Chapter 110: Having a Feast!
When he noticed Xie Yang looking at him with an accusing gaze that seemed to be telling him to lie less, Xie Tong's eyebrow raised, the eye below his other brow narrowed, and one side of his lips stretched back.
"What? You don't believe me?"
While throwing out these words at Xie Yang, Xie Tong came to a sudden halt and turned to the one-month-old couple.
Although he was doing nothing and only standing before them, under his gaze, Lin Hua subconsciously felt pressured, but Xie Yang felt nothing.
Xie Tong had killed so much that his every move gave off an intense feeling.
If you were conscious of it but decided to ignore it, you would feel nothing.
However, if you acknowledge it, even if you do it subconsciously, you'll feel it acting on you.
Xie Yang grabbed Lin Hua's hand and gave it a few gentle squeezes, telling her with his actions that his eldest brother didn't mean any harm to them. Lin Hua's eyes shifted to Xie Yang's side profile, and she felt at ease.
After seeing his startled wife calming down, Xie Yang turned his face to his eldest brother.
"Yes, I think you've mixed too much black with white."
Xie Tong sighed. "You've never seen me fighting in a heated battlefield. Of course, you will doubt me. But I can't fake the title of the winter general. Do you know how I got it? Let me tell you!"
While telling them about the event that made him the fierce winter general, Xie Tong continued leading them to where Xie Yong was waiting for them
Everyone in the northern army knew that the third son of Xie Yong was physically sick and frail, and the eldest son of Xie Yong was somewhat delusional and looking for a nonexistent treasure that no one had ever seen before ever since he was a year old.
His mother indulged him, but his father didn't believe him and told him to forget about it as it was not real.
Xie Tong, however, was insistent about its existence, and he had never stopped looking for it.
His treasure loved him but was shy and didn't like being close to people.
Forcing his treasure was the only way he could keep his treasure by his side, but he didn't have much strength as a child.
Thus, he ferociously trained since he was a year old and with the title of a child prodigy.
Many children hated him, though, as their parents would scold them by using him as an example and tell them to be half as good as him!
Finally, on Xie Tong's eighteenth birthday, his best friend convinced him that he had found the treasure that he was looking for and told him that he was willing to guide him to it.
Xie Tong didn't think twice, nor did he notify anyone about where he was going, before following his best friend out of the army camp and heading into the snow.
As a result, he fell into a trap and realized that his best friend had long turned into a cold corpse, and the thing controlling his corpse was an insect!
He was angry, but he didn't have the time to curse.
The enemies were many, and he was all alone. On top of that, the chance of reinforcement coming for him was less than him escaping their encampment with his dear life. He didn't think he would survive the night, but he didn't want to die alone in such a cold and lonely place. So he made a move to take everyone down with him.
Intentionally, he caused the collapse of the surrounding snowy mountains, which resulted in a heaven swallowing avalanche. The snow buried all his enemies. Just as the avalanche was about to eat him alive, his treasure actually came and teleported him to safety.
He held on to his treasure and fell unconscious, bloody all over.
When he woke up, he couldn't find his treasure anywhere.
Because one of the outsiders who died due to his suicidal action was the Grand Priest's disciple, the emperor rewarded him greatly.
The Grand Priest was the most honorable one, and every outsider respected him.
As his disciple died under the hand of an enemy's empire's soldier, they suffered a significant blow on their morale.
When this matter became public, Xie Tong gained a massive boost in his reputation and everyone, young and old, began to respect him more than ever.
Everyone recognized Xie Tong and gave him the title Winter General.
The emperor went on and had it authorized into a legal title.
Still, Xie Tong wasn't happy in those days.
He kept telling them that his treasure saved him and they should award his treasure too, but no one believed him.
When he asked his father to recognize the existence of his treasure and treat his treasure as his eldest son's savior, his father beat him into a pulp!
When he tried to split half his Grand Title that granted him possession of a small city and barren land, the emperor had him kicked out of the capital and forbade him from ever entering it until he returned to his senses.
Since he couldn't go to the capital, he couldn't legalize a part of his Grand Title under his treasure's name!
He caused many other problems to prove the existence of his treasure.
If it weren't because he was only obsessed with proving the existence of his treasure, didn't show any other signs of ill behavior, wasn't a lustful devil chasing after skirts left and right, and was a treasured chess piece, the ministers and officials would've forced the emperor to discharge him from his position by accusing him of being ill in the brain.
Everyone took him as a man lost in a delusion, but after that event, his treasure saved him from death three more times!
Sadly, Each time he failed to hold on to his treasure!
"Do you also believe my treasure is fake?" Xie Tong asked his trusted brother.
"This matter is too complicated. I can't judge casually. There are many unsolved mysteries in this world. The existence of your treasure is like one too. But since it keeps on saving your life, it's your well-wisher. Whether real or not, won't everyone find out when you're strong enough to keep it by your side and show it to them?"
"Yes, strength, that's what I need!"
That was the end of the conversation, and none of them. had any intention of talking about it again. Lin Hua didn't say anything as she was worried about offending him. Xie Yang didn't say too much but agreed to its existence to keep his brother's heart.
"Dad! We're here."
"Come and Take a seat. This feast is for us all, so don't act shy and eat as much as you want."
A considerable part of the family was at the table, missing only Xie Ye, Xie Kai, and his mother. On the table were dozens of sumptuous dishes. While one steam to four streams of flavors rose from almost all of them, the only one that didn't show a sign of being a spiritual dish, which only a spirit chef can create, was the best as the only Rank 1 chef in the north had made it.
He was the owner of this restaurant and a friend of Xie Yong. He had infused all the flavors into the shell of the Rainbow-colored Turtle fish. The food was so good that Lin Hua couldn't stop moving her chopsticks. Seeing her eating so vigorously, Xie Yang helped feed her too.
After Xie Yong waved his sleeves, cut the main dish into six pieces, and placed one on five plates, Lin Hua and Xie Yang devoured it too. And they found their cultivation increasing.
"I made a breakthrough! Thank you for treating us to this amazing meal, father!" Lin Hua reached the sixth level after consuming the fish.
"Amazing!" No one could feel it, but Xie Yang took half a step into the legendary fifteenth level!
"I knew you young fellas would like it."
Lin Hua was drunk. Xie Yang told a maid to bring her home. As a shadow guard was protecting her in secret, he didn't need to worry about her encountering danger.
After smiling at them, Xie Yong moved his eyes to his eldest child.
"How's the situation at the border?"
"Except for the usual skirmishes with the outsiders, many exciting things are happening there.
"Over the past few days, many lords have supplied us with weapons and enlisted their sons and trained into our army. The quantity is not much. But if you take the empire's rules into account, every healthy northerner turning eighteen this year will have to enlist in the army and serve for three years. Once that happens, our military strength will instantly double!"
Xie Tong saw his father's eyes turn dark and a thoughtful look appearing on his face.
"What are you thinking so deeply about, father?" Xie Tong questioned.
Xie Yong stroked his chin as he said, "Those who have been conflicted about taking part in our family's affair are rushing to support you. Supplying you with men and weapons was their way of showing me and the royal family that they have decided to take a stance instead of staying neutral."
"I considered that too, but I accepted their gifts anyway." Xie Tong wasn't too good with ploys, but because he had been the center of many schemes, he had started to see through things. "It's beneficial for us. As for what they want, if Father, you disagree and I refuse to accept this fate, what can they do? It's not like they can snatch the northern army and land from our hands.
They don't have enough strength on their side."
