Chapter 22: The mage and the adventurer [part 2]
Cristian raised the blade, aimed for the neck, and swung it down. Flames trailed its path, but the wolf released the soldier and leaped back.
Using his momentum, he made a vertical slash and a deep gash appeared on the wolf's chest. Awoo! It howled. Its pain alerted many of its kind and they rushed towards Cristian's position.
A ruthless glint flashed in the wolf's eyes and it lunged forward. Cristian parried but the force he used wasn't enough causing him to stumble.
Graa!
The beast did not miss the opportunity and pounced on him. Its weight made him fall, and he stopped the razor-sharp fangs from ripping his face apart with his great sword.
Salvia splattered on his face, causing Cristian to frown. His green brows knitted, and his eyes flashed with disgust and annoyance.
"GET OFF ME!" he barked, raised his legs, and hit the wolf's soft belly. The beast whimpered and Cristian channeled 82+5+35= 122 strength and pushed the weakened beast off him.
As he stood up, a growl quaked his ears. He spun and slashed. The flaming blade split the head of a wolf, planning to attack him from behind.

[you have reached level 10, and you have gained two free stats points…]
He couldn't celebrate yet as the first wolf had gained itself and lunged. Cristian ducked, gripped the hilt with both hands and raised it.
A deep gash ran from the wolf's chest, down its abdomen to its rear. Spluttering sounds rang as its bloodied internal organs spilled and drenched the wooden floor.
[you have killed a level 20 dire wolf. Agility+2]
"Put every free stats point to vitality," Cristian ordered and dashed forward. The tip of the sword trailed on the wooden floor and he arrived before a wounded soldier whose partners had perished. Their remains filled the scene, along with the retching smell.
The soldier held a rake and his sloppy moves were many levels below Cristian, who could hide it because of his abnormal stats.
"Hey!" he bellowed and the wolf's ears perked. It turned to him and growled. Two other wolves pounced at him, yet he evaded their claws and arrived at their backs. Coiling his fingers around the thick fluffy tail of the first wolf.
He balanced his weight on his left leg and with slight force, the wolf, which was already at the edge of this three meters embrasures on the five meters tall wall, fell. The troop down quickly surrounded it and pierced it to death.
Cristian was about to split the second wolf into two when he felt a tingle. His eyes widened. He had forgotten something important. Some wolves were called wind wolves for a reason.
With no other choice, Cristian placed Burning Fury behind him. The broad part covered a good portion of his back and it was the exact spot the wind blast from the head wolf's mouth hit.
Bam!
The impact threw Cristian into the air. Mid-air, he slashed, cleanly beheading the second wolf. The pitiful level 13 wolf died instantly.
Bam! He roughly slammed into the hard wooden floor and his entire body ached. The moment the wind blast hit him, he almost felt his skin shred.
However, with the addition of vitality, his health increased and, in turn, his physique strengthen. Health increased muscle strength and regeneration speed and improves organs. Anyone with cancer would be healed if they had enough vitality!
Ding!
The sound of his blade and sharp claws colliding rang loudly. Cristian grunted, grabbed the wolf's lower jaw, and pierced Burning Fury right through the heart of the beast.
The flaming sword came out from the other end. The blood boiled and dried and he pushed the beast away from his body.
[you have killed a level 24 wind wolf, Agility +4]
[you have reached level 11, and you have gained two free stats points…]
[you have reached level 12, and you have gained two free stats points…]
[you have reached level 13, and you have gained two free stats points…]
'Fighting is the way. Level 13 already!' he exclaimed internally. His current aim would be to get his vitality to level ten and then push his strength to 100!
Pouring all his stats points into vitality, it came up to ten, and his health now possessed 150 points.
Screams, yells and growls snapped away his joyous thoughts, and he realized he stood on a battlefield. It was lethal to lose concentration.
More wolves had made it up and slaughtered soldiers. The soldiers without armor were meat for the taking.
The bloodied scene made Cristian frown. His pupils dilated when he saw the soldiers around Sheila falling. The Dark Lord must have ordered his wolves to target her.
'Stubborn,' he scoffed and dashed toward her location. He swung his massive blade, sending wolves away from the wall.
"Thanks, sir" Cristian turned to a young warrior. From his looks, he was still a kid in his late teens. "Go!" he barked, turned, and stabbed forward.
The blade pierced through the skull of a wolf, about to launch a sneak attack. "Join your dead kind," Cristian scowled and kicked the wolf off the wall.
With sloppy control, he manipulated the air and leaped high. Two wolves jammed their heads and got dizzy.
Bam!
The heads of both wolves rolled as he slashed them off the moment he landed. Blood gushed, painting the wood red.
The level of both wolves was too low to give him any additional stats or even increase his EXP significantly.
With fierce speed, he bolted toward Sheila's location. The blue-haired beauty had been surrounded, and the defending soldiers succumbed to the fangs and claws of the ruthless beasts.
Yet, the gruesome scene around didn't faze her. Her job was to stop the wolves from breaking the defense line despite their numbers, and she would do that to the best of her abilities.
But the screams and cries of the dying men shattered her resolve. Sheila joined her hands and mumbled, "Mirage swords." Another diagram formed in her eyes and the one shooting fireballs slowly turned translucent.
She wasn't strong enough to use two Mortal tier skills at the same time. Her mana pool drained rapidly and her face became a little pale.
A circular diagram appeared on both sides, and two transparent swords shot out. Their sharp edges gleamed as the silvery glow of the moon shone on them.
The thick fur of the wolves stood no chance. In a split second, no wolf around her remained. Their divided parts shone as a result of the deadly skill Sheila used.
"Yes!"
"Kill them all!"
Her shocking feat served as a booster, as the rest of the troop were riled up. The sounds of spears, swords, and farming tools piercing the bodies of beasts filled the air, along with the howls of dying wolves.
"Are you okay?" she heard the voice of the lecherous, lying, but undeniably handsome warrior. The concern in his tone sounded genuine, but she was not so sure.
Cristian stared at Sheila, who knelt on the floor. She did not answer his question, but that wasn't important. The main issue was if Shelia was exhausted, how was he supposed to deal with the Dark Wolf Lord?
He could see that the defense on the walls won't hold for long as the wolves used their dead comrades as steps and as the bodies heaped, it became easier to reach the top of the wall.
"Sorry," he whispered, and Sheila frowned. She felt perplexed, but that feeling vanished when Cristian's muscular arms wrapped around her waist.
"What are y-"
She couldn't finish her words as he spun her, raised Burning Fury, and pierced the throat of a wolf. Her blue eyes flickered, and she felt strange and uncomfortable.
"Can you still fight or are you useless?" Cristian asked the beauty whose face was a few inches away from him.
Their eyes met, and he could feel her squirm. Her heart pounded and panic shot past her eyes. 'It can't be possible!' she screamed inwardly as her mind dubbed him as despicable, but her body reacted differently.
Sheila freed herself and brought out a vial from the small pouch at her exquisite dark blue belt that hugged her slender waist.
She uncorked it and gulp the content. "I'm not useless, you brute!"
"You should have said that earlier. These people can't hold for much longer, so we have to find this Dark Lord."
He massaged his right arm as it ached. Using a great sword like Burning Fury with one hand wasn't a good idea, but that was the only option at that time, so he bore the consequences without grumbling.
"No need to find him, he's right there." he turned to where she pointed and his emerald eyes flashed.
