Chapter 64: Vanquish the Unholy
"S-sire… We have a palanquin worthy of your status… Why don't we help you get back to the camp? We can solve your key issues there…"
Hiro looked back at the cluster of scared demons, nodding appreciatively. "How sensible of you. Alright, I'll protect you on the way to the camp."
The lesser demonic creatures rejoiced, and their leader secretly felt smug at how smart he was.
Thus, Hiro joined the random entourage of demons, roaming the desolate pocket dimension in search for resources, humans to kill, and whatever was worthy of their attention on the way.
…
Inside the creepy palanquin, Hiro sat on a modest throne constructed from the bones of myriad races, looking past the thin curtains and taking in the scenery this pocket dimension had to offer.
Dark clouds, red sand, cracked earth, and billowing smoke. It was the scene of an encroaching catastrophe.
As they went along, the entourage of lesser demonic creatures around him increased considerably, and all manners of weird creatures surrounded his palanquin.
It couldn't be helped, as every life had the instinctive drive to survive, seeking shelter under the strong.
However, this also meant that Hiro had to occasionally synchronize with his demonic character for frequent fights, which was a loss of achievement points in his mind.
Unfortunately, he could only bear with it for now.
"Sire, I sense a powerful team of humans up ahead!"
Zenka's subordinate, the demon with the physique that resembled that of a human the most, hurriedly reported.
"Is that so?" Hiro was yawning when he heard the report. Rubbing his eyes tiredly, he synchronized with Sitri once again, his consciousness flooding out.
It was menacing, dark, gloomy, and filled with slaughter intent. It was like an expansion cloud of doom, quickly covering up an area of over a dozen kilometers.
On the other side.
"Not good," the person leading the group cried out. "It's a Great Demon! A very powerful Great Demon"
He quickly armed himself with a bow.
Two golden earrings glimmered brightly on his long ears, and two golden arrows appeared by his side.
Then another two, and another two, and more kept appearing. The light emitted from the arrows seemed to expel the darkness little by little, and in a short moment, the others around him geared up with their respective weapons.
The leader's expression was firm and resolute as he knocked five arrows on the silver bowstring, howling to the sky as he stretched the string to the limit.
"I'll buy some time, make a run for it!"
As he shouted, five incomparably bright arrows tore through the air, spinning rapidly.
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
The cloud of darkness, which represented Hiro's sweeping consciousness, suffered greatly as its form distorted.
In the distance, Hiro's eyes squinted as he let out a soft snort of pain, quickly disengaging his consciousness from the demonic energy.
Then, he waved his hand, and the demonic energy condensed into a humanoid figure with robust muscles, a thick long tail, and a pair of bat wings.
The figure seemed both real and illusory, and as its blank expression looked down, a ball of demonic energy started to form where its mouth should have been.
In the palanquin, Hiro lowered his hand and spoke coldly, "Rampage."
Rampage!
One of Sitri's awakened abilities—it can gather demonic energy from the elements into a densely compact sphere of energy that would soon explode like a bomb, indiscriminately attacking all elements unaffiliated with demonic energy.
"Not good," the man in the lead, who was obviously an awakened elf, had an ugly expression.
He was only a Tier-8, and although he was at the peak of his tier, it was still nothing in the face of a Tier-7 Great Demon.
Just as he thought he was about to die, a resplendent golden sword descended from the sky.
"Sword of Judgment!"
Pfft!
The sword tore through the concentration of demonic energy, penetrated the chest of the incantation, and brought it down to the ground with a rumbling boom!
The demonic energy quickly dispersed, together with the condensed humanoid creature.
Only the massive golden sword remained embedded in the red ground, emitting a terrifying holy energy.
Hiro raised an eyebrow and slowly stood up inside his palanquin, "A battle priest from the Holy Church! Interesting, I can test the unification of universal energy and faith energy!"
Hiro was a little excited to meet such a powerful opponent. He didn't know that the Holy Church had left behind squadrons of paladins and battle priests.
However, it also made sense. Even if they relinquished some of the profits, they wouldn't give up completely.
Also, this was Hiro's chance to disengage from the demonic entourage without arousing suspicion.
