Shu Hanyu shot the young snakes a glare, unwillingly passing the bag in his hands over to Shu Jintian.
Shu Jintian smiled at Shu Hanyu, his cold-reddened hand holding the bag filled with fishes, while his other hand picked up an ice cube-like little fish, and he took a deep breath.
Looking at the snakelets bright eyes, Shu Jintian gritted his teeth and held his breath before sticking his hand out.
The hissing in the cave suddenly became even livelier as the young snakes raised their heads. Half their bodies were already sticking out of the nest like young birds fighting for food, their mouths all opened wide as they waited for their female father to feed them.
Shu Jintians hand holding the fish couldnt help but tremble, nearly dropping it to the ground. But looking at the nestful of extremely expectant little snakes, Shu Jintian could not harden his heart and give up, so he summoned his courage and brought the fish closer.
The snakelets in the nest were even more energetic, each doing their best to lean outwards so that they would be the one chosen by their female father. With the unbalanced weight, the snake nest tilted slightly so that the backend was higher than the front. Seeing this would make onlookers feel worried that the snake nest would flip over and trap the little snakes inside.
Shu Jintian was afraid that these little snakes would overturn the snake nest, so he hastily carried the fish over.
Ah! His hand abruptly bumped into the blur of an emerald green snake, and Shu Jintian cried out in surprise.
Without waiting for Shu Jintian to extend the fish over to the closest snakes mouth, a little snake that was further away suddenly popped up and bit the fish in Shu Jintians hands. Even its soft and ice-cold snake tongue intimately stuck to his hand before swiftly pulling back. However, this snakelets action of snatching food was rather forceful, making Shu Jintian feel like he had been struck.
Tiantian! Dont be scared. Shu Hanyu wrapped an arm around Shu Jintians shoulders and placatingly tugged him into his embrace. These snakelets truly were too audacious; they even dared to bully Tiantian like this even when he was here.
Shu Hanyu gave the pile of snakes a warning glare, but there was a hard-to-conceal pride in his eyes. Sure enough, Tiantian still liked him the best, and even the little snakes could not threaten his status.
The snakelets were threatened by male father and learnt their place, obediently waiting for their fathers to continue feeding them. Meanwhile, the snakelet that had snatched female fathers fish opened its mouth wide and gobbled up the entire fish, slowly gulping it down. Its movements were graceful, like it was showing off. After swallowing the fish into its belly, its eyes even provocatively swept over each of the snakelets, attracting all sorts of envious and jealous gazes.
The remaining snakelets looked at their female father expectantly, hoping that their female father would quickly feed them.
But Shu Jintian was frightened by the first snakelets fierce table manners. He rubbed his hands with some lingering fear, no longer intending to feed them anymore.
There were still remnants of the feeling of being forcefully struck on his hand. It wasnt extremely strong, but the snakelet was too swift and snatched the fish very suddenly; it couldnt help but give Shu Jintians heart a fright.
Hanyu, its still better that you do it ba. My hand is cold, Shu Jintian said to Shu Hanyu uneasily, using his hand becoming cold as a reason to reject feeding them.
Shu Hanyu smiled in satisfaction, his head coming closer to lightly rub against Shu Jintians face before kindly saying, Alright, Tiantian go and eat ba. Itll get cold if left there for too long, so just leave this side to me.
With the excessively cold weather, one would feel sleepy after eating their fill. Shu Jintian had eaten and drank to fullness, laying contently on the bed to digest his food. It didnt take long for him to fall asleep in a daze. Shu Hanyu cleaned up the cave, and also got into the bed.
Shu Hanyu hugged Shu Jintian over the covers, narrowing his eyes and dozing off. How sleepy. Hugging Tiantian is really nice to sleep. It would be better if there wasnt this layer of animal hide.
Many species would have an exceptionally vigorous spirit when they were young. With no one watching over the baby snakes in the nest, they became lively and active after they laid down and digested their food. They twisted their bodies one after another, restlessly scuttling here and there in the nest. The small nest was shaken by a pile of little snakes moving about.
Soon, the recently hatched snakelets were no longer satisfied with such a small nest, and their gazes moved towards the wider center of the cave.
They really wanted to go out and look, but the snakelets were also a little timid due to the tyrannical abuse of their male father. After a cautious look at the firmly covered bed, they probingly stretched a section of their body before cowardly withdrawing it. The baby snakes hesitantly dithered, then placed their hopes on their siblings beside them, waiting for one of them to be the first to explore.
The only snakelet that had snatched female fathers feeding yawned and extended its body to make a large stretch, casting an aloof gaze towards its siblings before openly crawling out.
The snakelet nest quieted down for a time, each holding their breaths while nervously looking at the snakelet taking the lead.
At this time, the sound of the baby snakes body gliding over the animal hide was clear and audible. The snakelets emerald green and slender body slid down the snake nest and haughtily roved around the floor. There wasnt a single movement from the bed they watched fearfully.
Only then did the other snakelets in the nest frantically pour out. The ten snakelets climbed to the edge of the snake nest together, nearly overturning the snake nest built on top of a shell.
Once the snakelets tails left the nest, the shell that was pushed down on one side slammed onto the ground with a bang.
The sleeping Shu Jintian opened his eyes a slit, then sleepily closed them. He seemed to have heard something in the cave ah; was he dreaming? Forget it, in any case, big snake was here so he didnt have to be scared of thieves.
The snakelets that crawled out of the small nest were unbearably excited, their soft and immature bodies oscillating as they crawled all over the ground.
