Chapter 2: Python
Chapter 2: Python
The Spiritual Snake beastman was the rarest breed in the beastman continent. This was because they were cold-blooded animals. Apart from their lifelong mate, they spared no affection for even their closest relative. As such, they had always been solitary beings before meeting their mate.
And then there was the reproduction of Spiritual Snakes, which was also different from other breeds of beastmen.
They were oviparous and a single brood could have seven to eight eggs, or perhaps even fifteen or sixteen. In addition, their sperm had a long lifespan and could survive in a females body for a decade or more. Even if it copulated only once, the female could still give birth several times.
In the past, there was a female who, after being forcefully mated, was saved by their clansmen. After that, even though the female had never copulated with a Spiritual Snake ever again, they still continued to give birth to snake eggs for eleven years. Those snake eggs were promptly discarded right after they were birthed, and it was still the Spiritual Snake who had gathered the eggs and incubated them.
It was reasonable to say that with such a powerful reproduction capability, the number of Spiritual Snake beasts should have been tremendous. However, in reality, it was the precise opposite, and Spiritual Snake beasts were the rarest beastmen.
Possibly because when things reached an extreme, it could only move in the opposite direction. With such a heaven-defying reproduction capability, their progeny numbers may be many, but they were just snakes without intellect, and could not turn into humans. Those who could genuinely turn into beastmen were one in a thousand. In the present beastman continent, the existing Spiritual Snake beasts were no more than a hundred.
Moreover, Spiritual Snake beasts solitary life resulted in them having fewer ways to find their mate. Most of them were like other drifting beasts, depending on their strength to snatch females.
However, their possession of females was just an inherited memory to do so without much thought of continuing their species. Young snakes would be discarded by their male father after they reached one month old and simply couldnt learn that much from them. Moreover, they had a special inherited memory that allowed them to survive leisurely in this beastman continent.
The dark green python was a young Spiritual Snake beast. He had grown to adulthood not long ago and still hadnt managed to snatch a female home when the Heavens arranged a beautiful female for him.
The Spiritual Snake dragged Shu Jintian back to his cave and placed him in the nest he usually slept in. He curiously sized up this strange female.
Short, black hair, like a furball; it was very unique and completely different from all the beastmen and females he had met. His skin was very fair and delicate. Even though he wasnt as fair as the Spiritual Snake beasts, he was much more beautiful than the other females he had seen.
Shu Jintians lips were plump and scarlet red. Even if he had passed out from his loss of strength, his lips were still a brilliant shade of red. There was once a girl who was kissing ass and had praised his lips as more beautiful than when women applied lipstick, which made people envious.
The Spiritual Snake looked and looked, and his gaze slowly focused on Shu Jintians mouth. Hissing, it spat out its forked tongue and touched it, sounding it out.
Nice and warm, how pleasant.
The Spiritual Snake beasts eyes brightened, and its green eyes gleamed and sparkled. Its massive head came forward and it lapped at the female he had tightly wrapped around. Its slender forked tongue stuck against the seam of the females lips, nimbly threading its way in
Shu Jintian found it a little hard to breathe and his chest was unbearably stifled. He opened his mouth wide and tried his best to breathe but couldnt find much relief.
The heck, he couldnt even be comfortable even when passed out.
Before he opened his eyelids, Shu Jintians brain began to work cautiously and conscientiously. He recalled that he had killed a beast but fell unconscious before he could dispose of it, and felt a burst of lingering fear. He wasnt bitten to death by other beasts, he was really a lucky bastard.
However, he never imagined that right after he opened his eyes, he wouldve considered himself lucky if he had actually been bitten to death. Motherfucker, what was going on with this python wrapping itself around his entire body?
Currently, he only wished to pass out once more.
However, his overly healthy body couldnt even satisfy its owners tiny request.
Even if he was trapped in a dire situation and was naturally afraid of reptiles, Shu Jintian couldnt help secretly praising it as beautiful.
The snake head less than a meter away from him was dark green all over. The scales on its skin glimmered and its solid texture was visible. The snake head was in the shape of a water drop and would occasionally flick out its forked tongue, exposing two scarily white fangs. Its eyes were large and round, and the irises were emerald green like a plant. The dark green had irregular horizontal stripes in between, but the decorative patterns were beautiful and went well with the colour of its irises.
Its eyes were gleaming, as if saturated in a layer of crystal. It was so glistening that it reflected his current terrified appearance.
Shu Jintian internally thought, Im done for, Im really screwed this time. Pythons would swallow their prey and slowly digest it in their stomach. Just the thought of dying by that method caused him to shudder with fear.
Shu Jintian rationally considered whether he should stab himself before the python moved its mouth.
The snake body winding around himself tightened and the snake head came even closer to his face. It was so close he could distinctly feel the airflow hitting his face with each inhale and exhale of the python, causing the skin on his face to tighten uncontrollably.
But what made him surprised was that there wasnt the stinky odour he had imagined; on the contrary, it was faintly refreshing.
In the wake of the pythons coiling getting tighter, Shu Jintian thought to himself, its here. One of his hands secretly shifted with the intention of finding his dagger.
