Chapter 33: True horror of the cosmos
Chapter 33: True horror of the cosmos
Eight days ago, when the cosmos made its announcement about the evolution of our solar system, there were people who thought that this was the end of the world; some thought this was the gift of our god given to us for the purpose of liberation; Some thought this was an opportunity to elevate their lives.
But the most prominent feeling that almost everyone felt at the moment was fear—fear of the unknown, fear that they were no longer on top of the food chain. Their illusion had broken, that they were all mighty among the universe, that they were unique... that they were irreplaceable.
The fear grew even more when they saw that they could die if they couldn't succeed in the quest that had been given to them. Seeing the consequences so close, Some lost their minds, some grew stronger, some prepared for what was about to come, and some just accepted their fate.
But to their surprise, the quest turned out to be so simple that they couldn't even believe they were afraid of it. After doing their job for twenty-four hours, everyone got a notification that they had completed the quest. For example, a doctor got the class of [Doctor] after 24 hours, a beggar got the class of [Beggar], a student got [Student], and if someone wasn't even able to get any of these, they got the [Earthling] class.
There were even instances where patients who were in comas got up from their sleep only for the purpose of choosing the class, and after choosing the class, they once again went back to sleep.
Even when all of them completed the quest, the quest was still on the status tab, saying that after completing the quest—personal—they could either wait six days to pass or accumulate more rewards by performing tasks.
This whole cosmic Evolution turned out to be so simple that they forgot the seriousness of this whole situation. People make memes on social media, news anchors get bonkers, making as much krispy news as they can for TRP.
After all, humans are very adaptable creatures. They began their normal routine, workers went to work, students went to school, and farmers went to the field. Everyone began living their lives as if nothing had happened.
They even forget to piece together why, when the quest itself is so simple, there is a six day delay. What these six days were meant to be. There were several clues that this is just the beginning and they shouldn't be this careless... For instance, the mention of the first main quest, meaning there were more to come, and the existence of cracks that were expanding at an alarming rate.
Days passed, and even the sixth day came and went without any developments. People's belief that nothing would happen grew stronger. They were convinced that another day would pass without incident. However, their world shattered when they received a notification about the second Quest...
[Main Quest #02- Survive the Onslaught]
And when the people read about the description of the second quest, a cold chill ran down their spines. They couldn't believe what they were looking at.
They tried to prepare as much as they could in the remaining three hours, but it was for naught as it had already been too late.
When the clock finally reached zero, they saw numerous pillars of light rising in the sky. Some of these pillars were close to them, while others were far away. Some had their starting points on the land, while for others, it was in the sea. There were even some that originated from points in the sky, indicating that there was no longer any safe place on Earth.
A second later, the white pillar of light extinguished, and then all hell broke loose.
In the basement of a long-forgotten warehouse, the cracks suddenly flickered to life. A few seconds later, a hand covered in black fur emerged from the crack. This hand, entirely covered in fur, had monstrously sharp fangs for fingers. And the owner of the hand wasn't alone – a dozen or more bears followed.
Using its sharp fangs, the creature tore apart the gate that had isolated the warehouse from the rest of the world. Like any living creature, it first reveled in the sunlight, which soothed its body. After feeling the warmth, it was time for food, and luck was on their side as there was no lack of prey nearby.
The moment their gazes met the flimsy, mundane human, they knew they were going to have a feast today. Sprinting with all its might, it mauled the head of a female. And Just like a melon,it was obliterated by the sheer force of the impact the moment its paws touched the female's head.
It scooped up a handful of meat and began to chew it in front of the crying boy, who had just lost his mother. The boy's cry didn't last long, as he also died a moment later by the same paw with which his mom had died.
All dozens of bears began to slaughter the humans and began feasting on their prey.
This was the case all over the world, where people were getting killed by beasts of all types. And even the sky wasn't spared from its wraith.
In the sky, from the crack, a swarm of monsters that resembled dragonflies came out.
They looked at their surroundings and were disappointed by the fact that there wasn't any prey near them. However, their disappointment didn't last long as one of them noticed a bird coming in its direction at a very high speed. Mistaking it for prey, they predicted its path of travel and got in its way to satisfy their hunger.
However, they were mistaken; it wasn't a bird, as they had assumed, but rather an airplane. Due to the plane's speed, before they could even get out of its way, they crashed into it, resulting in the deaths of all the dragonflies in the process. But the plane didn't escape unscathed either, as many dragonflies had crashed into its wings, destroying them in the process.
Due to the failure of both engines the plane crashed into a tower killing hundreds of individuals.
******
In a poorly lit hallway, a red glow comes from lights on the walls. This glow made strange moving shadows on the cold metal surfaces. The air felt heavy and tense because loud sirens were blaring non-stop. The loud noise from the sirens bounced off the plain walls, making a confusing mix of sounds all around.
"CODE RED!! I REPEAT, CODE RED. ALL PERSONALS QUICKLY GATHERS ON THE OUTER FIELD OF THE COMPOUND."
"CODE RED!! I REPEAT, CODE RED. ALL PERSONALS QUICKLY GATHERS ON THE OUTER FIELD OF THE COMPOUND.
"CODE RED!! I REPEAT, CODE RED. ALL PERSONALS QUICKLY GATHERS ON THE OUTER....."
A row of soldiers dressed in various uniforms began to sprint in the direction that led to the outer field. A sense of urgency hung all over their faces. They all seemed to know that something very horrible had happened.
In a matter of minutes, they arrived at the field, where people dressed in the same uniforms as them were already gathered. They were all facing the same direction where an old man with a long beard was standing...
The old man picks up the mic and begins to speak...
"... as you already know me, I don't like to waste anyone's time, so let's directly come to the matter. And from the looks of it, you already know about the situation... Am I right?!"
"YES SIR"
"YES SIR"
The sounds of "yes" echoed all around the field, making it even more potent than it already was.
"... that's what I like to hear. All I ask of you is to protect the venerable people of our country from the claws of these monsters. Do you want to protect them or not?" Magnus questions.
"YES WE WILL PROTECT THEM AT THE COST OF OUR LIFE" come the replies.
"...then we have nothing more to discuss. Go meet with your assigned captain, who has been assigned to you, and begin moving."
