Divine Mastering Dragon System

Chapter 39

C39 – Freshmen!

“Truthfully, you don’t have the qualifications to study at the academy. Your uncle has spent a considerable sum of money on your behalf.”

“You’re not getting any younger, and since you haven’t awakened your spiritual sense yet, the path ahead may be even tougher.”

“You should dedicate yourself to your studies. Even if you don’t become a mage, acquiring some knowledge of magic spells could be useful, perhaps for work in an alchemy shop. Make sure you don’t disappoint your uncle’s hard work.”

The enrollment process was simpler than Choo Qin had anticipated, without any need for identity verification. The teacher with the buzz cut handed Choo Qin a form to sign, and with a few strokes of the pen, his admission was official.

As he was leaving, the teacher noticed Choo Qin’s nonchalant demeanor and felt compelled to offer some parting advice. Choo Qin responded with a smile, expressing his thanks, though he remained sparing with his words. He had previously assumed that all mages were cold and distant, but his opinion of the teacher improved slightly.

By the afternoon, when Choo Qin encountered the teacher again, he had donned a set of black garments and, perhaps self-conscious about his distinctive haircut, had added a cloak to his ensemble. The cloak, a staple of mage attire, added an air of mystery, especially in front of the civilian students. The class wasn’t held in a conventional classroom but on an open-air platform resembling a sports field.

The Beginner Class consisted of four subjects: history, physical fitness, runes, and basic magic spells. That afternoon featured Zhu Mo’s physical fitness class, and it was then that Choo Qin learned that the teacher’s full name was Zhu Mo, who also played a role akin to a homeroom teacher.

The scarcity of mages was more pronounced than Choo Qin had imagined. He belonged to the third class, with around thirty students, and the entire academy’s Beginner Class comprised only seven or eight groups. These individuals represented the most promising mage candidates from all of Long Song City, hailing from wealthy families who could barely cover the expenses of daily training.

Ultimately, only about ten percent of these students would advance to become Mage Apprentices. Considering the vast population of Long Song City, the total number of mages among the several hundred thousand residents barely exceeded a thousand.

“My name is Choo Qin, and I hail from Thundery Castle.”

With a straightforward self-introduction, Choo Qin caught the attention of the curious youngsters around him.

People tend to form their own social circles, usually with peers of a similar age. The sudden appearance of the unfamiliar Choo Qin sparked whispers and speculation about his background.

”Okay, Choo Qin, there aren’t many spots left, so you’ll join Mi Xueyin’s group. Choo Qin, your basics could use some work, so I’m counting on you all to help him out,” Zhu Mo directed his words to a girl seated in the front row. Choo Qin followed his gaze to a girl dressed in a simple white outfit, her delicate features exuding a pleasant aura.

A murmur ran through the crowd, with a hint of envy visible in some of the boys’ eyes. They hadn’t expected the newcomer to have such good fortune as to be grouped with the Civilian Princess.

Choo Qin, however, was unfazed. He had seen plenty of beautiful girls before, especially the stunning elves in Dragon Void. The so-called Civilian Princess didn’t stir any interest in him.

Once he found his team and took his place, he took a moment to survey his surroundings, only then realizing that he was the only boy among four girls. A touch of embarrassment crossed his face.

“Since we have a newcomer today, let’s proceed with the customary physical test,” Zhu Mo announced.

“The stronger your physique, the greater your chances of sensing magical power during meditation. There are even legends of those who have mastered the art of cultivating physical strength. So, never let your guard down.”

As Zhu Mo spoke, he gestured with his hands, retrieving several peculiar devices from a box and giving Choo Qin a couple of probing glances, eager to gauge the new recruit’s potential.
