Chapter 1: The Exchange of Souls
Chapter 1
Song JinXing felt a terrible headache, like the painful heaviness that follows a hangover.
He struggled to open his eyes. The crystal chandelier above cast a glaring brightness. The air conditioning breeze lightly brushed over his body, making him feel as if he wore no clothes.
No clothes?!
Song JinXing bolted up abruptly, heedless of the groggy feeling in his head. Glancing down, the first thing he saw was a proud, standing pair of breasts.
The unflappable young master Song experienced an unprecedented shock to his eyes. He almost stumbled off the bed. His whole body felt weak and his legs were soft. This didn’t seem like mere drunkenness, but more like being drugged.
Looking around, the room was decorated in the usual hotel style. Song JinXing leaned against the wall and walked rapidly to the full length mirror by the door.
The mirror reflected back a nude female body. Her snow-white skin glowed dazzlingly, with waist-length lightly curled black hair spilling over her chest. She had a slim waist and long legs, full bust and derriere, without an ounce of excess fat on her sensuous body. This was an extremely sexy figure, but right now that exquisite, beautiful face held an unbelievable look of shock.
Song JinXing raised his hand and fiercely pinched the face in the mirror. The pain and everything around him felt terribly real, reminding him this was no dream.
Before he could think about this situation that defied scientific principles, the sound of a commotion suddenly came from outside the door. Through the closed door, he could hear all kinds of voices, and the clicking sounds of cameras.
"Is this the room?"
"Yes, this is the room Director Zeng stayed in!"
"Is Zhong Ruanxing really inside?"
"I saw her go in with my own eyes!"
"If we get shots of Zhong Ruanxing inside, it'll confirm those rumors about her sleeping around to get roles!"
"Where's the key card? Hurry!"
Though still confused, Song JinXing knew the situation was bad. Making use of the time they spent looking for the card, he quickly went to the closet and took out a bathrobe. Wrapping it around himself, he grabbed the pile of women's clothing on the sofa and darted onto the balcony.
The night had fallen. Below were the flashing neon lights of the city, and the garden layout looked familiar.
This was the Huayun Hot Springs Hotel, owned by the Song family.
The hotel emphasized luxury, so the rooms were all separate bungalows. The balconies of two adjacent rooms were less than 6 feet apart. After two beeps, the door to his room burst open, and four or five people carrying cameras rushed in. Song JinXing decisively picked up the bathrobe, vaulted over the balcony railing, and leapt across to the balcony of the next room in one smooth motion.
Perhaps due to being drugged, this body was exceptionally frail. That he could jump such a distance was already Song JinXing's limit. Landing heavily, he couldn't keep his balance and fell hard on the ground. His knees and elbows were scraped and blood seeped out in delicate threads, the pain reminding him again that this was all real.
The footsteps next door hurried over, someone rushed out yelling, "Where is she? How could she disappear?!"
Song JinXing calmly lay motionless on the ground.
Frustrated, the person looked around before leaving. His former room made some noise for a while, then quieted down again. Song JinXing slowly sat up, not rushing to move just yet. Leaning against the balcony railing, he contemplated the situation before him.
From the conversation between those people earlier, he gathered that the owner of this body was called Zhong Ruanxing, likely a celebrity. So was this a case of him becoming Zhong Ruanxing, or switching bodies with someone named Zhong Ruanxing?
If it was the second case, then who was in his body right now? Would it be Zhong Ruanxing's soul?
He had to meet her.
If time was flowing at the same rate, then his own body should currently be at...the Song family manor.
Song JinXing felt a bit of a headache coming on.
Today was the monthly dinner gathering of the Song family's younger generation with the elders. Over a dozen people from the Song clan would be together. He was raised overseas since childhood and wasn't close to them. Things weren't great between them since he returned either. Old Master Song was already displeased with him recently for rejecting the arranged marriage. If something else happened now, it could lead to serious complications.
The adjacent room was currently unoccupied, but he didn't know if a guest might show up suddenly. Song JinXing lingered no longer. Under the lights coming in from outside, he tidyed up the pile of women's clothing he had hastily grabbed earlier.
A turned off cellphone, a red strapless dress, a pair of high heels, a...lace underwear, and a bra that looked different from what he was used to seeing.
How could it not fall off without shoulder straps?
Song JinXing stared solemnly at the sexy lace lingerie for a good while. Finally, resigned, he closed his eyes briefly before awkwardly stripping off the bathrobe to put on the underwear, taking care not to accidentally touch the "peaks" on his chest.
In the middle of dressing, noise came again from the room he woke up in. Song JinXing shrank back against the wall and listened to a man's angry voice: "Where did she go? Didn't I tell you not to mess up?!"
Two people headed towards the balcony. A flicking sound, someone lighting a cigarette.
A young woman's voice anxiously replied: "I saw with my own eyes her being thrown onto the bed! I personally stripped her clothes off. I...I don't know what happened either. Could the drugs be too weak and she escaped?"
"Impossible! I got that stuff specially imported from overseas...Damn unlucky. No photos, and offended Director Zeng too."
"Then this role in the movie..."
"We'll talk when we get back! Call Zhong Ruanxing tomorrow morning and probe her attitude. She probably won't suspect you."
Their voices moved away. Song JinXing slowly zipped up the dress, making note of that younger woman's voice.
After changing, the final step was to put on shoes.
High heels...
Never going to happen in this lifetime!
Song JinXing resolutely picked up the high heels, stood up barefoot, and carefully cleaned up any traces left on the balcony. He threw the bathrobe he came in into the room's laundry bin, making sure no evidence was left before heading to the door.
Worried the paparazzi might be staking out downstairs, he avoided the elevators and took the stairs down the employee passage.
As part of the Song family's properties, he had taken over management of the hotel after returning home, so naturally knew it like the back of his hand. The employee passage doors had a password that staff normally used their cards to enter. Song JinXing inputted the password to open the door, passed through the corridor, and entered a utility closet before finally turning on the phone.
The screen lit up with a wallpaper photo of a family of four in front of Tiananmen Square.
Zhong Ruanxing wore a pink turtleneck sweater, her big wavy hair tied up. Without the glamor of a celebrity, she looked like a sweet, lively college student as she embraced her parents and a toddler girl, smiling brightly.
Song JinXing dialed his own number.
After a few rings, the call connected. A familiar voice came from the receiver.
"Hello...what the! Fxxk!"
Beep beep beep.
The call hung up.
Song JinXing pressed a hand to his temple, headache worsening.