Perhaps he could still have an opportunity to live if he aimed to behead it. If he couldnt dispatch the snake, he could still dispatch himself.
Shu Jintians mental abacus clicked back and forth, but he never thought that right before he fainted, the dagger he stuck at his waist had completely disappeared.
Unresigned, he searched again, and still couldnt find it.
Out of the corner of his eyes, he saw a familiar colour; it was the clothes he had taken off.
And the dagger that should have been at his waist was neatly arranged next to his clothes.
???
What was going on? If it just wanted to eat him, why would it still bring back his clothes and even remove his weapon? It wasnt a savage.
Shu Jintian was suspicious and looked at the python in fear.
The Spiritual Snake was in a very good mood, and its body wound around Shu Jintian did a very minor stretch.
Shu Jintian only felt the snake body around him tighten, forcing his breathing to become unsteady.
Was it about to start? No, he didnt want to die so painfully!
Seeing that the female was turning red in the face, the Spiritual Snake belatedly realised what was happening and loosened his strength. It apologetically watched as the female lost his support and fell on the floor gasping heavily.
Due to his guilt, the Spiritual Snake bit and brought over the prey the female had killed by himself, and threw it before Shu Jintian.
Shu Jintian lowered his head and panted deeply, but his brain was turning nonstop.
What was going on? Did it suddenly not feel hungry and want to leave him for supper, or for tomorrows breakfast?
Before he could figure out the reason why, a mangled beast corpse was tossed before him. A sharp, fishy, and bloody scent assailed his nose and Shu Jintian couldnt help holding his breath.
He looked distrustfully at the python that had slithered back to him, unable to understand its intention.
Did it want to place its prey in the same place for more convenient storage?
Or was it for him to eat?
Possibly because his intuition sensed that it had no killing intent towards him, such a thought emerged in Shu Jintians mind. This python was giving him food!
Shu Jintian cleared his throat and suppressed his terrified heartbeat to speak in question, Hey! Snake-xiong, is this for me?
But there was a quivering note; even he couldnt lie to himself.
The Spiritual Snake tilted its head. What language was this? Why had it never heard it before? Even with its inherited memory, there was no such unusual method of emitting sounds.
The Spiritual Snake used its large head and nudged the prey on the floor, using its eyes to indicate for Shu Jintian to eat.
Sure enough!
It saw that it had too many prey and wouldnt be able to finish it in one go. A killed prey wouldnt remain fresh after being left there for long, so it directly used its corpse to feed the living prey.
When it became hungry, it would be time for his life to end.
With this sort of understanding, Shu Jintian repeatedly pushed the beast corpse aside, shaking his head to imply that he wasnt hungry.
Hehe, thanks, but I dont eat meat. You should eat it yourself.
Best if it eats till its about to burst, and give him more time to flee.
Did it not suit his taste? Its inherited memory may have many useful things, but it wasnt like it could remember everything.
Regarding what flavour of meat a female liked to eat, this Spiritual Snake wasnt quite sure about it.
Looking up and down the females figure, though his muscles were well-proportioned and healthy, his size was dainty and delicate, even more so than the other few females he had occasionally seen.
However, could such a small body withstand him?
Its green irises gleamed, and it measured up Shu Jintians body.
If he was fed more food, would he be able to grow a little bigger?
Shu Jintian felt his hairs rise from head to toe, feeling as if he was a slab of meat on a cutting board and the butcher was selecting a place to chop up. Oh no, its to swallow up!
Shu Jintian vigilantly looked at the Spiritual Snake. His hands may be tied but he couldnt just peacefully wait for death with an easy heart.
But unexpectedly, the python that had kept staring at him opened its mouth. Not to swallow him up, but to bite the already-dead beast on the floor and slowly gulp it down.
The beast corpse was in the snakes belly and its outline was faintly visible. As the python swallowed it down, the beast faintly bulged out the snakes belly and gradually traveled downwards all the way to its midsection.
Shu Jintian looked at the scene before him and couldnt help imagining whether he would be wholly swallowed like this when he was eaten and slowly head downwards as well. He might be able to struggle in its stomach and stab at the snakes belly skin
Shu Jintian was too absorbed in his visualisation and went on a mental journey to the heavens. Up until the python rewound itself around him and he was abruptly jolted awake.
Ah! What are you doing?
Havent had your fill?
Shu Jintians heart was beating rapidly and the image formed in his mind seemed to be truly blossoming before his eyes. Shu Jintian started struggling incessantly out of fear!
The Spiritual Snake frowned, displeased. Disobedient female, ought to be punished!
Coiling around the females body, it gradually tightened. Only when there was no longer any room for the female to struggle at all did it no longer pay attention to him and raised its head, slithering out of its snake nest.
He should find something to eat for the female. With food, he should probably become obedient ba!
Baobao Notes
Jintian doesnt know that the snake is like, a beastman (or what a beastman is), so he refers to the snake as it, while the snake refers to himself as he. But the author uses ways to avoid using pronouns that I cant with proper English grammar, so sometimes I just wing the pronouns.
Ruru: Aww, its a young snake beastman
