Cronus' system: Against the gods

Chapter 18: Your life is something else

Chapter 18: Your life is something else

A figure lurked in the shadows of the massive skyscrapers along the road. The figure watched as his target strode the road confidently and carelessly, without a care in the world. Although he'd hate doing this, he had no other choice. The higher-ups have decided his fate and there was nothing he could do to change it.

"Okay, it's time!" The figure revealed himself from the shadows. His dark brown hair cascaded down his cheek, covering one of his eyes, thereby giving him a sense of mystique. His eyes shone with a blinding white light as he looked at Rex intensely. "Okay Kid, sweet dreams!"

Meanwhile, Rex, his hands in his pocket, glanced around surprised that he couldn't see the sign of any Kaiju monster approaching. "Well...this is surprising" He sighed. "Hey, I hate being late!" Rex screamed out and just as he screamed, he finally saw it.

In an instant, the peaceful streets turned into a chaotic mess with buildings collapsing everywhere and monsters attacking the city, cars were turned upside down, and flames scorched the roads, just like it was the yester....damn it!

"How did this happen? Could it be that monster's ability?" Rex thought. He couldn't understand how the city had suddenly turned from a peaceful street to a monster carnival.

"Take heed, harbinger! Thou hast fallen under the effect of a spell" Cronus said

"A spell?... oh...yeah...there was a man, wasn't there?" Rex suddenly remembered the man who appeared to him on his deathbed. He could remember the way the man looked at him as if he was trash. "Damn it! I can't wait to stick my hand in his ass!" Rex growled

"Thou art a disgusting being" Cronus chuckled

"Darn, you!!!" Rex growled.

Suddenly, he heard the ground shaking. A roar loud enough to shatter a glass cup was heard from the distance. "Oh..." Rex turned his head in the direction of the voice "My exp has arrived" Rex grinned, revealing his sparkling teeth.

"Belittle not thine opponent, harbinger" Cronus's voice resounded in his head.

"Relax, Crony, It shouldn't be too strong," Rex said as he activated his god's eyes

Name: half-blooded Cerberus

Level: Tier one common beast

Ability: roar(reduces an opponent's stat by 20%), (Claw slash)

Strength: 15

Agility: 13

Endurance: 12

"Wow, half-blooded Cerberus? This thing isn't too bad though" Rex said. "If it's a tier-one common beast at its current strength and a tier-one common beast is equivalent to a tier-one basic ability user, at my current strength, I should be in between tier one and 2" Rex examined

"I outclass it in speed and endurance by a large margin, I guess" Rex said

"What's with the kid? Smiling amidst the destruction" The man in the shadows spoke. Even he wouldn't smile upon sighting a beast like this.

The beast lunged forward, its eyes glowing red as it dashed toward Rex, who stood unfazed while letting out a slight yawn "Man... it's almost like it's making a dramatic entrance but I think I'll show it how a dramatic entrance is supposed to be

Rex's muscles tensed for a moment, and then, with a sudden burst of speed, he dashed forward, closing the gap between him and the half-blooded Cerberus in an instant. The beast, caught mid-lunge, was unprepared for the lightning-fast counterattack.

"Now, that's a dramatic entrance!" Rex quipped, his fist glowing faintly with Aether as he drove it directly into the beast's snarling maw. The sheer force of the punch reverberated through the air, a shockwave scattering dust and debris around them as the Cerberus was sent crashing into a nearby building.

The impact left cracks along the structure, as the beast lay still for a second, stunned by the sheer strength Rex had displayed. Yet, despite the brutal blow, the creature rose again, albeit shakily. Its three heads roared in unison, the sound deafening, and Rex could feel a sudden pressure descend on him, the creature's roar ability attempting to sap his strength.

"Ha, trying to reduce my stats, huh?" Rex muttered, rolling his shoulders as if shaking off the weight. His grin only widened. "Nice trick, but it's not going to help you."

The man in the shadows watched in disbelief. "Impossible..." he whispered under his breath, his gaze fixed on Rex, who stood casually, despite the Cerberus' intimidating power. "No one should be able to stand up to that roar like it's nothing... "They told me he doesn't have an ability so what the hell is this?!"

The creature dashed forward again after failing to weaken its opponent, it slashed his claws in the air, sending a shockwave of energy in form of three claw marks.

Rex instantly dashed sideways to avoid the claw-marks and then smiled "Nice one Cerb, but I'm done playing games" Rex sighed and then his hands started glowing with Aether. Rex threw a punch forward at the Cerberus' head at a speed that the Cerberus couldn't react to.

The punch created a shockwave and sent the Cerberus flying backwards, it's internal organs gushing out of it's body but surprisingly, there was no blood. The animal just dissipated into thin air like it was never there in the first place

"Hmm, I think I know what ability this is" Rex sighed.

"It's the the Psychic or more like telepathic ability!" Rex screamed out in his mind. What type of shit was this! Who the heck did he offend? If his opponent could do this, then that means he was at least a tier-one advanced ability user!"

Right now, everything he was seeing was fake, nothing was real. It was all an illusion

Then suddenly, the whole city dissolved into a void. The towering buildings, the chaotic streets, the rampaging monsters—all vanished in an instant, swallowed by an overwhelming darkness. Rex stood still, his feet seemingly planted in the infinite blackness that now stretched as far as his eyes could see. No sound. No life. Just a vast, eerie silence.

"Kid, I don't know how you did that out there," a cold, calculating voice echoed from behind Rex, breaking the oppressive silence. "But what are you?"

Rex didn't flinch. He smirked to himself before slowly turning around to face the man. His glowing God's Eyes flickered briefly, locking onto the figure emerging from the shadows of the void. The man's dark hair, covering one of his eyes, framed his sharp, distrustful gaze, illuminated by the dim, glowing light of his own powers. He looked battle-hardened and wary, but his expression betrayed a sense of awe and confusion.

Ralph blinked in confusion. "What?"

"Never mind!" Rex sighed, shaking his head. "Look, man, I don't have time for this. Let's just skip the dramatics. I've got places to be, and.." Rex suddenly stopped mid-sentence. The most crucial piece of information finally blinked across his vision.

Rex's grin widened mischievously. "Oh, I see... perfect."

Ralph, sensing something was off, took a cautious step back. "What's with that creepy smile?"

Rex cracked his knuckles and shrugged. "Oh, nothing. Just feeling a bit... playful."

Before Ralph could respond, Rex dashed forward with blinding speed, reaching Ralph's side in an instant. "Let's test out this 'Silent Killer' thing."

Without warning, Rex jabbed two fingers into Ralph's left side.

"EEP!" Ralph squealed, leaping three feet into the air and clutching his side. His intimidating demeanor instantly shattered.

Rex couldn't hold back the laughter anymore. "Silent Killer, huh? More like Squealing Killer!"

Ralph, red-faced and flustered, glared at Rex. "Y-You... How did you know?!"

"god's eyes my friend!" Rex smiled

"Harbinger, thou didst not pay attention to his main stats!"

"What the hell!!!" Rex instantly cursed. This man's intelligence and Agility was way off the charts. How was he supposed to win against this!
