Chapter 85

85 Chapter 85: Different from the Briggs

The next day, Tracy arrived and met Ale in a strange condition. The grand villa of the Briggs was located in a desolate area of the state, meaning it was the perfect ground for hunting mutant beasts. Alex was tempted to hunt and acquire a full set of beast gears but e felt disturbed as well. His strength is not yet sufficient enough for him to deal with many wolf-tier mutant beasts. In reality, his demon bat daggers only guarantee he will be able to harm any beast he sees out there but outside that, he can still be killed by a mutant beast.

“Why are mere animals far scarier than humans? I fought against a B rated deviant and I didn’t blink! Yet wolf threat level mutant beasts are making me so uncomfortable” Alex complained as he played with Tracy’s hair.

He was dressed in a plain black shirt and shorts, while Tracy wore a silver shirt and shorts. One sword stood in a corner observing in silence. The Ale Briggs he heard of is cold and amazing. His talent is said to rival if not surpass that of Wilder Briggs yet the man he was looking at right now is far different from the description given.

This Alex Briggs looked carefully, calm, loving, and above all he had a great sense of humor. The Briggs are said to be maniacs when training is involved yet since Alex came here he hasn’t made an attempt to practice.

<> One sword couldn’t help but mutter in his mind.

“Sword... Do you have a list of mutant beasts in this area?” Alex’s question suddenly startled him.

Alex was still playing with Tracy’s silver hair when e asked the question, making it look strange.

“Not really... It has never been necessary” One sword responded with a slight now but Alex didn’t even turn to look at him.

His eyes remained cold as he gazed at the television ahead. Amongst the Briggs, he is the only one who has been forced to appear to the outside world this young. By the time they reveal themselves to the world they are already strong enough to battle tier level mutant beasts, so these wolf level mutant beasts are more like pets to them. They are like harmless animals to the Briggs so bothered compiling a list.

.....

Florida as a whole is one of the territories of the Briggs. But low-level mutant beasts also mean fewer resources, no one is willing to pay much attention to a location like this.

“If you wish I can have that done immediately!” One sword said hastily when Alex failed to respond but still maintained the cold look on his face.

Hearing this Alex frowned and shook his head.

“I am the only Briggs present and my power is insufficient... Sending people without someone powerful guiding them is risky! They can end up dead... Forget it” Alex said thoughtfully.

There was another long silence between the three in the living room. It lasted for over five minutes before Tracy finally broke the silence

” What do you have in mind” Tracy asked while placing her palm on Alex’s cheek.

Hearing this question, One sword was delighted. He too wanted to ask this question but he felt he wasn’t in the position to ask such questions from someone like Alex.

“I am strong, I know that but I’m lacking something... My foot works are flawed.. when I went against Silver I almost lost because I lacked the right footwork technique to back up my foresight... I couldn’t dodge any of his blades” Alex said with a slight frown.

“If I go again a top tier enemy amongst the Tyrant gang, I intend to win this time... While my power may be sufficient my mobility is lacking and even techniques are behind... It is difficult for me to progress from here” Alex said calmly, leaving One sword stunned.

To One sword, Alex pretty much admitted his growth as a warrior has reached Its rocky paths making it hard to improve. His cultivation has reached a serious bottleneck.

“So how do you plan to deal with it?” Tracy blinked while gazing at Alex.

In this world, there are numerous means of getting stronger. While you can wait for your body to grow with time, you can also choose to feed on the bodies of mutants. It is said these cannibals end up getting stronger for real but at the cost of their sanity. Apparently, the body of a mutate beast or deviant has enough nutrients to strengthen a person.

Meanwhile, another method is through the use of geno fluids. These are expensive drugs meant to mend the genes and forcefully upgrade them bit by bit. For this to work a person has to keep taking a prescribed number of geno fluids per day unless they wish to suffer the adverse effects.

Does it work?

Yes! But this method Is quite expensive and carries terrifying side effects. In the end, they are no different from the cannibals. These two methods are of the table leaving him with the normal method. Alex would have loved to master more secret techniques but the more secret techniques you know the more difficult it is to practice the others. Right now he wants to be sure every secret technique he learns is worth the effort! The must be gold rank at least!

“I don’t know... I don’t know how long it will take before I become eligible to learn the third and final stage of the demon kin technique. From his progress speed, Alex guessed it would take about ten years before his body benefit substantially from all of this.

“I don’t know yet... But you don’t have to worry... I will find my way around it” Alex said calmly leaving One sword stunned.

Did a Briggs actually admit weakness?

Alex couldn’t tell what was going through One Sword’s head he honestly didn’t care. Right now he didn’t know whether to hunt mutant beasts or continue his main task.

At this point, he remembered something! The matter absorption ability, absorbing the powers of the beast cores.

Although the effect was almost negligent back then it was something. Alex was curious as to what will happen if he absorbs enough.

“We go hunting for beast gears tomorrow” Alex said decisively.

“I’m coming!” Tracy said immediately.

Alex wanted to refuse but One sword spoke up.

“Don’t worry young master! I will be there to look after her” He said calmly.

While Alex believed he just planned to protect Tracy, he didn’t know One sword simply want to observe him. He wanted to know how strong Alex is.

With One sword agreeing to take care of Tracy, Alex had no reason to reject her offer.

___________________________________

The next day the group left the grand villa and left for the lush forest surrounding the entire area. The forest was so thick, that using a vehicle here would be a waste of time so they chose to walk. Meanwhile, Alex couldn’t help but feel curious.

The mutant beasts can gather and attack the grand villa so why haven’t they done it?

He has heard of a certain plant that wards off mutant beasts but the vegetation around the entire villa was not just one but plenty so he couldn’t tell what it was. He also thought of the possibility that the plant will be removed and they will get attacked.

The three walked in silence for over twenty minutes before they came across something. It was like a monkey beast with six hands, six eyes, and two tails. Its brown fur was so thick one would assume it was an armor plate. This mutant monkey was as big as a full grown man, slightly up to 5.10ft tall.

It was currently feeding off the corpse of another of its kind. Its mouth was stained with blood but the moment it saw them it let out a furious cry and pounced forward.

“Why are they always loud?” Alex said coldly as his hands touched the blade of his weapon, turning his skin black as he walked forward. He began running the demon-kin technique while he approached and in just a few steps the massive monkey has already reached him!

Shriek!!!!

Bang!

Tracy and One sword watched in excitement as the massive monkey reached Alex and swung its claws at him but Alex didn’t look fluttered or anything, he simply caught the hand to end the attack!

“I guess it’s my turn! Take my fist!” Alex said coldly as he threw a punch forward, striking the beast on the chest and even though the beast wanted to stagger back it couldn’t because of Alex’s tight grip on its arm.

“Don’t even dream about leaving so soon!” Alex said before throwing barrages of punches, each either stronger or weaker than the previous. The spider monkey just screamed in pain while struggling. By absorbing the materials of his pseudo tiger level blade, Alex’s defense made it impossible for the monkey to harm him, giving him the rare opportunity to practice.
