Chapter 5: The First Invention

"Destiny. Fate. Dreams. These unstoppable ideas are held deep in the heart of man. As long as there are people who seek freedom in this life, these things shall not vanish from the Earth."

"I am not sure that can be said to be safe, Master Bruce. I think we should discuss further your experiments and take some expert opinions to see if they are safe or not before you continue." Alfred said worriedly as he looked at Bruce carefully picking up a hot smoking metal with a pair of tongs.

"Don't worry Alfred, it's completely safe. There is absolutely nothing that can go wrong here." Bruce smiled as he put down the metal carefully but as soon as he touched the metal piece with the machine he was assembling, thin lines of electricity suddenly exploded from in front of him. "Well, nothing besides that." He corrected himself.

Bruce was currently making a mini arc reactor similar to the one from MCU. He wanted to build a battle suit too but sadly he barely had the materials and tools necessary to make the arc reactor. He was extremely lucky that Alfred didn't know how dangerous palladium really was or that Wayne Industries for some reason didn't say no to sending palladium to his house without a permit or conducting any further inquiries on why he even needed the radioactive material.

He wanted to make the arc reactor with the 'badassium' element that the Starks invented but his intuitive intellect told him that trying to make that metal right now with his limited tools and resources was more than just a simple challenge.

In fact, at first, he doubted if he would even have been able to make a simple machine because although he possessed the knowledge, he didn't have the slightest skill in making stuff. But fortunately for him, his ability took care of that for him. Within just a few minutes of tinkering, he had innately understood almost all necessary physical skills to make complex inventions like carpentry, metallurgy, and every other talent that required years of practice and concentration. It was like, he was a natural-born talent in the department of scientific research.

"Eureka" Bruce exclaimed happily as he finished attaching the mini arc reactor to his first true masterpiece, his new 'Swiss army knife'.

"And may I ask what you might have made here, young master? Because it definitely doesn't look like a Swiss army knife, as you told me before. It looks much more... complex and also bigger." Alfred said as he looked at the strange device in Bruce's hands.

"Oh, but it is a Swiss army knife, Alfred, just millions of times more advanced. I call it the proto tool. Although I might call it the bat-tool as well." Bruce muttered the last part to himself wondering if he should continue with the bat theme like the original Bruce Wayne would have.

Bruce's new proto-tool was actually the combination of the proto-tool of the plumbers from the Ben 10 verse and the multi-tool from Star Wars. He made the mini arc reactor as the power source of this new tool of his. Although not nanotech, Bruce's new proto-tool was the apex of multipurpose microfolding technology.

This little multipurpose machine of his had almost every tool he might need in the next couple of years for his other inventions or any other needs he might have including self-defense.

It was equipped with an energy vibroblade, a hydro spanner, a mini energy blaster, a custom bow or crossbow firing energy arrows, an energy sword, spear, staff, a grappler, energy shackle, flashlight, taser, laser, a sight, scope, an energy shield, a vacuum cleaner, and even an extremely high grade analyzing tool. The best thing was that Bruce could program more modes and tools into it later. Also, the tool would only work for him and the people whose DNA and fingerprints he would upload into it, making it useless for any thieves to try stealing it.

The tool was a bit of an overkill but Bruce was proud of it. He had wanted to make it smaller like the sonic screwdriver from Doctor Who but sadly he didn't have access to the resources for that yet. So, he had settled for a multipurpose proto-tool, aka, bat-tool instead.

After that, Bruce spend the rest of his morning testing out the 'bat-tool' he had made for the entirety of his last week. He was extremely happy with it. He knew that with this tool alone, he could easily become a street-level superhero if he so wished.

*Boom* As Bruce shot the head of another mannequin with the blaster mode, Alfred looked at Bruce with helpless eyes as he said "This is proving to be more and more dangerous Master Bruce. Can't you make something simple like a potato clock or maybe a walking robot? I heard many people are doing that nowadays."

"Hmmm. You know what Alfred? You are right. I should make something like that next. An AI will be useful for assistance in my future endeavors." Bruce said as he began to think about what type of AI he should make.

Hearing this, Alfred began to feel like his job was in danger for some reason.

Anyways Master Bruce, when would you like to start school again? I think being near more kids your age should be good for you. Also, you can even show off your science knowledge as well as your archery and shooting talents there too. Alfred said as Bruce released an energy arrow from the bat-tool's bow mode.

"You are joking right Alfred? Come on, I just made a tool that even most of the brilliant minds on the planet would not be able to reverse engineer and you want me to go to school. I am pretty sure that I know more than most of the teachers in any school." Bruce smirked.

"I know but that doesn't mean you are above going to school. There are a lot of other things people go to school for besides knowledge, some of them being friends and happy memories." Alfred calmly spoke.

"Well, I need neither. I am perfectly happy staying here in the manor without friends, just inventing stuff." Bruce tried to argue.

"That is not up for discussion Master Bruce. You WILL resume school if you want to continue spending time here in the cave and do your science stuff." Alfred strictly said.

"... GOSH FINE," Bruce grumbled as he finally agreed with Alfred. He knew that Alfred was doing all this to actually benefit Bruce in the long run by trying to give him a happy childhood but the truth was that he didn't need one. What he needed was more knowledge, skills, and other useful tools and weapons he could use to survive later down the line.

"Good. I'll inform the school board that you will be starting school again next month. Also, the Gotham Library finally accepted your generous donation and decided to give the Wayne family exclusive reading rights to all books in the library. So you can go there any time to read any book you want from now on." Alfred said as he smiled at Bruce.

"Then, let's go there tomorrow. I would need some advanced programming and computer science books if I want to know the basics of programming before I start making my own AI." Bruce said as he continued testing the different modes on his bat-tool.

"Got it, young master. Now, can you please put down that huge glowing sword? I feel like I am going to have a heart attack every time you wield that thing." Alfred said as he felt a headache coming.
