Chapter 1152 - 137- Trinity – Showdown Part 1 (VOLUME 6)

There were the semi trucks that had nearly killed so many people. I was looking at twelve of them altogether, and they were all the same. They had large black cabins with black tinted windows and shining silver grills on the front. The pipes for their exhaust were huge and shimmering in the bright sun, the same silver as the grills.
And the backs of the trucks, the trailers that they were carrying, were all long and covered in black tarp like material. It wasn’t an actual trailer that closed, more like a flatbed that was covered to give privacy.
"Who the hell are they?" Devon asked from his new position next to the stadium’s entrance. "And what the hell are they doing here?"
"I don’t know." I told him as I took a step forward. "I just know that they almost killed these people." I said as I pointed to the men and women that had been there to protest my existence.
I had not saved them just so that they would accept me and approve of me and my people. I did it because I didn’t want people to be hurt like that. I didn’t want to see them die just because someone was being careless and stupid. Or possibly cruel and evil in this case. They obviously wanted to hurt someone, or else they wouldn’t have come barreling to a stop where they knew people had been standing.
The door to one of the trucks opened, the passenger side door of the vehicle that had been in the lead. And as the man stepped out of it, I noticed that he was clapping sarcastically.
"Oh, bravo, Mrs. Gray. Bravo. I see that you are trying to win brownie points with those species traitors."
"Huh?" I looked at the man confused. "Who are you?"
"Oh, come on now, Trinity, you have to know who I am." The man laughed. "I am offended that you can’t spot me on sight. Not with all that we have been through since the fall." He was grinning at me, an expression that made my skin want to crawl. I steeled myself though, not wanting to let him see that he was affecting me.
"I am sorry, I don’t know who you are."
"Trinity." Reece called out to me, not lowering his voice at all. "That is Harrison Orson, that former NSA agent." Reece made a point of telling him that he was no longer employed while also telling me who the man was.
"I still hold my position, beast man. Thank you for that introduction though."
"Vincent." I whispered. "Call Director Glick and the others. Let them know that Orson is here."
"Yes, Trinity." His lips didn’t move and his voice was no more than a whisper. Orson wouldn’t know that he had said anything at all. And he was capable of calling Dayton mentally to let him know what was going on. There would be reinforcements here very soon.
"So, you’re Agent Orson." I said as I took several steps forward. I wanted to put myself between the humans and Orson. He was unstable, and likely to kill more people at the drop of a hat.
After he had left the caves, we had heard that he killed another four people. They hadn’t been found right away, but they had been shot and killed by him, just like the others had been. He was trigger happy and crazy, a combination that wasn’t good for anyone that was present.
"What is this? You think that you need to protect the humans from me?" Orson laughed, but it was anything but happy. The sound of that laughter was tainted with more evil than I had heard in a long time. If I was being completely honest with myself, I hadn’t heard the kind of crazy that sounded like this since my father had been alive, before he had had his revelation in the underworld.
Just the very note that was in Orson’s voice made it sound like the man wanted to kill as many people as possible. And, truthfully, with what we knew about Orson, he had the same delusions that my father used to have. He wanted to rule the world. To enslave it and make people do what he wanted for the rest of his life. Even if Orson was a human, that was a very dire future to be imagining.
"Yes, Orson, I do think that I need to protect them from you. I mean, you did just try to run them over with those nice trucks of yours. And to think, it was the group that hates me and thinks more like you that you tried to murder just now. Had I not gotten them out of there on time, they would have died. All of them. How can I not fear for the humans if that is how you do things?"
"Hmph." He seemed to scoff at me. "Anyone that stands there and listens to you without trying to openly kill you is a blood traitor. They are not fit to inhabit this world anymore than you are. They shall perish in this battle just as you will."
"Battle?" I asked him, the word coming out with a little more anger than I wanted it to. "I was not aware that we were going to face off in a battle."
"Of course we are. This is war, after all. And I intend to win this war. This is the final battle, Mrs. Gray. You will see that soon enough.
You and those monsters with you will not survive this day."
