Chapter 978 Son of Brood Mother

Chapter 978 Son of Brood Mother

Calis flipped backwards, dodging the wide arc attack. He landed on his feet and watched Son slowly straighten himself. He wiped his mouth and clicked his tongue.

"It seems like there's more 'monsters' around him than I," said Son. "What am I going to do…?" Calis narrowed his eyes and pointed his spear at Son. Son's face lit up. "I know! I'll just carve you into small pieces!" Son blasted forward, slashing forward. About halfway, Son could feel his head splitting. He stopped, letting out a sharp breath and reaching for his head.

Calis took this as his opening and moved forward, thrusting the spear straight into Son's chest. Son howled in agony as Calis pushed with all his might. Son tried to pull away, but its wielder didn't allow him to leave. Son howled in fury, letting gravity take over. Calis was repelled away with the spear flying past him.

Blood spilled across the floor as Son tried to gather himself. "I failed," Son whispered. "I need to retreat before…" He turned and disappeared, leaving Calis. Calis scrambled onto his feet and snapped his fingers.

"To me!" Calis called the spear. He sprinted after Son. He ignored the pain in his head and legs. He needed to keep after the Failed One.

Calis wandered deeper into the abandoned town. Streets blurred all around him with old buildings. He slowed to a stop, looking left and right for the Failed One. He moved past broken down cars left to time. Calis made it to the next four-way intersection, turning to look right first.

A blast of gravity energy flew out from above Calis, splintering and pushing Calis off his feet. Calis tumbled, catching himself and rolling off the ground onto his feet. He looked upwards and felt the next blast slam into him, sending him straight into a brick wall.

"I guess you aren't that sharp," said Son. Son landed on the ground on the opposite side of the street and started his walk towards Calis. He ignored the splitting pain in his head. He would devour the strange humanoid in front of him. "I'll rip you to pieces and enjoy you later… after I handle my little flesh vessel."

Son bared his teeth and jumped for Calis. Chains of darkness exploded from behind the rubble, latching onto Son. They pulled tightly in different directions, forcing Son into a tight position. Son screamed and yanked the chains away. Darkness and water pushed the bricks off Calis, flinging them straight for Son. Son froze them in place and swatted them away as Calis rushed forward with a spear in his hands.

"Not so fast." Son clicked his tongue and froze Calis and the spear. He lifted two fingers and watched Calis float up helplessly. Son cocked his head and licked his lips. "You thought that would work? Cute." Son widened his mouth and went for the jugular. Calis's body exploded into water, surrounding Son in an instant.

"Tempted Waters." Calis said. He pushed himself out of the bricks and stood up. "Seems like you even fall for stuff like this." Son closed his mouth and glared at Calis with his dagger eyes. The waters started to shake and Calis quickly tightened his hand. Blasts of gravity made the water bounce outwards before snapping back into place. Calis weaved his fingers together creating an X with eight of his fingers while keeping his thumbs bent. "Juri Clan Technique: 1000 Needles."

Dark needles flew into the water bubble, piercing Son in different places. Air escaped Son's mouth, bubbling to the top of the enclosure. Calis snapped his fingers and conjured the spear. He raised the spear and plunged it into Son. The spear-tip broke the water, causing just enough of an opening for Son to retaliate.

The entire building exploded as Son broke himself free of Calis's prison. He dropped to his knees, barely floating above the bricks beneath him as dust, stone and glass rained around him. Son's energy swirled as he clutched his head. The puncture wounds slowly closed and the splitting headache started to disappear.

"Die." Son whispered. Everything around Son exploded. The ground ripped apart, grew uneven and created sinkholes. Celestial fire rained down as explosions took the buildings all around him. He thrusted his hand outwards and pulled Calis out from beneath the rubble. "I shouldn't have toyed with you. I shouldn't have toyed with any of you. I should end things and bring him to Mother. She would be proud if I had his lifeless body with me… But you! You're a thorn in my side! I'll make sure to give you just that!"

