Demon King Ascension System

Chapter 145

145 The Second Prototype of The Rune Formation

Just like before, the duo roamed around the forest to find their next prey.

Well, it’s more like Robus staying quite close to Blake, not too close that he would expose Blake’s location with his huge body and loud steps, but close enough that he wasn’t separated too far from Blake that Blake wouldn’t be able to warn Robus if any humanoid demons were nearby their location.

And without a nighttime or a specific time when the humanoid demons would actively hunt since they all just go out of the base to hunt at their own different time, it wasn’t that hard for Robus and Blake to find their next prey.

The group of humanoid demons this time was just hunting a single rabbit demonic beast that was pathetically small that Blake couldn’t help but think that it was a major waste of time for the group of five humanoid demons to hunt a single rabbit that certainly couldn’t satiate their appetite.

Not even saying that the Rabbit seemed to have an agility that didn’t lose to the birds that Blake found on the island, dodging the humanoid demons’ attacks left and right and not leaving them behind as if taunting the group of humanoid demons to try harder to catch itself.

Nonetheless, Blake didn’t utter a single word of complaint and just followed them closely and waited for the perfect moment for himself to come in and join the fight.

And Blake had also told Robus to stand by at a leap distance as it would now be his turn to get some fighting done and collect some souls.

The wait for the perfect opportunity had turned out to be longer than Blake had expected as this certain group of humanoid demons was apparently a very bad matchup for the demonic rabbit as they couldn’t even graze the rabbit’s slight greenish fur.

Fortunately, the opportunity that Blake searched for eventually came on its own after the humanoid demons were already starting to get desperate to catch the rabbit that had played with them for the past 10 minutes.

.....

Not wanting to be played anymore by the small rabbit that was only as huge as their thighs, the humanoid demons began increasing their ferocity in throwing their attacks toward the rabbit as they began to throw their balance and composure away.

And that moment when they really did throw away their balance and went all out to attack the small rabbit was the moment that Blake had been waiting for.

After trying to attack the rabbit with their full strength, the humanoid demons needed time to regain their body balance, and that was the exact moment they all heard 4 thudding sounds around them.

And different from the first group that was seemingly more experienced in hunting and fighting, when the four unknown thudding sounds came to their ears, the humanoid demons reflexively looked at each other instead of locking onto the source of the sounds.

Even though the humanoid demons were late to see it, they finally saw four wooden cubes, the size of the rabbit that they were hunting a moment ago and now had fled far away after being hit by one of their ferocious attacks.

They didn’t know what the wooden cubes did, but the fact that all four of them glowed was enough to catch their attention.

Just a second after the glowing wooden cubes appeared, all four of them flashed before the spell contained inside them was manifested outside.

This time, when the rune formations manifested themselves, there was no trembling on the grounds nor did dark earth constructs began to rise up from the ground.

What rose up was none other than a darkness barrier that encased all the humanoid demons inside it and created a dome of darkness element barrier.

There were several trees in the way of the darkness dome that was about to form, but different from the dark earth constructs that just broke the trees apart and crash them to the ground, the darkness barrier just made those trees and their strong branches as part of the darkness dome, circling around them instead of hitting and forcefully tearing through them.

And just like before when Blake entered the dome before it closed off, Robus also did the same after hearing the signal that Blake gave him and entered the darkness element dome before the top of the dome closed off completely.

With the darkness barrier being half-transparent, the light of the sun didn’t get blocked out completely, and the humanoid demons inside along with Robus could still see each other.

And with the sudden appearance of a very huge demonic beast wearing an ominous dark earth armor all over its body, it didn’t even take the inexperienced humanoid demon hunters to understand that the demonic beast wasn’t trying to make friends with them.

They began raising their weapons, be it bone spears, axes, or their own body that had mutated with longer claws or thick bones on their feet, and began to launch attacks towards the humongous demonic beast that had appeared out of nowhere.

However, their attacks meant nothing to the dark earth armor that was even able to hold out against other demonic beasts the size almost as tall as the trees.

Their bone weapons, their long claws, and their feet were knocked off the dark earth armor without leaving even a single scratch mark on the dark earth armor’s body, enabling the huge demonic beast inside it to attack the humanoid demons without thinking about its defense at all.

And saying the exchange between Robus between the humanoid demons group as a fight would be considered as glorifying it as it was nothing more than just a slaughter.

Using his explosive movements, fast reflexes, and also the rich battle experience that he got to see the gaps in his enemies’ movements, Robus was able to easily throw in a ribcage-breaking punch, a skull-crushing hold, and a limb-tearing attack towards the 5 poor humanoid demons.

The humanoid demons that had thought of fighting the huge demonic beast before, or at least the one that had still its body unharmed by the humongous gorilla, had discarded all thoughts of trying to fight the demonic beast and tried to run away with all of its might.

It ran towards the half-transparent barrier with its full strength before finding out the hard way that the half-transparent barrier, albeit looked flimsy, was more than enough to keep it from being able to break it.

But remembering the fate of its other kin that stayed inside near the gorilla, the one remaining humanoid demon that still had its whole body intact began swinging its bone spear towards the darkness dome, causing the barrier to tremble slightly every time the spear hit the half-transparent darkness element barrier.

The barrier, which was intentionally designed by its creator to be strong and durable enough to hold out against five humanoid demons’ strength for quite a while, was definitely able to deal with a single humanoid demon, causing its effort to run away to be wasted away as its head was popped open by Robus’ crushing grip.

Then after the fight was over and all five humanoid demons had their souls floating above their bodies, Blake easily drew a simple set of runes, and the whole darkness barrier dissipated into the surroundings.

Leaving nothing behind but the bloodied and disfigured corpses of the five humanoid demons.

“Much better,” Blake muttered while nodding in satisfaction.
