Chapter 15
Chapter 15: Baiting Wolves
After Blake arrived back at the location where he left the two boar carcasses on the ground, Blake quickly got to work as he had created a plan in his head that enabled him to gather the 6 remaining souls that he needed to level up within the 2-hour time-frame before he had to get back for dinner.
He could be 10 to 30 minutes late, but if he was gone for more than that, he was afraid that he would make Vera search for him in the forest which would greatly waste her time even though she was currently working on creating another spell.
With his plan, it should take him about an hour if he was lucky, two hours or more if he was very unlucky, and only 30 minutes if he was very fortunate.
Using the demonic claws on the tips of his fingers to cut open the boar’s bodies, Blake cut chunks of the boars’ meat and purposely drenched them in the boar’s blood before he took them away and started smearing the blood everywhere on his surroundings.
On the trees and plants, on the small and huge rocks on the ground, and of course, the ground itself before throwing the chunks of meat after the blood had dried up.
He repeated the process a couple of more times, making sure that the boar’s blood and meat were scattered in all directions before he climbed on top of another tree branch and patiently waited for his bait to work.
“AWOO!”
.....
It turns out that Blake’s luck was on the high side as he finally heard the sound that he had been waiting for after only about 45 minutes of waiting. In those 45 minutes, Blake had spent his time wisely by thinking of possible new spells while also recuperating his nether by using the method that Vera had taught him, which was unsurprisingly by doing a breathing exercise.
The nether in his body could replenish on its own by resting and sleeping, but doing the breathing exercise helped a lot, and it was only second to sleeping in terms of the mana recovery speed, so it was the best thing that Blake could do while he waited.
But now that the main guests that he had been waiting for had arrived, there’s no need for him to wait any longer.
Blake stood up from the thick tree branch that he was sitting on and began to squint his eyes as he tried to locate the wolves that should be getting inside his field of view anytime soon.
‘There you guys are.’ he thought to himself as he saw the six demonic wolves running straight towards his area from his left side.
Blake then quickly drew his original spell, the marking rune with each hand, and when the wolves were inside his comfortable range and he was confident that he could hit the wolves’ bodies properly, Blake didn’t waste a single second as he threw the two balls of darkness towards two wolves.
But just like when he fought the boars, he didn’t stop right there as he drew two other marking runes and threw them at two other wolves. And with him ambushing the wolves and the speed of the marking spells, the four darkness balls hit their target and now four balls of darkness could be seen attaching themselves to the wolves’ bodies.
Blake wanted to hit the last two wolves that were still unmarked, but the wolves who had already noticed they were under attack, of course, wouldn’t let him do it as one of them used their strong physique and sharp claws to go against gravity and climbed the tree that Blake was currently standing on.
Seeing the speed of the wolf that was climbing the tree, Blake couldn’t help but admire their strength and athleticness.
‘I doubt I could do that even with 5 more points in my physique stat.’ Blake thought as he jumped off the tree branch while simultaneously drawing another two marking runes with both of his hands before throwing them towards the two remaining unmarked wolves, hitting them squarely on their heads as they were caught off-guard by Blake’s unpredictable moves.
‘Well, it’s guaranteed that those two won’t survive the next spell.’ He smiled inwardly.
Now that the six wolves were already marked, the only thing that he needed to do was to draw the mass darkness tendril runes and six souls would already be in his grasp.
But the problem was that, one, he was still in mid-air and the runes were more complicated than the marking spell, and two, 5 wolves were waiting for him to descend further as they already opened their jaws and bend their hind legs, ready to pounce on him as long as he reached their jumping height.
Blake could see the wolf that chased him up the tree was slightly smirking at him as if it had successfully tricked Blake into its trap.
But other than a slight feeling of uneasiness, Blake didn’t feel even a tinge of fear in his heart. And the feeling of uneasiness didn’t come from the fact that five wolves were waiting under him, ready to eat his face, but because he had never done something like this before.
Intentionally seeking danger out of his own free will wasn’t something that he had ever done in his 14 years of life, yet now, he was purposely inviting a pack of demonic wolves the size of cows to chase after him. And the best part of all those for Blake was the fact that he didn’t feel fear, instead, he felt thrill and excitement bubbling up inside his heart when he was faced with the six wolves.
Using one of his hands to once again draw simple demonic runes, a darkness tendril shot out from his right hand towards another tree branch. After the darkness tendril attached itself to the tree branch, Blake quickly gave the command for it to pull himself up, resulting in him being completely free from the wolves’ trap.
Blake then returned a smirk towards the wolf that was still on top of the tree that he used to stand on, and he didn’t know whether the wolf saw his smirk or it was just generally pissed that its plan failed, the wolf glared at Blake with hateful eyes before it started growling loudly and climbed down the tree.
But the wolf’s intimidation didn’t mean shit to him as Blake still had the smirk plastered on his face and said loudly,
“You should have stayed up there.”
By the time he finished talking, so did his hands finished drawing the mass darkness tendril runes. And considering that there are two more enemies compared to his experiment earlier, Blake decided to pour in more nether into the mass darkness tendril runes so that even more tendrils would appear.
And just like that, hundreds, maybe half a thousand, maybe slightly less, or most likely more darkness tendrils appeared out of the ground as they all frantically moved around everywhere between the six wolves as they gunned towards the mark that Blake had left on the wolves body.
The fortunate wolves that had Blake’s mark near their hearts or their heads had died quickly, almost at an instant as the dark tendrils skewered their brain and their hearts, cutting them off from their sense of pain.
While the less fortunate ones that have Blake’s mark on their behind were forced to deal with the pain of getting their bodies getting stabbed at least almost a hundred times before they finally died either to the shock of the pain of being stabbed countless times, the tendrils punctured one of their vital organs, or blood loss because of the holes on their bodies.
But no matter how the six wolves had died, Blake couldn’t care less about them as he finally got the six souls that he needed to level up and finish his first quest.
