Basketball System: Rebound of the Underdog

Chapter 105 Something Kai Sucks At

"What took you so long?" Officer Huang asked, looking at his precious daughter.

"Yuze treated us to some pizza," Lina excitedly said. "We won the game, Dad! We won against those noisy and pesky Dolphins."

Officer Huang's eyebrows raised in surprise. "Really? That's great! This is the first time your team has been able to beat them, right?"

Lina nodded excitedly.

Honestly, Officer Huang had bought two small cakes in advance. He knew that his precious daughter loved basketball a lot, and she took first games very seriously. Once he heard that they were going against the Dolphins for first next game, he made a cake that said, 'The Loser Bracket isn't too bad!'

Fortunately, he also prepared a cake to celebrate their victory. He would just hide the first cake he had prepared!

However, his eyes narrowed in suspicion once he internalized Lina's first statement. "Were you the only girl again?"

Lina sighed and shook her head. "They're good people, Dad! I wouldn't have stayed with them for so long if that wasn't the case."

Officer Huang clicked his tongue. "Can't I be worried for my one and only princess? I'm afraid you're going to get a boyfriend so soon."

"Don't worry, Dad," Lina said. "I'll stay with you even if I get a boyfriend."

Officer Huang shook his head. "And here I thought you were going to promise that you aren't going to have a boyfriend."

"Well, at one point, I probably will, right? I just have to find someone who will accept me for who I am," she muttered.

Then, her eyes widened when she realized she was freely conversing with her dad when Kai was still here!

"Oh, by the way, someone accompanied me home—"

She quickly halted when she saw that Kai wasn't by her side anymore.

Officer Huang also glanced to the side, only seeing an empty street.

"When did he leave?" she whispered.

"What were you saying, sweetie?" Officer Huang asked.

Lina shook her head. "Nothing," she said. "I'm just really happy that we won!"

Meanwhile, Kai sighed in relief once he was out of their street, feeling like he could now breathe easier.

At first, he didn't know how to react when he saw Officer Huang. To be fair, the only times they've met were during his first day in Kai Guo's body and when he delivered onions to their house.

However, with those two interactions, it seemed like Officer Huang already despised his existence. Kai Guo, the one who originally owned the body, must have done a lot of mischievous things for that to happen.

Therefore, Kai felt that he couldn't face Officer Huang as Lina's father. How could a scraggly man even give birth to such a pretty girl? She must have taken after her mom.

Kai continued to walk, following the signs that led him to their street. It was a longer route, especially since Kai didn't want to pass by the red district anymore, so Kai took his time to look around the gorgeous scenery.

Just then, he came across a semi-large school, making him halt in his spot. He also heard the sound of heavy marching, so he walked closer to the scene.

There was a wired fence that separated him from the team of boys clad in gold jerseys, but that didn't stop him from observing what they were doing.

Then, he squinted his eyes to get a better look at the team name on the back of their jerseys. Because of the distance, he couldn't make out the words. However, there was a star at the very end of the last letter, making him tilt his head to the side.

Then, he stepped back to look at the signage above him.

"Xing Academy," he muttered.

"The Xing Stars!" he softly said, realizing that this was the team they were going to play with next Saturday.

With that, he went closer to the fence once again and even held onto it. He squished his body closer to the fence to get an even closer look.

Strangely, he couldn't recognize anyone from their team. In fact, he didn't notice their team that much during the opening ceremony. Yuze must have been right when he said that the Xing Stars didn't have any star players. Instead, they were a team filled with people who had great foundations.

"They're training this late at night?" Kai asked, finding it admirable that they were still in their school despite it being a weekend. Moreover, they had just finished a game! Were these guys robots or something like that?

Then, they started doing something that strengthened Kai's belief.

"One, two! One, two!" their leader exclaimed.

Kai's eyes widened in surprise when he saw the team walking in synchronized fashion.

"What kind of military training is this?" he muttered.

"I hate P.E. class," Bao muttered as they got changed into their P.E. attire.

Kai sighed and placed on his pants. Bao couldn't help but notice the tag that was sticking out of Kai's underwear, and he wondered if he should place it back in. However, it would be too awkward to touch a homie's backside.

Therefore, he just let it be. However, when Kai bent forward to place on his pants, he saw the words, 'Size XL,' written in bold font on the tag, making him let out a small gasp.

Then, when Kai turned around after getting dressed, Bao placed his hand on one of his shoulders and gave him a vigorous tap.

"Good for you, bro. Good for you," he said.

Kai frowned in confusion.

"What are you talking about?" Kai asked.

Bao shook his head. "Nothing! I just hope you live a great life."

Kai was still confused, but he decided to brush it off.

"Okay," he muttered. "What were you saying before that again?"

"Huh?" Bao asked. "Oh! I was just ranting about how P.E. class sucks."

Kai nodded in agreement.

"Yeah," he sighed, causing Bao and some of the others who heard their conversation to turn to him with raised eyebrows.

"You, of all people, hate P.E.?" Bao asked in surprise.

"Yeah," Kai confirmed. As much as he wanted to participate in sports and physical activities in his past life, he was never granted the opportunity to do so. During team plays, he would always be picked last. In the end, his grade in P.E. was the worst, making him resent it even more.

Moreover, as much as he liked basketball, he didn't like other sports.

"I suck at P.E.," Kai admitted.
