Chapter 186: Palkus’ Journey! 4
The reason why the elder wanted to announce the grand test was because it was a rare event, thus, worthy of inviting the world to see it.
Not even 20 minutes after Palkus and the elders entered the room, the alchemy guild, which was what this building was called, started welcoming guests one by one.
The seats were paid for, and every single guest that wanted to watch the grand test had to pay a certain amount.
The currency of Portalia was different from continent to continent but after the Gomen connected the world, the only recognized currency was the Portalian Dollar.
Thus, the guests had to pay $50 per seat. In less than 30 minutes, the alchemy guild has gained 250,000 dollars, which Palkus had a share of since he was the grand test participant; he didn't know of this yet, and in fact, not all grand test participants had a share. Just this once, the elder wanted to leave a good impression on Palkus.
The room was called a large lab but it was more like a lecture room. The place where the teacher would have been is where Palkus was sitting at this moment, watching as the guests entered one by one and took their seats.
Aside from the guests, some other elders aside from the first 3 came in and sat all the way to the side on their own little desk, similar yet bigger than the one on the first lab.
From what Palkus could see, there were 2 elders who were higher ranked than the one who supervised him first; both of them were EX-rank alchemists with 4 stars.
When the guests had finished entering the room, the first elder got up and looked at the guests.
"Welcome, dear guests, to our grand test. This time's participant is Palkus, a young goman who had come to take on our alchemy badge and managed to surprise us beyond belief with his unfathomable techniques. Please sit down in silence and watch the wonderful process that is going to play out." The elder welcomed.
Palkus' information was given to the elders because he had to give it when he wanted to participate; thus, it was normal for the elder to know.
"Young Palkus, you can start." The elder looked at the young man and said.
While he did say you can start, Palkus had nothing in front of him he could use, but, right when the elder sat down, a spacial trolley was brought by a receptionist.
The receptionist walked all the way to Palkus' table and put the trolley right next to its corner before he proceeded to go to the young man's side, open it, and take out a few recipes, ingredients, and the necessary tools before walking all the way to the side of the door.
Palkus looked at him and then at the ingredients in front of him before he looked at the elder.
The elder nodded as if to say, 'you can start', and Palkus did just that.
Right in front of 5 thousand guests, he used the same technique, the same spectacle the elders who had watched it once were mezmerized by once again, as nobody even understood when it began and when it ended before 3 potion bottles were right in front of the young alchemist.
"W- what was that?" A guest asked the man next to him, who had understood nothing just like him.
"I- I don't know, man. All I know is that it was fucking stunning." The man replied, his body movements expressing shock and confusion.
"Silence!" Such murmurs occurred all around the large lab until one elder got up to go assess the potions and shouted at the guests to calm down.
The elder then proceeded to go and take a single potion to analyze, and he looked back at his fellow alchemists.
"It's a perfect potion." He announced.
"Dear god." The S-rank alchemist female who was in the first lab put her hands on her mouth in shock.
"Haha, I knew it." The first elder softly murmured to himself, proud of finding a young prodigy.
"Check the other potions." The other EX-rank elder asked.
Palkus had made 3 E-rank potions: a strength potion, an agility potion, and a health potion.
"They're all perfect." After checking the other potions, the elder looked back and announced.
"Oh my god, I think we're witnessing the birth of a genius alchemist." One guest looked at those next to him in excitement as he spoke.
"Yeah, man, maybe even the next alchemy king." one confirmed.
"Don't joke around; you think becoming an alchemy king is a joke?" Another one laughed.
"You can continue, young man." The first elder's voice echoed out as the large lab turned silent once again.
The receptionist came once again to take the ingredients out of the storage and Palkus repeated the same process to make D-rank potions, giving him the exact same result—a perfect concoction.
After another round of surprise, Palkus proceeded to make perfect C-rank potions, and then B-rank potions, and then A-rank potions.
It was at this point that people started actually believing that he might have a chance at becoming the next alchemy king.
News somehow traveled outside the alchemy guild and droves of people came in requesting to watch the grand test, but they were refused once an elder took the matter at hand and came out to deal with the little ruckus outside.
When the elder came back, Palkus was in the process of forming perfect S-rank potions, and by the time he sat down, the young lad was done.
Even after all of the continuous tests, Palkus showed no sign of being tired at all, as if something like this was barely routine for him. However, the elders suggested that he take a break for half an hour.
After sitting down and contemplating for a bit, Palkus got up to finish the test.
