Chapter 472
Chapter 472
“Huh? W-What’s going on?” Siegfried was perplexed after seeing Maranello falling asleep.
Gringore ignored him and continued singing. “Hum~ Hum~ Hum~ Hum hum~ Hummm~”
[Song of Cradle]
[A healing skill of the Phantom Singer.]
[The song calms down those that hear it.]
[This song will free the listener from all negative effects and mind control-type skills. The listener will feel calm as well.]
[Prolonged exposure to this song will make the listener fall asleep.]
[Type: Area of Effect Heal]
[Cooldown: N/A]
Gringore was using something else aside from the Song of Cradle.
[Focus Sound]
[Allows the Phantom Singer to focus his song on a specific target.]
[Type: Active Skill]
[Cooldown: N/A]
[Current Target Limit: 3]
He focused the Song of Cradle on Maranello to amplify its effects, making the song much more effective on Maranello than on the other party members.
Siegfried and the others felt calm after listening to the song, but Maranello started getting drowsy and was about to fall asleep from the song.
“Hum~ Hum~ Hum hum~ Hum hum hum~ Humm~” Gringore sang for two minutes.
“M-Moo... Moo...”
Maranello rubbed his eyes and soon let go of Leonid. Then, he grimaced and slapped himself to fight the drowsiness, but it was in vain.
“Huff... Huff... Huff...”
Maranello fell asleep from the Song of Cradle.
“Zzz... Zzz...!”
And he even started snoring...
However, that was not the end of the surprise; he changed slowly and grew smaller until he reverted to his human form. In other words, Maranello was Lamborghini once again.
Gringore finally stopped singing after confirming that Maranello had reverted to Lamborghini.
“Phew... I sang that song just in case it worked, and am I glad it did,” Gringore said with a sigh of relief.
“Oh?” Siegfried raised a brow seemingly impressed by the scribe. Then, he shrugged and thought, ‘Well, he does have a Hidden Class.’
Gringore possessed a Hidden Class, so it made perfect sense that he could do something like he did just now.
“Scribe Gringore.”
“Yes, Your Majesty?”
“Great work. We were backed up in the corner, but we survived thanks to you,” Siegfried said.
“You are being far too kind, Your Majesty,” Gringore replied with a bow. Then, he added, “I, Gringore, am glad to be of service to Your Majesty.”
“Hoho! You are indeed quite useful in many ways!”
“Pardon me, sire?”
“But I’m still going to deduct your pay.”
“...”
“Hohoho!”
Siegfried was merciless when it came to money.
Leonid stood up, dusted himself, and said, “Phew! What a fearsome creature! That thing is indeed worthy of forcing me to use my full strength.”
“I agree, that monster was quite terrifying.”
“Yeah, you are right. But what are we going to do now?”
“I have no idea... Will he die if we try to kill him now?” Siegfried asked while looking at Lamborghini, who was fast asleep.
“It would be great if he died...”
“He will probably turn into a monster again if he doesn’t die, right?”
“I believe that is highly likely.”
“That will make things very troublesome...”
The reason Siegfried could not carelessly lay his hands on Lamborghini was that he was an immortal being.
Did it make sense that Lamborghini did not encounter a single threat to his life during the hundreds of years he lived? Did nobody really try to assassinate him after the massive destruction he has caused?
It was highly likely—no, Siegfried was certain that numerous people had tried to assassinate Lamborghini while he was in human form. After all, his human form would be the time he was most susceptible.
However, the reason Lamborghini was still alive was irrefutable proof that he was immortal not only when he was the monster, Maranello, but also when he was a human.
“Let’s take him with us and try talking things out with him. I think he’s fast asleep right now, so let’s not do anything rash that might wake him up.”
“That sounds like a good idea.”
“Well, since there is no exit...” Siegfried muttered. Then, he smirked and said, “Shall we go scavenge?”
Others might take time for granted, but Siegfried was different. In his eyes, time was a commodity used to make money.
***
The scavenge that Siegfried had mentioned was none other than picking up the items littered across the labyrinth and hunting down Mutated Three-Legged Octopus.
Thus, Siegfried’s party wandered throughout the labyrinth and scavenged while taking Lamborghini with them.
Well, Metatron and Chaos did most—no, all of the scavenging. There was no reason for Siegfried to trouble himself with such manual labor when he had two useful slaves with him. He leisurely chatted with Leonid while learning numerous skills from him, and the most he did was point at things or berate his slaves from time to time.
“What? Shakiro hyung-nim has passed away?”
“Yes.”
“Those bastards!” Leonid exclaimed in fury after hearing what the Church of Osric had done. Then, he gnashed his teeth and swore, “I will destroy every single one of them the moment I step out of here!”
“Were you close with him?”
“Shakiro hyung-nim’s personality is worthy of respect. He was always kind and respectful to others.”
“I agree with you. Although I spent only a short time with him, only a few people left a lasting impression on me like he did.”
“It’s quite unfortunate to lose something like him... Sigh...” Leonid said with a sigh. Then, he asked, “What about Betelgeuse hyung-nim? Is he well? Don’t tell me like Shakiro hyung-nim he—”
Siegfried shook his head and replied, “No, Betelgeuse Elder-nim is still alive, and he has become a Grandmaster now.”
