Chapter 70 - Who wants her life?
Chapter 70 - Who wants her life?
Xiu Mei continued recharging her energy by hugging Lu Qiang tightly in her arms. The little kiddo, however, enjoyed the intimacy his mom was showing and did his best to hug her arm trying to return the fervor.
As the two continued having their own little world, Lu Chen narrowed his eyes as he continued eyeing them for quite a while now. Distracted from reading his emails and other doc.u.ments, he watched the two getting sticky with each other and crossed his arms.
Lu Chen couldn’t understand what he was feeling right now. He feels... irritated by the scene in front of him. He couldn’t understand why but he was itching to squeeze in between the two of them to put some distance but he didn’t act on his urges.
His fists clenched and unclenched multiple times as he tried to push down the annoyance he was feeling. He cooled down himself and shifted his attention back to the screen of his laptop where rows of words flashed in front of him.
Randomly clicking one of his emails, he suddenly paused. His eyes grew cold as he quickly read the contents of the email. A minute later, he wrapped up all his things and prepped to leave the hospital.
"Mr.Lu, you’re going back to the office?" Xiu Mei curiously asked as she saw Lu Chen packing up his laptop and other doc.u.ments in the bag. She was surprised when she saw Lu Chen suddenly stand up and shut down his laptop while in the midst of his work.
Was it an emergency?
"Something like that." Lu Chen shortly replied as he continued cleaning up his table.
She even checked her phone and email just in case something really popped up but nothing came up. She was contemplating whether to give her assistant a call to ask but instantly removed this idea from her mind.
Why should she care right now? It’s not like she can really do something and help with her current situation. Lying in the hospital and injured and all.
"I’ll be back in a bit." Lu Chen didn’t say any more words before quickly exiting her room. Xiu Mei’s gaze stayed on the door as her curiosity grew even more after what made Lu Chen leave the hospital in so much rush.
"Mom, should I peel an orange for you?" Lu Qiang innocently blinked at her. Xiu Mei woke up from her senses and shifted her focus to the kid in her arms.
"Sure, Mom would love that."
Lu Qiang broke away from Xiu Mei’s arms as he approached the fruit table to grab an orange.
While Lu Qiang was kept distracted by the current chore of feeding his Mom, Xiu Mei quickly went back on her laptop.
She dozed off in front of her screen for a few seconds then quickly changed browsers. She quickly glanced at Lu Qiang’s direction before continuing her actions.
She typed on her keyboard and entered a few codes. A minute later, she was able to pull out the video from the bas.e.m.e.nt garage incident a week ago.
She bit her lip as she quickly set the video on double speed, trying to pick up some clues on the people who tried to attack her.
Since she was kept on tight leash and security for the past few days, Xiu Mei barely had the opportunity to dig deep about the truth behind her attempted kidnapping. With her second brother gone since the first he visited her in the hospital, she couldn’t squeeze out the information from him at all.
Her parents? Not a chance. Her mother with being a soldier, XIu Mei didn’t need to exert any effort at all. Even if she tortures her mom, her mother wouldn’t spill anything at all.
Her Dad? Would you expect a politician to be loose-lipped? Heck, he’s way more cunning than most businessmen she met before.
Lu Chen? The iceblock would never spill a bean. Just his expression instantly made her shut up. She tried asking him but it was to no avail that she utterly failed. Don’t you dare try to mess with a cunning President.
And with Lu Qiang constantly around her, seemingly monitoring her if she’s having enough rest or has eaten on time, Xiu Mei couldn’t find a good timing to dig deeper.
Though, she does have a couple of people in mind that may have had a hand behind her attempted kidnapping.
Being in this business ever since she was young, it couldn’t be avoided that she have a lot of enemies and all. But there were only a few people who would want her life so badly that they would want to kidnap or kill her on the spot.
And one of those is Ying Yue’s parents.
