Chapter 50

50 Chapter 50: Sly Alex

As much as he would love to fight the monster now it was weak, Alex was not dumb enough to rush into an unnecessary battle that may lead to his death. The uncompleted building already had two floors, separate from the ground floor. It looked too old and unstable, threatening to collapse at any time and that alone is enough reason for Alex to retreat. Should a fight take place there, he will be forced to fight while standing on loose grounds against a foe that can fly!

“We have an opportunity now... If we don’t take it, we may never get the chance again!” The hunter said coldly but Alex wasn’t intimidated.

“You may survive if you fall but I will die if I do... I do not have the ability to heal, neither do I have the fitness to match the beast in strength or speed...” Alex said with a slight frown but his voice remained as calm as ever.

“Then I will take the lead and you support... If things go south, you can retreat without a second thought... I won’t hold it against you” the hunter said helplessly.

Alex nodded in agreement with a calm look on his face but deep down a cruel smile bloomed on his face. When he was little he learned two things from his grandfather regarding how to deal with a foe at your level or possibly stronger. To do this you have two options.

The first is to hide your true abilities from the foe and wait for the perfect time to strike. Using the enemy’s lack of information to your advantage but this technique will not work this time. The hunter has already seen all of his abilities and knew what to expect, leaving him with no choice but to follow the second option.

The second option requires him to belittle his capabilities in front of the enemy, making him lower his guard. When the enemy truly believes he is far more capable than him, it’s only normal he loosens up, giving Alex the opportunity to strike.

In fact, if anyone heard Alex’s plan they would consider him an evil bastard with no shame but Alex didn’t care. In his opinion, he is doing what’s best for humanity and himself. Letting the bat mutant beast evolve will only make this area more dangerous for people living in this area. That is why he will do everything in his power to kill the mutant beast.

But!

.....

Alex is not some sort of righteous man who will risk his life and except nothing in return. Alex believed his prosperity gives the human race a higher chance of survival. In his opinion, he is a more worthy candidate to wield the mutant beast gear as his weapon. If it means putting down the hunter, he will do it a thousand times over.

The duo walked up the shaky stairs of the uncompleted building. They carefully searched each floor even though there was a blood trail just to be sure that nothing unexpected happens. During this time, Alex remained by the hunter’s side at all times. Using the demon-kin first form; flow, he made sure his body is in optimal condition, just in case a surprise attack is launched at him.

Thud!

Thud!

Thud!

The duo kept climbing unto they reached the floor. It was an incredibly spacious room with many dangerous types of equipment lying around. Alex first noticed the massive glass walls and then a large number of termite-infested planks placed at the edge of the room. A generator could be found as well with cement mixers and some rusted iron rods.

Facing all of this, Alex didn’t seem particularly disturbed. His eyes remained sharp as he noticed the blood trail ended just right in front of him. His eyes turned cold as he ran the secret technique to optimize his body capabilities.

The hunter kept walking forward unaware of this. He was too busy checking out the room to notice the blood trail had ended or to notice Alex had stopped moving.

<> Alex screamed in his mind as he slowly looked above him.

There the massive bat stood with its legs dug deep into the ceiling and its wings wrapped around its body to prevent the blood from dripping anymore. Its murderous red eyes were pinned on Alex but Alex didn’t flinch.

He stared coldly into the eyes of the enemy and with a clenched fist, the two had a moment of peace and silence before lunging at each other!

Swoosh!

Blood red claws swiped at Alex fiercely from above but a smile bloomed on Alex’s face as he sidestepped.

Puff!

Blood gushed out of the claw-shaped injury on his shoulder, forcing him to fall on his butt, screaming loudly and getting the attention of the hunter. The claw wound was deep but not too deep. Just enough to let an unhealthy amount of blood pour out.

“You!” The hunter screamed with squinted eyebrows as he grabbed his spear and jumped towards the enemy. His hand moved so swiftly to release a flurry of attacks but surprisingly the bat mutant beast did not retreat.

Peng!

Peng!

Peng!

Gazing at the hunter coldly, the beast released a flurry of claw attacks of its own. The two engaged in a fierce battle and the once terrified Alex revealed a cruel smile. There is a reason why he and Silver became good friends when they met. Not only were they extremely talented but they were both extremely cunning as well. While Silver pranks everyone around him and tries to manipulate them, Alex is reserved and utilizes this whenever he feels it is necessary

The only difference between him and Silver is that, while people expect the worst from Silver since he already has a bad reputation, people around him tend to let their guards down because no one expects someone as cold and calm as him to have this crazy side.

Now he has given both sides a reason not to pay attention to him, Alex only needs to wait now until he finds an opportunity to strike.