Calis screamed as his body cracked. His arm cracked in a million different places. Son had destroyed him just like that. Another arm broke and Calis's face twisted into pure pain. He tried to muffle his cries as Son's face grew in delight.

"You look better like that." Son complimented Calis. "Pain suits you well. It's a shame you angered me. Now die."

Something drew Son's attention away from Calis. For a moment, he could feel his splitting headache come back and disappear as if something was manipulating it. A golden energy arced across the sky, straight for Son. Son immediately went to deflect it and watched as the light exploded, blinding him.

Lee Seng grabbed Calis and disappeared. "Here, take him." He gave Calis to Ritsuka and Evan. He drew multiple runes and gently pushed it into Calis's chest. Gold and silver covered Calis as he turned his attention to the broken town. A blast of dark energy flew outwards and in an instant, Lee Seng was deflecting it with his sword. The energy slammed to the side and Lee Seng took off.

"You wanted to kill me with a cheap trick?" Lee Seng asked, loudly. "Well, here am I. Alive and well." He slowed to a stop, standing on two lopsided pieces of earth. "Come and try to get yourself back. I wonder how you'll do."

Son screamed and disappeared. He reappeared grabbing darkness and swinging a blackened sword at Lee Seng. Gold and black collided, shaking the space as they pushed on one another. Son forced Lee Seng backward with a single gravity push, watching him flip in the air and land on the ground.

Son slashed three times, releasing gravity strikes before disappearing. Lee Seng slashed horizontally, releasing thousands of butterflies. They screeched and disappeared with the gravity slashes. Lee Seng scrawled a rune as Son reappeared, swinging his blade straight for Lee Seng's shoulder. Lee Seng raised his blade and blocked. He pushed Son away this time, going for Son's legs.

Son reinforced his legs, listening to Lee Seng's blade shake as he swung his attack. "I got you now!" The rune lit up, producing a shield and blocking the attack. Lee Seng pulled his sword and jumped backwards, giving himself more space. Son blinked, jabbing his sword as the space warped around him.

'The moves are changing now.' Lee Seng observed. He pushed his blade right onto the side and pushed it away, allowing the blade to hit a part of his armor on his left arm. Sparks flew as the black sword distorted. The blade pierced Lee Seng's right side. Son pushed the blade deeper causing Lee Seng to groan in pain. He swung his blade at Son, forcing Son to retreat.

"How's that?" Son asked Lee Seng. "It looks like you didn't even see that one coming. My powers are more than just manipulating gravity. I can manipulate the space and hit spots you didn't even bother thinking about. I wonder how you'll do since I have this sword and you don't. With my weapon and my strong body, I'm unstoppable."

Lee Seng reached for his wound and healed it while keeping an eye on Son. 'Man, why does someone who looks basically like me have to have a bad personality like that? I'm nowhere as bad as that!' He lifted his sword up and rested it on his shoulder.

"I can't wait to see Mother's face when I show her your lifeless body. No one will be able to stop us then!" Son cackled.

"You're saying I can stop you, then?" Lee Seng asked. Son's smile faded.

"I didn't say that! No one can stop us, ever! You can't even do that!" Son ran at Lee Seng without any tricks. He lifted his sword and swung at Lee Seng. Lee Seng let out a ball of light, blinding Son and lighting the night. Son screamed as he went to cover his eyes. Lee Seng rushed forward, pushing his speed to the highest its ever been. He slashed at Son's side, setting him ablaze.

Son's screams filled the air as Lee Seng turned and went in for the kill. A barrier flew up around Son, stopping Lee Seng from piercing Son's heart. The pressure pushed downwards, cracking the ground all around them.

"Who dares attempt to kill my precious son?" Brood Mother's voice called from the darkness. Dark red smoke oozed from the barrier and quickly pushed outwards. Lee Seng was instantly repelled into debris. The red smoke formed over Son and Brood Mother appeared. "Who dares touch my precious son?!?"
