Chapter 31: New Avatar
Chapter 31: New Avatar
"Don't tell me that I need the doll to get to the Beginner's Village?" Raven asked. He rolled his eyes lightly.
The lifeless girl nodded in response.
Although her face remained blank, her responses gave the impression that she was a naive child who could only communicate through simple gestures like walking and pointing.
"I can't touch that until I know what becoming an Avatar means, especially not after offending that Demon. If it means I'll become a puppet like you, then I don't want to enter the Novice Village."
Raven only shook his head in response. "If you have any other method, then please be my guest.
Even though he had no method of himself, he wasn't interested in giving up his freedom.
As he spoke, multiple notifications about the Demon General's emotions kept popping up before him. However, he only ignored them.
However, there was one notification which attracted his attention.
[The Demon General of Puppetry is furious and irritated at your ignorance and misunderstanding]
"Huh?" That notification made him feel slightly confused. "My misunderstanding?"
"Is it about the meaning of Avatar?" Raven asked, raising his head.
[The Demon General of Puppetry is stunned. He doesn't understand why you were able to read his thoughts]
[The Demon General of Puppetry is wondering if you can actually listen to him]
[Demon General of Puppetry grows more curious about your identity]
"I can listen to you. So tell me what is the thing about becoming your Avatar?"
Under usual circumstances, Raven would've preferred to not reveal that he could listen to the Demon General's thoughts. However, now he needed answers.
[Demon General of Puppetry is speaking something]
Unfortunately for Raven, he could only get a vague notification but not hear what the Demon General was speaking.
"And, we're back to square one..."
Raven picked up another pebble and tossed it into the distant sea, watching the strange creatures come out again.
"It feels like I'm in a prison, while everyone that passed the Bloodline Trials had already started in the Novice Village..."
Talking to himself, he kept tossing the pebbles on the sea, as if that was the only thing which could distract him to some extent.
Next to him, the puppet girl only watched him with great intrigue, not understanding his actions.
One day passed away, and Raven still hadn't found a way. The Floating Island was still far away, way beyond his reach.
Occasionally, he could see some people flying around the Floating Island. He tried to call those people, none of them even noticed him. It was as if the Forest was a place that they couldn't even see.
"Alright. I've had enough! I'll check it out!" Raven stood up, as if he had enough of waiting.
There was nothing in this forest! No one was coming to help him. He couldn't stay here all his life. It was better to take the risk than just wait for his death here.
He decided to finally put his faith in the notifications and see just what the so-called Misunderstanding was.
Along with Raven, the girl also stood up. She walked next to him. There was still no expression on her face. Her eyes were just as lifeless.
However, for some reason Raven felt as if he noticed a trace of happiness in those eyes. It was only for a short moment and he wasn't even sure if it was just his misconception.
The two people walked back to the center of the Strange Forest, where the mysterious doll was still floating in the air.
[The Demon General of Puppetry is pleased]
[The Demon General of Puppetry is eagerly waiting]
Raven didn't just blindly go for the doll. Instead, he also pulled out the Nameless Sword.
He had no intentions of trusting the doll. If something actually went wrong, he was fully intending on cutting the sword in two halves.
As he reached near the floating doll, he was able to see many thin Illusory threads, connected to the doll, as if they were Puppetry strings which were keeping the small doll in its place. Raven wasn't able to touch those threads.
He stopped merely half a meter away from the floating doll and reached out his hand to touch the doll. In his other hand, he held his sword tightly, ready for anything.
His fingers gently touched the floating doll. But strangely enough, nothing happened. He waited for a few seconds but there was nothing.
"Was that all?" He frowned. However right then, he saw the doll suddenly open its eyes.
A screen appeared before Raven.
[You've discovered a Legendary Rank Bloodline, Puppet Master]
[Would you like to accept the Bloodline?]
[Yes/No]
"Bloodline? So becoming an Avatar meant accepting his Bloodline?" Raven frowned, slapping his forehead.
He couldn't believe that this was all there was to it! The reason the Demon General of Puppetry was greedy to make him touch the doll was because he wanted him to inherit the Bloodline?
Usually, Raven wouldn't have accepted this Bloodline since it was on the darker side. Also, for any ordinary person, accepting a new Bloodline could only be achieved by erasing the previous Bloodline.
There was no way he would've erased a mythical rank bloodline for a Legendary Rank. However, he didn't have to worry about that, since he could equip more Bloodlines than one!
Moreover, this Bloodline was supposed to help him get out of this godforsaken Island!
Raven thought it over and decided to accept the Bloodline. He closed his eyes and concentrated on merging it with his existing Bloodlines.
As the Bloodline was assimilated, he felt the power coursing through his veins. However, this power was concentrated separately from his Original Bloodline, as if the Puppet Master Bloodline was scared to get close to his Forbidden Heir bloodline.
[You've accepted a New Bloodline]
[New Benefits are Available]
[Would you like to Create a new Player Avatar, that can be freely switched back and forth with the Original as needed?]
"Another Player Avatar?"
