Chapter 46 Leave the Rough Work to Us! Your Hands Are Meant For Making Delicious Food, Don’t Hurt Them!
As Lu Qin packed up his stall for the day, several customers came over to help.
“Boss Lu, let me take care of it. How can we let you handle something as trivial as packing up the stall?”
“Exactly, Boss Lu. This is hard work, and your hands are precious. What if you can’t make noodles because of an injury?”
“Boss, where will you set up the stall this afternoon? Will you have twice-cooked pork and chicken tofu? I’m already craving it!”
“Boss Lu, I’m spending my whole salary at your food stall each month—you have to take care of me!”
In reality, cleaning up didn’t take long, and Lu Qin didn’t really need their help, but the customers insisted on pitching in. The last few patrons who had just finished their fried noodles and Ice Crystal cakes set their food down and started helping Lu Qin tidy up the stall. They even wiped down the stove.
Lu Qin couldn’t help but smile wryly at how adorable his customers were. Watching this scene, Chen Dahai nodded to himself. People often say, “the customer is king,” but with Lu Qin, it seemed the reverse was true.
“Boss Lu, ride safely and take care on the road.”
“Will we see your daughter this afternoon? I miss her!”
Lu Qin got on his tricycle, waved to them with a smile, and said, “Goodbye, eat the noodles while they’re hot. They won’t taste as good cold. My daughter is still at kindergarten this afternoon, but I’ll bring her with me tonight.”
“Oh, what a shame! I’ll be working late tonight. See you!” One customer lamented.
Just as Lu Qin was about to start pedaling, Chen Dahai stepped in front of him.
“Young Boss Lu, where are you setting up the stall this afternoon? I want to try your twice-cooked pork and chicken tofu!”
Chen Dahai wasn’t just interested in Lu Qin’s food—he also wanted to observe the man a bit more.
“Join the QQ group, I will announce the stall’s location there.”
“I’m an old man, I don’t know much about QQ. Could I just get your phone number instead?”
Chen Dahai had already done some research on Lu Qin and had his phone number saved in his contacts, but he wasn’t sure how to approach him with it. For now, his only identity was that of a customer.
“Sorry, it’s not really convenient. But give me your phone, and I’ll help you join the group—it’s easy.”
Chen Dahai handed over his phone after unlocking it, and Lu Qin added him to the group.
“All done. Keep an eye on the group this afternoon. I’ll post the stall location there.”
“Alright, thanks, Young Boss Lu.”
“You’re welcome.”
Chen Dahai watched Lu Qin ride off and then checked the QQ group. There were already 523 members, and the chat was buzzing non-stop.
[Lu Boss’ Leg Accessory: I successfully got fried noodles and Ice Crystal cake today, woohoo!] [Mrs. Lu: How are there over 500 people in this group now? It was just over 300 a few days ago. More competition means longer queues!] [Lu Boss’ Foodie Follower: Boss Lu’s food is so delicious it’s hard to describe. It’s just too popular! Getting a box of noodles feels like a pilgrimage!] [Wanshun Aluminum Doors and Windows: I’ve been eating three servings of fried rice noodles every day for four or five days, and I’m still craving more! Young Boss Lu’s skills are incredible!] [I’ll Die Without Fried Noodles: Holy crap! They’re serving chicken tofu this afternoon! And I still haven’t even tried the twice-cooked pork!] [Jiangcheng Peng Yuyan】: Hehehe, I’ve had twice-cooked pork now! It’s so good I almost drowned in my own drool!] [Insane Fried Noodle Eater: I’ve gained three pounds in the past few days. I give up!] [Lu Boss’ Fiancée: Three pounds? I’ve gained five!!]Chen Dahai scrolled through the messages, realizing that everyone in the group was a foodie, and it seemed he had become one too. Meeting a chef like Lu Qin was truly a blessing for food lovers.
Lu Qin sped down the road on his tricycle. With his full-level tricycle driving skills, courtesy of his system’s lottery, his efficiency was maxed out.
What used to take him 20 minutes now only took 12 or 13. Of course, he only drove this aggressively when he was alone—if his daughter or fragile ingredients were on board, he prioritized safety.
He parked the tricycle in front of ‘Jingyuan Vegetable Market’. Although the market was small, it had a wide variety of fresh produce, saving Lu Qin the hassle of running around to different places.
“Hey! Young Boss Lu, you’re here!”
It was Boss Zhao, who sold disposable tableware. He was unloading goods at the entrance of the market and, upon seeing Lu Qin, immediately walked over with a smile, pulling a cigarette from his pocket.
“I don’t smoke,” Lu Qin politely declined.
“Ah, I always forget!” Boss Zhao shrugged and lit the cigarette himself.
“I’m heading to Haishi next door for supplies today, so I won’t be able to deliver your tableware and ingredients. I’m afraid you’ll have to come pick them up yourself, Young Boss Lu.”
“You shouldn’t always go through the trouble, Boss Zhao. It’s only right that I come and buy them myself.”
“Don’t be so formal! Every time I deliver, you give me fried noodles and Ice Crystal cakes—I’m the one getting a great deal! I’ve been to your food stall twice, and I couldn’t even get in line. Your business is out of control!”
After exchanging a few more pleasantries, Boss Zhao turned and shouted into his store, “Hey, kid! Bring out the goods and help load them onto Young Boss Lu’s tricycle!”
“Got it!” replied a boy wearing black-framed glasses, walking out with a large box of tableware. Lu Qin recognized him—it was Boss Zhao’s son, a middle schooler who would come to the shop for lunch and help out whenever he could.
“Take it easy,” Lu Qin said, rushing to steady the box, which looked like it might slip.
Boss Zhao waved his hand dismissively. “Don’t worry, Young Boss Lu, these tableware boxes aren’t that heavy!”
Despite his slim frame, Zhao’s son was surprisingly strong and quickly loaded the boxes onto Lu Qin’s tricycle food cart.
“Hi, Brother Lu~!” the boy greeted with admiration shining in his eyes behind his glasses.
“Call him Uncle Lu, not Brother Lu,” Boss Zhao corrected with a light smack to the back of the boy’s head.
Lu Qin smiled and pulled out two boxes of Ice Crystal cakes from the bottom of his foam container.
“These two boxes didn’t sell out—take them and enjoy.”
Zhao’s son immediately brightened up, practically dancing with joy.
“Brother Lu! I love you! I’ve been craving these cakes for so long!”
“You just had them two days ago, you little foodie!”
Boss Zhao shook his head.
“Mom! Brother Lu gave me two boxes of Ice Crystal cakes!”
The boy ran excitedly into the shop, clutching the treats. Soon, an excited voice came from inside, belonging to Zhao’s wife.
Boss Zhao immediately called out, “Wife, son! Don’t finish them all! Save some for me!”
“Young Boss Lu, let me transfer you the money. I can’t keep eating your food for free, especially when I’m still making money on the tableware!”
“No need. You always throw in extra tableware and deliver my ingredients!”
After a brief, polite back-and-forth, Lu Qin refused the payment, and Boss Zhao didn’t press further. He had always prided himself on being a good judge of character, and from the first time he interacted with Lu Qin, he knew he was a decent guy. Time had proven him right.
Most importantly, Lu Qin’s cooking skills were top-notch, and his food stall was always packed with customers. Boss Zhao had even seen Lu Qin trending on Douyin (the Chinese version of TikTok).
It was thanks to his connection with Lu Qin that he could occasionally enjoy those legendary fried noodles and Ice Crystal cakes. Considering how hard it was to get those dishes, he felt like the lucky one.
Lu Qin then entered the market to purchase ingredients for twice-cooked pork and chicken tofu.