"This will be a tough opponent," Hiro kicked out and destroyed over half of the demonic palanquin. "You little fellows should leave first, don't worry…"
Barely had Hiro finished talking when the demonic creatures tossed the palanquin to the ground with a thud!
Then, they scrambled away without as much as a glance behind them.
AHHHH!
They screamed frantically, the radiations of the golden light tearing wounds into their flesh and skin, some of them going blind as hot steam rose from their bodies.
"Damn," Hiro was surprised, not expecting the divine energy to affect these fellows so much.
In the distance, a host of men and women in clergy and nun clothes, geared toward combat, slowly walked over on a golden bridge of light.
As they moved, the bridge shrank from the back and extended to the front, continually expanding, using some mysterious method to compensate for energy waste and generate a pushing force.
"That's an interesting treasure," Hiro was amazed, but not very impressed. Cultivators around Tier-7 could already fly, and even if it was for short distances.
"Seems like this is indeed a Great Demon."
Above the bridge of light, the leading battle priest. No, but rather battle priestess, observed with narrowed eyes.
The waves of divine energy had a minimal impact on the person standing in front of them, which meant that his resistance to divine energy was greater than expected.
However, this wasn't as simple as resistance.
Divine energy was a mix of faith energy with the universal energy practiced by the Paranormals of the Holy Church.
As faith energy directly targeted the souls of the demonic creatures, they obviously couldn't resist. However, Hiro also counted as a divine existence, if only barely.
Thus, such little faith energy couldn't really do much to him, unless it was controlled by someone much stronger.
Hiro looked up, meeting the eyes of the battle priestess with his crimson gaze, hellfire dancing around his body.
As their gazes clashed, sparks seemed to have ignited in the invisible void. The priestess' expression hardened as she jumped off the goldfish light bridge, shouting to her companions.
"Leave this place quickly!"
She wasn't in the mood to whisper her instructions, as the tension in her body forced her to shout out those words.
Bone armor!
Hiro's eyes shifted, and spurs of bones jutted from his spine before twisting into a black exoskeleton with large bone wings.
He stretched out his hand toward the torn-down palanquin, pulling the stone sword over with tendrils of demonic energy.
The female priestess extended her hand out, the bracelet on her wrist transforming into a golden trident.
From midair, she spun and spun to generate momentum before tossing the trident like a javelin.
Boom!
Air exploded, and a powerful penetrating force carried the trident over.
Bone sword!
Hiro activated another ability, bone fragments dispersed from the exoskeleton and wrapped around the stone sword.
On the sword's spine, jagged bone fragments lined up like a chainsaw, and surges of demonic energy flooded into the sword.
Hiro's mind shifted, using the minimal comprehension of the Infinite Sword Matrix to cast a sword from hellfire, fusing it with the bone sword.
As his aura skyrocketed, Hiro stomped the ground—thin cracks webbed out from beneath his feet and the next moment, the pressure caused the earth to explode.
Hiro swung his sword out, directly clashing with the trident. He could have dodged this attack, but what's the point?
Bzzzt! Bzzzt! Bzzzt!
The clashing energies generated all manners of redundant forces—kinetic, thermal, magnetic, dynamic, divine, and demonic.
The priestess who saw the ongoing collision didn't even bother waiting for the outcome as she clasped her small hands.
Light as a feather, she landed on the trident with impeccable balance, her voice echoing like a decree from the Lords above.
"In my name, Vanquish the Unholy!"
Boom!
Streams of faith energy gathered from all directions, concentrating above the battle priestess.
Rays of golden lights penetrated the chaotic neutral energy that formed dense clouds above, revealing a shining star.
As the star spun, more and more faith energy gathered, compressed, and locked onto both the priestess and Hiro.
"I don't believe you will survive the great cleansing, you damned heretic!"
Hiro looked up, his eyes shooting past the battle priestess and staring at the gathering faith energy above.
"So, that's how you guys use faith energy to attack?" Hiro murmured, his struggling slowly giving way to a relaxed posture, dense demonic energy roiling about inside his body.
Hiro chuckled lightly, his voice superimposed the chanting as it sounded devilishly demonic and sinister, "Vanquish me? Are you worthy?"