I turned to the side to look at the humans that were present. Specifically, I was looking at the reporters that had been here. Some of them had been in support of us, and some had been against us, but all of them were broadcasting this scene to the world, well all of them that had cameras. They were going to show the world that it wasn’t me that was the enemy here.
They were going to show the world that all I wanted was to keep the people safe.
"I think that you are mistaken, Orson." I narrowed my eyes at him, making sure that I was tracking every movement that he made. "There will be no battle today or any day. I do not wish to fight you or anyone else. All we want is to live our lives in peace. We are not animals or monsters. We are people, and we don’t want to go to war."
"I am not giving you a choice, bitch!" Orson’s words came out loud and vehement. His eyes had narrowed as well, glinting in the light as he watched me from across the walkway. "You do not deserve to live. You are an abomination, a monster, and the world will be better off without you and those other things in it." He was speaking so forcefully that he kept having strings of spit fly from his mouth.
I was really glad that I wasn’t closer to him, I didn’t want to be hit by one of those flying spit bombs.
"And just what do you think that you are going to do to me, Orson? How are you going to force us into a battle?"
I was trying to keep the man talking, even if it was just more of his ranting. I needed to bide time for the others to get here. I wasn’t able to open a door at the moment, not without Orson seeing it. And that meant that Glick, Dayton, Dolan, and even Rawlynne and Jackson, needed to drive here on their own.
And they needed to do it without arousing the suspicions of the man that was already way beyond the edge of insanity. He was lost somewhere in the dark abyss of the mind.
Not knowing what Orson was capable of at the moment, I needed to keep things calm with him. I had to keep it so that he was still providing me with information, and a chance to come up with a plan. I was not expecting this. Not right now. He shouldn’t be in the city.
Actually, come to think of it, I believe that the sensation that I was feeling was the manifestation of the device that I had made to let me know when he entered the city. I had, mistakenly, left it at home when I came to the stadium today. If I had brought it with me, I would have known that it was Orson coming right away, and I would have been able to prepare ahead of time.
I had forgotten it though, and therefore I was unprepared. At least the device had known to alert me to the danger, even if it hadn’t been clear to me from the beginning. The moment that I was starting to feel that something was off, it had to be when Orson entered the city.
And there was no need to wonder how he knew where to find me. He knew right where to go because of the broadcasts that were happening throughout the time that I had been here with the humans and the others. Those news crews had led Orson right to where I was, and to where all these vulnerable people were.
DAMMIT! I swore to myself. I needed to stop this man. I needed to protect those humans. And I needed to make sure that there was no more damage to the city, or the stadium. And I needed to do it in a way that wasn’t going to make the humans fear me even more than they already did.
I needed to make sure that there was nothing that was going to come back on us, nothing that was going to hurt our cause.
This was hard, and very tricky. A balancing act of this kind could end up going in the wrong direction way too easily. If I wasn’t careful, I could make the humans all hate us, even the supporters. And if I didn’t keep an eye on things, I could accidentally let some of them get hurt. Not that it would be me or my people that hurt them. No, that would be Orson and his crew.
Still, it was up to me and my people to protect them, to keep them all safe. That was the most important thing here.
I felt all of these emotions and more coursing through my body as I looked across the way at Orson. He was the only one that had come out of the vehicles so far, so I didn’t know how many people he had with him. And I didn’t know what sort of firepower he had brought with him.
He had said that he was here for a battle, but what sort of battle was he here for? What was he planning? How deadly did he intend on this being? There were so many things that I needed to know to figure this out, but I had no way of knowing.
With no idea what Orson had up his sleeve, I had to assume the worst. I had to plan my counterattack on him, and in doing so, I had to make sure that it was enough to stop him and all the others in one go. I was planning a barrier of some kind, something that would protect everyone here, but I was still trying to map it out in my mind’s eye.
And I needed to wait until Glick and the others got here as well. I needed them to be here so that they could take Orson into custody.
The best solution here was no one, not even Orson, being hurt. He would face his trial and be punished according to the law. He was going to be tried for several murders as well as the terrorism, so he might still die in the long run, a federal execution. However, until a judge made that decision, it wasn’t up to me to end the man’s life.
