Chapter 64 Assassins' Ambush!
Jack couldn't help but chuckle.
The dejected expression of the assassins was priceless. It seemed like once more they had failed an assassination, their target coming back with a highly merry Earth Lord.
And yet…they still hadn't given up?
They had barely returned yet were already planning their next move, Jack listening to it all as usual. But just as he was eavesdropping, a proud fox approached him.
"Woo!" (Master, TREASURE!)
It was holding a medallion in its paws. The thing was engraved with a blurry silhouette and what looked like a guardian angel watching over it. As for what it was…
"Gasp! A Second Life Medallion… here?!" The Ghost silently exclaimed.
This thing was a life-saving measure that could save one from the brink of death once. What made it so great was that it was extremely hard to counter.
"A Legendary Healer made those long ago, but I thought they had all disappeared! Quick, kid, wear it! I don't know how an assassin had that, but you lucked out!"
Said assassin was now glaring daggers at a certain baby. His most valuable treasure, stolen by a freaking baby?! Not only was this ludicrous, but it was the greatest waste ever!
After all, a baby was defenseless.
One life? Two life? It wouldn't bloody matter as long as the baby's protector was dead. Had the Dawn Lords not been here, he'd— but for now, he could only grind his teeth and scheme.
"Don't worry. We'll get it back somehow… For now, we need to focus on the Water Lord's Nephew. This time, we need to be decisive; we can't leave anything to chance!"
"Chance? You mean foxes, right?! I swear, those smelly things have the worst timing of all. Can't go anywhere at all without them swarming the damn place."
"Yes, we just need to be quicker! No more convoluted plans. We'll strike quick and true!"
"Damn, right. Let's get this goddamn mission over."
The three remaining assassins grumbled. As for their poisoned colleague, he had left the party of his own volition, looking a little sickly. Still, three was enough!
The youngster was as naive as doomed!
Even now, he was still happily drinking with the Earth Lord. The two had bonded over alcohol, loudly boasting about their proficiency in magic.
"Humph, I'm one of the Dawn Lords; of course, I'm STRONK!"
"Perhaps, but I'm way younger than you are, and my future is limitless! Just watch me, I'll become the next Water Lord, and I'll lead Dawn to a new age of—"
But just as they were talking shit with their faces flushed, a young lady suddenly approached the two. She seemed incredibly nervous, twirling her slender fingers.
"H-hey there…"
Her target was obvious; she only had eyes for the Water Lord's Nephew. She was the epitome of purity and seemed so cute as she searched for her words.
"Oh? What is it, young lady? Do you need help with anything?"
"W-would you like to take a walk with me? The night sky at this hour is incredibly breathtaking and—" She was redder than a tomato, yet she kept going with her offer.
"Say no more, fair lady. Of course!"
Had the youngster not been in public, he would have been rejoicing out loud. This girl was just his type! Without giving it a second thought, he happily followed behind her.
A distance away, Jack sighed.
The assassins had sent her. Her infatuation was real, but it would quickly die once the would-be lovers had their throats slit. Lucky for them, foxes just 'happened' to follow.

.
.
The night was dark and refreshing.
It was the perfect ambiance for the lovebirds to stroll in the place's flower garden, roses everywhere the eye could see. But the blossoms weren't the only lovely thing.
"Gasp! This one's so gorgeous!"
"Perhaps, but your beauty eclipses it. There's—"
The cheesiest lines were spouted with a straight face, the two lovebirds seemingly stuck in their own pink world. Yet, barely minutes into their nightly excursion, it was all shattered.
— FLASH! WHOOSH! —
Out of nowhere, daggers flew toward the youngster's face!
This time, he was fucked! He had been utterly taken by surprise, and by the time he reacted, everything would be over! The assassins cheered as the dagger sliced the young man's neck!
Foxes in the back gazed at this happen with bulging eyes. What?! So fast?! They hadn't had time to get in position?! What the hell had happened?!
Blood splashed everywhere.
It drenched the poor woman, the assassins nearby, and even the foxes watching in the back, shell-shocked. What had been a lovely date had suddenly turned into a terrifying nightmare.
But amidst the horrifying stunned silence that followed.
"FUCK, something's wrong!"
"That ain't blood… it's WATER!"
That's when it happened. The Water Mage's body suddenly collapsed like a wave on the beach. It exploded in millions of water droplets… it had been a Water Clone?!
The assassin's training instantly kicked in, their bodies dodging before they could even realize the danger. That's when water blades barely missed their vitals!
The youngster reappeared. This time, however, he was different.
Lovestruck and drunk youngster? Nope, his gaze was more rigid than steel, Water Magic swirling against him in preparation for his next attack.
"Tch— So close."
"Y-you, you've been faking this whole time?!"
He had been drinking wine nonstop but turned it into Water as soon as it hit his stomach, avoiding intoxication. He, too, had been playing the fool?!
As for the recordings… he hadn't just tried to get them out of shame. He had somehow realized something was wrong and was trying to get proof!
He was now glaring at the assailants, even giving a cold laugh.
"So it was you guys all along, eh? Do you think you're the first to try and assassinate me?"
"Perhaps, but we'll be the first to succeed!"
Full of confidence, an assassin took out a bundle of tentacles oozing of darkness, resolutely crushing the thing. That's when they all grinned.
A second later, the entire courtyard started rumbling as if coming alive!
Two seconds later, tendrils of darkness erupted from the ground, shooting toward every living creature in the garden: foxes, young lady, and especially the water mage.
It was time to kill...
