Chapter 81: Childhood Friend Stole the highlight!
The next day, the voice of the head of the academy suddenly rang in the ears of every instructor and student present in the Emerald Mountain, startling them. The voice ordered the instructors to gather all the students in the magical realm and the channel opening stage and come with them to the arena. Many people were already gathered around the arena by the time instructor Nina reached there along with Elliot, John, Theo, Lisa, and the other students of her class.
“Do you have any idea why they suddenly brought us here?” John asked while looking at Theo.
“I was in the middle of taking a dump! Why the hell do you think I would know anything about what’s going on?!” Theo replied sarcastically, and his words hurt John’s feelings.
“Theo, you’re acting like a jerk,” Lisa pointed out.
“Just leave me alone,” Theo said, moving his face away from John and Lisa.
“What’s wrong man?” Elliot asked, wondering whether Theo’s on period or something along the line.
“Sorry, give me a few moments and I will be fine,” Theo said, breathing in and out, executing the breathing patterns mentioned in the Buddhist sutra he had learned in his childhood, it was a technique that allows one to calm their hearts and make them lose their frustration.
He was acting like a jerk because he was feeling annoyed. Before the sudden announcement, he had kidnapped Rosy, carrying her like a bride while making his way towards her room, entering it through the windows before throwing her on the bed, and then pouncing on top of her.
He trapped her beneath him and was making out with her, touching her in her erroneous zones, sending electric currents up her mind, making her moan endlessly. The moment he took his pants off to make out with her, the head of the academy cock-blocked him by making an announcement.
He failed to make out with his girlfriend because of the sudden announcement that rang throughout the academy, and thus, he was feeling sexually frustrated.
“It’s fine. Let’s stop talking about that, and focus on what’s going on here,” John said, not feeling too hurt by Theo’s bad behavior, and thus, forgiving him.
“I know why they called us here!” Lisa said, and the ears of those around her perked up in curiosity.
“Oh, really? Tell us about it then.” Elliot asked, wondering why the academy has summoned all the students here.
“I heard that the Academy had discovered an ancient civilization settlement in the wilderness a few days ago. The dean and the instructors tried to explore it but failed to do so as a powerful magical barrier surrounds it, preventing magicians above the channel opening stage from entering inside of it. The barrier is so powerful that they failed to break it, even though they are all above the magic grandmaster stage. However, they found out that magicians in the magical realm and the channel opening stage can pass through the barrier and explore the newly discovered ancient settlement. So, they might have gathered us here to make an announcement that they will be sending us to the newly discovered settlement to explore it.” Lisa explained to them.
As soon as she said those words, Elliot’s eyes brightened in happiness and his body visibly trembled in excitement. “Wow! I have always dreamt of exploring one myself!”
“Seems like your wish will soon come true!” Theo said, by now, he has chanted the sutra multiple times and managed to calm his heart.
“It’s too early to be excited,” Lisa said when she saw the overjoyed Elliot.
“What do you mean?” Elliot asked, blinking his eyes in confusion.
“I am not too sure about what I said,” Lisa said, clearing what she meant by her words.
“But isn’t that the closest bet,” Elliot said, believing that her assumptions are going to be true.
“Yes, it is,” Lisa said.
“Let’s wait for them to make an official announcement,” Theo said before he raised his head to look at the arena.
A few moments later, the head of the academy and a few other instructors walked up the stairs, stepping on the arena, attracting the attention of a few students and instructors. Although they have appeared, the chitter-chatter of the students was still sounding out in the area, making them feel disrespected.
“Ahem!” Gerald’s eyes swept across the rows of students to find out the brats that were still cawing out nonstop before he intentionally cleared his throat, causing an ear-wrenching sound to ring in the ears of the ones who were still talking, and the sound caused their eardrums to start hurting, making them shut up in pain.
Once the surrounding quietened down, Gerald opened his mouth, saying the following words in a hurry, “As many of you might know, I am the first principal and one of the founders of the magician academy. My name’s Gerald, one of the early magicians who slaughtered the monsters that invaded our home and tried to destroy it.”
Gerald was one of the magicians who pushed back the monsters from many areas, establishing safe zones and creating fortress on Earth to fight back the beasts as well as paving the path for humanity to enter planet Xavier!
“Well, enough with the introductions. We don’t have a lot of time, so I will come straight to the point!” Gerald said while looking at the future generations of his race, “The academy has discovered an ancient settlement, not explored by anyone ever before. It’s protected by a powerful barrier that none of us can break. Of course, that means me, your instructors, and my colleagues can’t enter it. However, we found out that the barrier allows those below the magic grandmaster to pass through it. That means all of you can go inside it! It’s bound to be filled with treasures, but know this, dangers come hand in hand with treasures. Exploring that place means obtaining artifacts that would change your life as well as knowledge that will help humanity as a whole and help us get out of the current predicament. Do you want to go there?”
“Yes, sir!” Elliot shouted out at the top of his lungs, expressing his desire to charge straight into the unexplored ancient civilization before anyone else.
After his words, many more voices were raised from the area around the arena, saying that they want to explore it.
“Haha! Good, good, good!” Gerald stroked his beard three times with his off-hand before saying, “But know this, we will only be sending a limited number of you.”
Gerald continued, “Young ones, do you have any questions?”
Theo raised his hand and asked, “How are we going to chose who gets to go to the newly discovered ancient settlement?”
“Good question!” Gerald said, “It’s pretty simple. We will hold a tournament to determine it. Whoever wants to go there can participate in the tournament. If you win a match, you get to advance to the next stage. If you lose, you’ll be immediately disqualified. Know this though, we only have fifty recall magic scroll that allows a magician to escape an ancient settlement after activating it and teleport back to Emerald Mountain. It’s an item that one can use to escape death! And we will be giving one such scroll to everyone going to the ancient settlement as we don’t want any of you to die. Since we only have fifty of them, only the students who earn a place in the top fifty rankings of the tournament will get a chance to own one such scroll and go to the ancient settlement to explore it.”
A Magic Scroll is a mystical object that allows a magician to conjure power far beyond their limits, and it’s not easy to create one as not only no one is well adept in such a profession, but there is barely any knowledge about them in the world, and thus, owning fifty recall magic scrolls and willing to use them to protect the life of their students highlighted the academy good intentions. That’s what most of them thought.
However, Elliot wasn’t as naive as them. He knew that the Magician Academy couldn’t bear to lose any of their students as most of them came from an impressive background, and losing them meant facing a huge backlash and the wrath of their families. Yet, they were also dying to explore the ancient settlement, so they made a compromise and decided to give their recall magic scroll to the strongest fifty students and send them out there.
“Headmaster, when will the tournament be held?”A voice familiar to Elliot sounded from the crowd, making him turn his head towards the direction of the voice, and he saw his childhood friend turned strangers turned familiar standing in the center of the crowd while looking at Headmaster, Gerald.
Headmaster Gerald looked at Sylas and said, “Right after instructor Leonardo finishes explaining the rules of the tournament!”
