Chapter 14
C14 – Hunter Is Here!
Lee Tian and the Great Green Snake lay atop the treetops, silently observing the hunters’ every move within the forest below.
Indeed, they spotted several male hunters equipped with bows, arrows, and knives, vigilantly scanning their surroundings. The hunters cautiously approached the area where Lee Tian and the Great Green Snake had recently clashed, scrutinizing the scene for any signs of game.
Lee Tian noted their attire: coarse hemp garments and unkempt, long hair—nothing like the modern fashion from his previous life. They bore a striking resemblance to the ancient characters from the historical dramas he had once watched.
Yet, these hunters were dark and lean, lacking the porcelain, tender complexions of the male stars on television.
Before long, the hunters began to converse, and astonishingly, Lee Tian found he could understand them. He was certain, though, that this language was entirely foreign to him in his past life—he had neither heard it nor studied it.
One of the hunters, armed with a spear and fork, circled the base of the tree before rejoining his group, expressing his uncertainty, “Odd, I was sure I heard something over here just moments ago!”
It was he who had led the hunters to this spot.
A brawny hunter, wielding a machete and tasked with clearing the path, chuckled at him, “Wang Donglin, it seems you’ve misjudged the situation!”
After his comment, the muscular hunter openly ridiculed Wang Donglin.
Refusing to be the butt of the joke, Wang Donglin slammed his spear into the ground, puffed out his scrawny chest, and retorted to the hefty hunter, “Bai Zonghao, mind your tongue! Without my keen eye, where would you have found all this game over the years? Have you forgotten last year when I told you about the dying tiger on Old Hill? If not for me, you wouldn’t have been able to marry by hunting that tiger.”
Bai Zonghao, the machete-bearer, bristled at the mention of the incident. Putting on an air of disdain, he cut him off, “You have the nerve to bring that up? After my wife and I dissected that tiger and took it to market, the buyer realized it was diseased and dropped the price to that of pork, leaving my wife so furious she banned me from her bed for a month! Had I known, I’d have been better off slaughtering a pig to win a bride, sparing myself the peril of the hunt!”
Upon hearing this, Wang Donglin bristled with irritation and blurted out, “You don’t appreciate what’s good for you!”
Unfazed, Bai Zonghao brandished his large machete, challenging with a shout, “Who are you referring to?”
This sparked a heated exchange between the two, as they hurled insults at each other with such intensity that it seemed a brawl was imminent. However, despite the lengthy quarrel, no punches were thrown in the end.
Rooted to the spot under the tree, Lee Tian and the Great Green Snake, perched on a branch above, found themselves without an opportunity to slip away.
Observing the peculiar behavior of the humans below, the Great Green Snake couldn’t resist making a snide comment: “Humans are quite the spectacle, always ready to argue but too timid to actually fight!”
Lee Tian caught the remark and shot the Great Green Snake a sharp, unfriendly look.
Feeling the sting of his piercing stare, the Great Green Snake recoiled in fear. Flicking its tongue, it addressed Lee Tian with a mix of admiration and trepidation, “Big brother, you’re incredible! You don’t squander time on petty squabbles. You face your enemies head-on in battle!”
The memory of being relentlessly pursued and attacked by Lee Tian, without a moment’s hesitation, was still fresh in its mind, sending shivers down its spine at the mere recollection.
It was the first time the Great Green Snake had ever come across an ant so ferocious.
With Lee Tian remaining silent, the snake felt too awkward to say more.
And so, they fell into a prolonged silence.
