Academy and the Tang Sect, and I found no relevant information; the Spirit Pagoda was founded even later than us, so there's no way they would have such records, either.

"However, I still wasn't sure at that time, but what really sealed the deal for me was our Dragon God Transformation. It was clear to me that that was a fusion between the two halves of the Dragon God, and my suspicions were confirmed then. I also figured out that your motives for joining the Spirit Pagoda definitely weren't as simple as they looked, but that doesn't matter. I've always been watching you, and I know that you haven't done anything to the detriment of the human race. Now, everything has changed; we defeated the abyssal plane together, and you're a hero of the human race.

"Both of us are now extremely influential figures on the Douluo Continent, and I'd be more than willing to help you establish a habitat for soul beasts to flourish in in the future."

Gu Yuena was clearly quite taken aback by this turn of events, but the tears in her eyes gradually disappeared, and a wry smile appeared on her face.

"So you really did know all along."

From Gu Yuena's expression, Tang Wulin could sense that something was wrong, and a feeling of unease was beginning to well up in his heart.

"Gu Yue, I..."

Gu Yuena raised a hand to cut off Tang Wulin. "Listen to me. If the vendetta between the humans and the soul beasts could be resolved so easily, then I wouldn't have to make such a painful decision. Indeed, I am the Silver Dragon King, the one who got away from the Divine Realm after the Dragon God was sliced in half by the Asura Sword. At the time, I was severely wounded, so I could only flee onto the Douluo Continent for self-preservation. At the time, the Great Star Dou Forest had only been a tiny forest, and your human race had only just begun to inhabit this world.

"Due to the restrictions of this plane, I had to release my divine power during my lengthy hibernation, and this power naturally fused into the Great Star Dou Forest, causing it to grow at a rapid rate, thus creating the largest forest of soul beasts on this continent. It could be said that all of the soul beasts of the Great Star Dou Forest were my people, but upon awakening from my hibernation, I discovered that my people had almost been hunted to extinction by your human race! That amounted to the loss of tens of millions of soul beast lives!

"They were all living beings and important components for maintaining the ecological balance of this world, yet in order to satisfy your selfish desires, your human race has slaughtered my people without restraint; even the Great Star Dou Forest has been reduced to a shadow of what it once was. Only a tiny number of soul beasts currently remain in this world, and there aren't even DNA samples left behind for many species of soul beasts, so I'm unable to resurrect them even in my Myriad Beast Plane.

"How many species of soul beasts have you humans destroyed? How can you expect us to let bygones be bygones just because you're promising us a future now? From the perspective of you humans, us soul beasts are nothing more than resources. Your soul technology has advanced rapidly, and you've even managed to artificially manufacture soul spirits. In that case, why has the human race continued to hunt soul beasts? All of the remaining soul beasts are domesticated by the Spirit Pagoda and completely at the Spirit Pagoda's mercy.

"It is the cruelty of the human race that has led to the near extinction of the soul beasts, and it is the greed of the human race that has caused such severe ecological imbalance in this world. Even the Divine Realm protects only you humans while renouncing us soul beasts. I must admit that your father is a brilliant godking, having the foresight to create a plot over a duration of 10,000 years to resolve the Douluo Continent's crisis. However, even his plan only serves to help you humans; did he ever consider us soul beasts?

"The current ecological imbalance in this world means that the Douluo Continent is destined to fall sooner or later. As soon as I became aware of all of this following my awakening, I immediately created a plan. Our power is nowhere near enough to oppose the human race, and I am no longer a god, so it's impossible for me to defeat the human race on my own. In order to exact revenge against you and destroy you, I had to first integrate myself into your world and understand you. Thus, Na'er came into existence; she provided a scope through which I gained my first look into the human world."

Gu Yuena paused here, and her eyes were filled with vengeful fury, as well as unspeakable pain.

"Never did I think that I would lose, not to you humans, but to human emotions. I never anticipated that I would develop human emotions upon adopting a human form, and that Na'er would fall in love with you. In the end, I fell on my own sword, agreeing to that bet with Na'er and falling in love with you myself. Even now, I still haven't completely fused with Na'er. As the god of the soul beasts, I should be avenging the soul beasts and striking down your human race, but I fell in love with a human."

Tears began to flow uncontrollably down her face as she spoke. "But as you should already be aware, there's no way our relationship can work out. From the moment I awakened, I was destined to oppose your human race, while you're the hero of the human race. We are the respective representatives of our brethren, so we are destined to be enemies!"

Gu Yuena raised her right hand as she spoke, and her Silver Dragon Spear appeared in her grasp amid a flash of dazzling silver light. She swept the spear horizontally through the air, unleashing a streak of silver light that was over 10,000 meters in length, slicing a massive trench into the blooming roses down below.

"It's over between us; from now on, we are sworn enemies!"
