Chapter 51

Chapter 51: The Monkeys’ End

Hearing the loud cracks of bones breaking and seeing the monkey’s body being thrown crashing into a tree before falling down onto the ground, Blake knew that the monkey was still alive despite having its body laying face down and its literal face being planted on the ground.

Blake believed that the crisp cracks he heard earlier were either the monkey’s chest, sternum, and ribs included, breaking, or it was the monkey’s backbone breaking.

And both would be fatal for a human, or even for Blake.

However, Blake remembered how the monkey that Robus had punched and had its chest bones broken was somehow still able to run, albeit not half as fast as the healthy ones.

Be it because of their strong physique or a demon’s physiology was just simply different from a creature’s physiology that Blake knew back on earth even though the two looked similar to each other.

‘There had been cases of animals mutating and becoming stronger since the gate appeared, I guess it only makes sense that the creatures here would also be stronger because they lived in an environment filled with nether.’ Blake thought to himself as his fingers were already moving again.

And just like Blake predicted, the monkey, who was lying still on the ground for a solid three seconds suddenly jerked its head up and soon spotted Blake in its vision.

.....

Noticing that the one that had chased after it for the past few minutes was now only a few feet away from its current position and realizing that there was no way for it to start running away again from such a close distance, the monkey decided to entirely ditch the idea of running away.

Instead, the monkey mustered all the strength that was left in its body and decided to turn all that power into jumping straight toward Blake instead of running away from him.

The position of the monkey’s body was quite awkward since its body was quite literally sprawled on the ground with one limb over the other, making it hard for the monkey to get a proper footing.

But it didn’t take much time for the monkey to correct its position and readied itself to launch its body forward and lunge towards Blake.

In just a blink of an eye, the monkey had already placed its four limbs properly on the ground into a lunging position, and it was only a jump away from reaching Blake’s face.

And the monkey would have really succeeded in its gamble in doing its last-ditch attack since the distance between the two was that close with each other and Blake would be much weaker in hand-to-hand combat, giving the monkey a good chance to retaliate.

However, in the end, the monkey wasn’t able to achieve it as Blake’s fingers that had been moving earlier had completely stopped moving since about a second ago.

The moment the runes flashed and disappeared, the monkey was only done getting into the lunging position, and the next moment the monkey was finished gathering its strength to pounce forward, the monkey’s body was suddenly halted in place.

The reason was that the monkey suddenly felt a stinging pain in the middle of its body.

And it wasn’t only in the middle of its body, for the next few seconds, the monkey felt the countless stings on its body.

In just a second, the monkey felt at least ten different spots in its body assaulted by stinging, stabbing pain, and it didn’t stop for quite some time.

The monkey felt the stabbing pain appearing in its stomach, its arms and legs, the front of its chest, the side of its chest, its neck, and also, its head.

And by the time the stabbing pain had stopped coming, the monkey had also stopped breathing. The tens of darkness tendrils stabbing directly into its skull and heart were more than enough to kill even the toughest creatures as now a dark orb had appeared on top of the monkey’s body.

Blake heaved a sigh as the dark orb was the signal that indicated that the fight was finally over.

Blake walked closer to the dark orb and grabbed it with his hand before opening his mouth and swallowing it directly into his stomach.

Blake then smacked his lips a couple of times, “It’s much better than the usual, but it was nowhere near as good as the one I wanted...” Then after thinking for a solid second, Blake muttered again, “But at least, if they tasted this good then they should give some more souls. And that’s a good thing.”

Blake was quite disappointed that he couldn’t taste a savory, high-leveled soul soon after his last taste of the crow, but remembering that his main goal was to level up as soon as possible, he was able to curb his disappointment and focus on the fact that the monkey soul had probably given more souls rather than just one or two.

Yes, Blake had found out about this fact. The fact that the souls that tasted better give him more souls. He could now guess how many souls he got from their taste alone.

A tasteless one was a definite one soul. A slight, minor taste that might be ignorable was either two or three souls, with the latter having a slight lingering taste. While the souls that were worth five or more souls were still hard for Blake to differentiate since he rarely got to eat them, and they all tasted delicious for him, but the intensity of the flavor was different so he was kind of able to slightly guess which one was worth more.

And the monkey’s souls that he had just tasted were noticeably better than the souls that were worth two or three, but not as good as the souls that were worth at least five, so he guessed that it should be worth 4 souls.

And just to make sure, he called the status tab and checked.