“W-What?!” Leonid exclaimed out of shock. Then, he stuttered and asked, “B-Betelgeuse hyung-nim is now a Grandmaster...? A-Are you sure?”
“Yes, I saw him, and he looked younger than before.”
“Oh my god! He’s now a Grandmaster?! Betelgeuse hyung-nim has stepped into that realm?!”
“Well, he did pay a hefty price for it, so he kind of deserves it...”
“A hefty price?”
“I suggest you do not pry further or else you could end up in serious trouble,” Siegfried said in a serious voice.
A chill would go down his spine whenever he thought of the pain and suffering Betelgeuse had to go through just to step into the realm of a Grandmaster. He hadn't experienced it personally, but the thought alone made him shudder.
“Hey, Siegfried, what is that hefty price he paid? Please teach me!”
“You will really end up in serious trouble...”
“I am mad enough to come in here just to become a Grandmaster! There is nothing I won’t do if it means I can—”
“Mmm...”
Chaos was carrying Lamborghini on his back the entire time, and the latter finally showed signs of waking up.
“...!”
Everyone in Siegfried’s party froze and became tense.
Maranello.
Each and every one of them knew just what would happen if that monster awakened and rampaged once again.
“Shh!” Siegfried hurriedly signaled for everyone to quiet down.
***
“Yaaawn...” Lamborghini let out a yawn and stretched. It had been a long time since he last slept so well.
“E-Excuse me, Mr. Lamborghini?” Siegfried carefully asked.
“...!”
Lamborghini flinched after seeing him.
“H-How? What happened...?”
“Do you feel better now?”
“H-How... are you alive?”
Lamborghini found this situation to be odd, and there was a good reason for it. The only thing that greeted him whenever he reverted back from being Maranello was the sight of utter destruction and carnage, and he would be overcome by grief and guilt after seeing the things he had done with his own two hands.
However, it was different this time around. There were neither bodies nor destruction around him, and the ones he was certain Maranello would have killed were alive and well, looking back at him.
“W-What happened? Why are you alive?” Lamborghini asked.
“You fell asleep, Mr. Lamborghini,” Siegfried replied as politely as possible.
“F-Fell asleep? That monster?”
“Yes.”
“How did that happen? That demon will never fall asleep unless he destroys everything around it...”
“We sang a lullaby, and it immediately fell asleep.”
“A lullaby...?”
“Yes.”
“That’s impossible—”
Siegfried interrupted him and said, “That being possible or impossible is for later. There is something I wish to ask first.”
“Please go ahead.”
“Is there a way out of here?”
“That is...” Lamborghini trailed the end of his words. Then, he replied, “I can close this place down and open an exit.”
“Oh! So there is a way out of here?”
“But I will not do that.”
“Eh?!”
“I swore never to unleash that monster, Maranello, unto the world ever again.”
“What fucking bullshit is that?! Then why did you make an exit in the first place?!” Siegfried raged at Lamborghini.
“That is... just my lingering hope... I would not have created an exit if I knew this was how things were going to be...”
“Lingering hope?”
“I initially thought while building this place that maybe—just maybe, I could train myself to control Maranello. By then, I could leave this place armed with my renewed discipline,” Lamborghini said. He bitterly smiled and continued, “But I realized that was just nonsense. I hadn't been able to Maranello at all even once during the hundreds of years I was trapped here.”
“Hmm...”
“I can’t leave this place—no, I will not leave this place. Do you know how it feels to be greeted by nothing but destruction and carnage every time you open your eyes? The bodies I’ve killed with my own two hands are—”
It was then.
“Argh!” Lamborghini gasped and writhed in agony while grasping his chest. Then, he looked at Siegfried and pleaded, “Argh... H-Hurry and run...! The monster... monster is coming... Grrr...! Aaaaah!”
It seemed that he was transforming into Maranello once again after his emotions got the better of him.
“Scribe Gringore! Hurry!
“Yes! Your Majesty!”
Gringore hurriedly sang the Song of Cradle.
“Hum~ Hum hum~ Hum hum hummm~ Hum hummm~ Hum~”
“Grrr...! Aaaaah! Aah... Haa... Haam... Yawn... Mmm...”
Lamborghini stopped transforming; he returned slowly to his human form.
“W-What happened just now?”
Siegfried smiled and replied, “I have told you a while ago. It is all under control once a lullaby is sung for you. See? Your transformation stopped just now too, right?”
“Oh my god... Was something like this even possible...?”
“Hmm...” Siegfried muttered and rubbed his chin. Then, he smirked and said, “Mr. Lamborghini?”
“Yes?”
“Why don’t you come with us?”
“Huh?”
“I will help you control Maranello if you come with me.”
A tempting proposal, one Lamborghini could never refuse, flowed out from Siegfried’s mouth.
***
Siegfried walked through the corridors of the Daedalus Underground Great Labyrinth while chatting with Lamborghini.
“Is this the place? Is this where the artifact I’m looking for is?”
Chae Hyung-Seok stood at a cave, which was the entrance to the Daedalus Underground Great Labyrinth.
The image of the demon residing within the Demon Artifact: Dark Scythe, Baroque, appeared and replied, “Yes, this is where the treasure you seek is. I can sense Avenger’s power coming from this cave.”
“Really?”
“Hurry and obtain Avenger!”
“Sure,” Chae Hyung-Seok smirked and entered the cave at the demon’s behest.