Huh? Whats this? A young snake lifted up the lid of something it didnt know with its head, and saw a pot of shining white salt.
Its like the nest they slept in ah, but whats inside? The snakelet curiously crawled halfway in, the feeling of the white granules sticking to its skin was a little itchy. The snakelet didnt really care, and stuck its tongue out to lick.
Ssss~ Ka ka~ the snakelet opened its mouth wide and repeatedly stuck its tongue out. There was a strangeness in its mouth, and it let out a sound similar to a cough.
What is this? How gross! The snakelet felt as if it was in hell; the salty and bitter thing dissolved in its mouth and the taste couldnt be removed no matter what.
The aloof baby snake instantly lost its pretentious loftiness, flipping over to reveal its white belly and falling down. It took a good while before it slowly recovered from the strange thing it choked on.
The baby snake looked left and right. Seeing that none of the other snakes noticed it, it let out a sigh of relief and its listless snake body gathered its vigour, swaying off to find something else to play with.
In the innermost corner of the cave, there was a large animal hide bundled up. The snakelet curiously looked over, thinking to itself that there must be many things inside. The snakelet that had suffered from its actions did not learn its lesson and animatedly rushed over, squeezing in through the gap of the animal hide.
Mn! Sure enough, there are many things! The snakelet was immensely pleased with its foresight.
There were strips of things in the bundle, and there were many layers below. These things were all very soft, and very suitable for it to hide inside!
The snakelet attempted to wriggle its entire body into the layer of things, only leaving its head sticking outside the edge of the bundle. In the dark corner, one could faintly see a pair of glowing dots.
With an even larger activity area, the snakelets were evidently very excited. The floor was covered with green and delicate snakelets curiously looking around. Some were in the corners, and some were in the spacious area of the cave. The snakelets were curled, or straight, and there were some that had flipped over to show their white bellies, playing joyfully.
Since Shu Jintian drank a lot of soup, he didnt sleep for long before he woke up from his urge to pee. After struggling between his needs and the inside of the warm bed, Shu Jintian finally couldnt help but want to get up.
Shu Hanyu, who had always been holding Shu Jintian while sleeping, instantly opened his eyes. Seeing that Shu Jintian was still here, he let out an imperceptible sigh of relief and returned to his languid state, gently rubbing against Shu Jintian.
Shu Jintian dragged his clothes into the blankets, putting it on while telling Shu Hanyu, I want to use the restroom. You go to sleep, theres no need to get up. Ill be back very soon.
Shu Hanyu said worriedly, I should go with you ba. Its dangerous outside.
Shu Jintian rolled his eyes and speechlessly said, Im just taking a leak outside the cave, and Ill be back very soon. Moreover, its so close that you can hear me if I just give a shout. Dont underestimate me either; Im also capable of self-defence.
Shu Hanyu was sleepy, and it didnt take long before a misty light covered his eyes; he really wanted to sleep. Hearing Shu Jintian say this, he was a little hesitant.
You sure?! Tiantian isnt scared?
Eh! When did laozi say he was afraid of going out? Wasnt it you who always locked me up?
Mn! Im not scared! Shu Jintian forced himself to endure his itch to scratch someone, then squeezed this sentence out.
Enough, you dont come out and sleep well. Ill be back before you know Im gone. As Shu Jintian spoke, he finally wore all his clothes and lowered his head to kiss Shu Hanyus cool lips, getting up to raise the curtains and leave.
Fine ba, he should trust Tiantian!
Mn, Ill wait for you. Shu Hanyu nodded.
Shu Hanyu laid in bed, but lost his past sleepiness. He counted his heartbeats while waiting for his female. Tiantian wont leave him, hell return very soon.
Shu Hanyu pricked his ears, chasing the females footsteps. Suddenly, he sensed Shu Jintians footsteps pause, and Shu Hanyu raised his guard.
He hasnt reached the entrance ah, what happened to Tiantian? Does he want to do something? Shu Hanyu drew his body taut, preparing to rush out and grab him at any time.
Shu Jintians sleepy eyes were blurred, and he walked out of the cave with heavy-lidded eyes. He suddenly felt a strange mood in the cave, and curiously looked.
With this glance, Shu Jintians soul nearly flew away. His body stiffened, and his single raised leg paused midair.
He saw complete disorder in the cave. The tidily placed animal hide was a mess, and the lid covering the large salt pot was also pushed to the side, and the sun-dried seaweed had been scattered all over the floor.
These werent the main points; most importantly, what was going on with the floor messily crawling with the snakes? Moreover, they each turned their heads and stared at him blankly. These baby snakes seemed to have played with various things in the cave, so much that there was even a snake head poking out of the dried seaweed.
Female father! Female father came out! The baby snakes were first stupefied, then a burning radiance appeared in their eyes as they closely stared at their female father.
Shu Jintians body stiffened, and goosebumps rose all over from being stared at by a crowd of baby snakes, a chill running up his back. He didnt even know how to put down his raised leg, because there just so happened to be a little snake curled in a poop-shape below his feet, its head highly raised at the center as if waiting for him to step down. With the floor of snakes, he truly was a lucky bastard by not stepping on any of them.
Two sides confronted each other, and the snakelets were the first to return to their spirits, suddenly rushing over to Shu Jintian.
AH~! Shu Jintian shuddered and screamed. His raised leg directly stepped over the little snake below him and he ran towards the exit on his tiptoes, his hands and feet doing all they could to crawl out of the cave.
