Chapter 87 - Lioness
Chapter 87 - Lioness
Xiu Mei:....?????
Xiu Mei turned stiff with the sudden contact. Before she could even react, Lu Chen tightened his embrace even more that she thought he was trying to carry her. She stood tiptoed as Lu Chen buried his face in her hair and neck.
"Lu Chen, what are you doing?" She pursed her lips as she struggled to stay still in his embrace.
Yes, she allowed him to hug her but she didn’t mean that he can take advantage of her like this!!
"Recharging." Lu Chen’s body relaxed as he continued to cling onto her body. Despite the height difference, he was very comfortable with slightly bending his body and lifting her body up just to hug her.
He could still smell the scent of shampoo she was using and that made him even more relaxed. Her scent was slowly becoming his own sedative that calms him down making him more addicted.
The first night he brought her home from the hospital to continue recuperating, he found out that he gets more relaxed whenever he’s close with her. At first, he was just contented with holding her hand as she slumbered, unaware of her surroundings.
But on the second night, like a sneaky pervert, he pulled her into his embrace and contentedly inhaled her comforting scent. His worries were completely blown away as soon as their skin touch touched. Maybe it’s because of her warmth that he slowly put his hanging heart down that calmed him. Because she’s there, alive and well, despite what she’d gotten through.
On the other hand, Xiu Mei, who had been treated as a charger didn’t know if she should be angry or flattered. She was unbelievably amazed by Lu Chen’s tactics in courting. He is the most shameless amongst all the guys who dared to court her knowing her strong background. Damn, he even surpasses the playboy Han Min in being shameless!
Since she’s not strong enough to push him away, her hand that was on his waist pinched him a bit hard.
"Behave."
Lu Chen whispered as he coaxed the woman in his arms to not beat him up. With a military background, her beatings would still hurt him a little.
"Then you stop hugging me!"
"Just let me hug you for awhile. I’m very exhausted these days."
With all the work he had to catch up and taking care of the two ancestors in his house, he wasn’t really sure where he could still have the energy to wake up every day. Despite what people say, he’s still a human who gets tired from time to time. It’s just, his body is more sturdy than most people.
"..."
Fine, she’s feeling guilty now.
She had skipped so much work and Lu Chen found time to take care of her before so she was partly responsible for why he’s getting overworked these past weeks.
Forget it. Let him take advantage ah.
As long as he’s not eating her meat then she can allow him to do as he pleases. Though it’s better if he doesn’t know that.
Xiu Mei finally stopped trying to push him back and didn’t move anymore. She just placed her hand in his waist, lightly tapping him.
The two of them stayed like that for another minute before Lu Chen decided to pull away but he still didn’t let her free from his arms.
"Oh, I almost forgot. What do you think about enrolling Lu Qiang to a primary school?"
Xiu Mei finally remembered this matter. In the past two weeks was accompanying the child, she got to see how lonely his back looked like everytime he was alone.
Since the two of them have jobs, they couldn’t spend the entire day with him most of the time. Thinking of this, Xiu Mei decided to ask Lu Chen about his opinion in enrolling him to school to improve his character and social ability.
Lu Chen slightly frowned at the suggestion. If it were the others, he would’ve straightly said no and declined it but this was his wife, Lu Qiang’s stepmother. His wellbeing is what this woman in front of him mostly worries about and the matter she was bringing up is surely for that same matter.
"I didn’t let him enroll because he’d be in danger outside."
Xiu Mei could sense that there’s a secret behind that reason but she didn’t dwell on it and focused more on convincing him to say yes.
"But he’d grow up sheltered, with no ability to protect himself when he grows up."
"I can just train him when he grows up until no one can defeat him anymore."
Hearing that, Xiu Mei felt slightly distressed with Lu Chen’s way of educating the little kid. Feeling slightly infuriated, she punched his chest a little bit harder earning a groan from Lu Chen.
"What you’re doing is just trying to control him. Do you really want to see him friendless and alone for the rest of his life?"
If this guy dares to say yes then she will beat him up. Even if she isn’t Lu Qiang’s stepmother, any parent that would think like that is definitely not a good parent.
"Wife, you’re hurting your husband."
"Oh, you can still feel pain?"
"..."
Sensing the menacing tone from Xiu Mei quickly cleared his head. Judging from Xiu Mei’s personality, the two of them will go into another cold war if he doesn’t speak well.
"It’s just safe if he’s here under my watch." He justified his decisions.
It’s not like he wanted to cage his son but he’s a precious person for him that’s why he didn’t want him to get hurt. And that’s the same for Xiu Mei.
Though the ultimate reason he married her was to become Lu Qiang’s mother figure, it was also to know her a little better and protect her from wind and rain.
"But he’d never grow up. If he doesn’t know at an early age how to differentiate good people from bad people, I highly doubt he’ll survive in this circle for a long time."
Once this point was flagged, Lu Chen finally caught on to this problem.
Hmm... why did he miss that possibility?
If he only let Lu Qiang around with people he trusted, he’d never know how cunning other people are.
Since he’s planning to leave his power and company in his hands, the little guy should learn how to stand up by himself when he grows older. At that time, it’ll be more difficult to know who to trust and not to trust.
"Hmm, I think you have a point."
"See? Think about it, it’s not only physical dangers that Lu Qiang should be careful of. The most terrible thing of all is the darkness lurking inside a person’s heart. What if one day Lu Qiang falls into that trap and gets into an accident? Or worse, killed?"
Xiu Mei didn’t really wanna talk about these works possible scenarios but if she do not bring this up now, then Lu Qiang’s future will be doomed.
She almost walked on that path and she got injured at an early stage but that event led to a shadow in her heart. Knowing that she couldn’t let Lu Qiang go through that same pain in the future.
It’s better if the two of them steel their hearts a little bit more than to see him in pain.
"Alright, I’ll think about it more tonight and see if I could plan something." Lu Chen rubbed her slightly wet hair. "Thank you for the suggestion, wife."
"Hmph, you almost didn’t listen to me isn’t it?"
"I always listen to you and will still do in the future."
Even though Xiu Mei was spot on with her hunch, Lu Chen would never admit it. Her wife is too sharp and inept, it took a lot of his efforts to chase this rabbit—ah no, more like a lioness. A great protector and nurturer.
"Oh." Xiu Mei sarcastically responded.
As if she was going to believe him.
With his character plus her character, it’s definitely going to be an eventful future ahead.
With both strong-headed characters as a couple, they would inevitably clash in the future. Lu Chen is the type to attack and Xiu Mei is the type to be stubborn. At this rate they’re going, arguments wouldn’t really be that surprising.
"Well, if that’s all I’d rather go back to my room and rest early. I still a lot of work to piled up for tomorrow." She yawned as drowsiness slowly invaded her body.
Because she hadn’t fully recovered, working full 8 hours today maybe took a toll in her body. Tomorrow, she should start planning first and schedule her stuff. This way, she won’t be tired as much as today.
"Okay, I won’t hold you back anymore. Goodnight, wife."
"Goodnight."
She tapped his shoulder for the last time before turning back to leave the room. As soon as she laid down on her bed, she instantly fell asleep.
