Chapter 42: Waking Up.
Cough... Cough...
"Ughh... This pain."
Leo opened his bloodshot eyes as he looked at the familiar concrete ceiling above him, pondering before gazing toward the rays of weak light coming from the outside, shining through the gap of the black curtain.
Augh! Damn Black Crows! I would eradicate your race in the future!!
Sitting with great difficulty as he grimaces in discomfort, feeling the severely aching muscles around his body. Leo scanned the surrounding area with a sour expression, only to see the unconscious group on the cold ground, their chest heaving up weakly as dry blood could be seen on their face.
Further scanning the room, Leo soon met the shining gray eyes of the white cat, as it stayed beside the child, guarding it toward the unexpected.
Upon inspection, Leo noticed that it was clearly weakened based on its extra pale color and slightly dull gray eyes.
How long has it been?
Leo sighed deeply, thankful that they managed to survive the ordeal as he looked at the dark red stain on the floor, using it as his reference to tell the time.
Unfortunately, he was not well versed in this as he just came up with random guesses.
"I see, based on the dryness of the blood, I probably fell unconscious for at least 3 hours..."
Leo thought silently, as he weakly stood up and began to approach and examine the body of the group, trying to see if they sustained grave injuries after falling unconscious.
Sigh... Fortunately, no one died.
After observing the group for a couple of minutes, Leo let out a sigh of relief feeling the tension in his heart diminish a lot upon seeing that all of them were breathing and seemed fine.
"Still, based on the color of their faces, they would probably need to rest for a while to fully recover the loss of their blood."
Unfortunately, If I just could create a potion right now, It might save us a lot of time by fastening their recovery...
Without anything to do but to wait, Leo took out a biscuit from his inventory to eat before decided to open his character panel.

Horror points: 27,750
...
Seeing his current stats, Leo directly fell silent, the previous satisfaction upon seeing his stats greatly diminished as he remembered his weakness earlier.
Pondering for a second, Leo directly upgraded his Soul Shrieking to level 5 and Soul Scan to level 3 costing him a staggering 15,750 horror points.
Although Leo wanted to upgrade his Potion Knowledge and Puppetry Knowledge directly to level 5, the weakness and slight injury on his soul and body caused him to halt his plan... Since the forceful putting of a huge influx of knowledge inside his mind/brain might worsen his injuries.
Shaking his head in disappointment, Leo began to spend his free attributes points, spending 8 to his speed and 11 to his soul power. Instantly increasing his speed from the original 42 to 50 and soul power from 103 to 114.
Following that, Leo then saw his strength and stamina fluctuate slightly before increasing by a small amount!
Since his strength and stamina were related to his soul, it also increased after he increased his soul power!
"My overall strength increased by amount... Unfortunately, it is still far from satisfactory."
After arranging and checking his character panel, Leo nodded slightly in contentment before raising his head and scanned the surrounding area.
Sigh...
Seeing that the group was still unconscious, Leo then silently took out the bottle of Marrow Essence on his inventory, planning to increase its purity and also practice his "Extraction" skill to pass the time.
Extraction...
With glowing eyes, the crystal clear liquified marrow on the bottle magnified by times in front of his eyes, as the familiarity of being in control of the liquid naturally came to him...
In an instant, Leo saw small particles (with the sizes of small sand to dust) that shouldn't have been within the liquified marrow floating inside of it.
Extract... Extract.
Controlling and enveloping the dust with weak invisible mana, Leo cautiously and carefully takes it out outside the bottle before again continuing the process repeatedly...
Failed, again, and Extract.
Failed... Again... Extract...
Cough...
After minutes of careful extraction of the impurities, Leo coughed slightly before taking a sigh of relief as he began to check his final product. Although the bottle still contains a hint of red, compared to earlier, it was less noticeable...
I still couldn't extract the blood...
Ding!
[ Liquified Marrow (Uncommon) (72% pure) - An extracted marrow from the body of a Foundation-level beast and got tainted by impurities in the process of extraction... ]
"72%, it is still too little..." Leo shook his head in disappointment, putting the bottle into his inventory before taking the other bottle and continuing to extract the impurities within.
As Leo was processing the 2nd bottle...

Cough... Cough...
Where am I? Who am I?
Jake opened his red eyes with difficulty as he eyed the unconscious group on the cold ground in puzzlement before finally looking at the ceiling in a daze... After minutes of momentary confusion, Jake's eyes lit up as the fog in his head began to clear up.
"I see, my skill and my sense of being a watcher failed me... In the end... I almost lost our lives..."
Sigh...
I should have upgraded my scan skills first before upgrading my offensive skills... Now that we suffered from being caught off guard, it's already too late to regret my past actions.
