Chapter 58: Appraiser's Examination Room (a)
“Apology accepted. Anyway, you better not tell anyone about this. Act as if you didn’t see us. And hide this fact from the others, too. If someone from the Charlotte Family finds out about me being here with a man, then I’ll do my best to show you hell. Is that understood?” Lisa said those words in an arrogant voice while posing like a bossy miss.
“I will do as you say, young miss,” Liz said, respectfully bowing to her.
“That’s great.”
Lisa, who didn’t want to stand out from the crowd for many reasons, told Liz to act as usual, and treat them like regular customers. Liz stood up and nodded, signifying that he will follow her command word for word.
“What should I call you and this young man?” Liz asked them this question because of two reasons. First off, according to the rules of his family, he needed to announce the name of everyone entering the Artifact Gallery. Secondly, he couldn’t announce their real names to the crowd behind the room as his young miss and the man accompanying her wanted to hide their names. That’s why he needs to know what name their undercover name.
“Ask him, not me,” Lisa said while pointing at the man beside her, signifying that Liz shall call them whatever the man names himself and her.
“Just call us Joker and Harley,” Elliot said, laughing under his breath.
“Nice names,” Lisa said, linking elbows with him.
Since she didn’t mind being called by such a name, Liz also didn’t mind calling his young miss Harley.
“As you wish, young lord, young miss,” Liz said to them, opening the door for them.
“Let’s enter,” Lisa said.
Lisa and Elliot moved past Liz, walking towards the open entrance, which led to the interior of the artifact gallery. Liz looked at the man accompanying his young miss with eyes opened wide in surprise and confusion. Just who is he? Why is the arrogant, spoiled, and bossy young miss following him like a cute little puppy? What the hell is happening?!
“The house of Artifacts welcomes Sir. Joker and Miss. Harley.”
As Liz saw them entering into the artifact gallery, he snapped out of his daze and announced their names to the crowd.
Many turned to look at them in the heat of the moment, but after seeing that the two of them have covered their faces with a mask, an act of suspicious and cowardly people, they turned their heads away from them, uninterested.
“What do you want to do first?” Lisa asked.
“Take a look around this place, I guess,” Elliot said.
He looked here and there, taking in his surroundings.
He saw a lot of unidentified items resting on luxurious tables, waiting for a knowledgeable person to appraise them.
He could also see a lot of wealthy people taking out their items and handing them over to famous appraisers, asking them to find out the worth of their items.
While a few appraisers were able to determine the name of the items, and only three of them were able to determine the effect of the items, most of them failed to make even a single correct assumption.
However, all of them received money from their customer, even though most of them failed to appraise the item.
After Elliot finished looking around this place like a curious child, he turned towards the beauty by his side and said, “Let’s grab a drink.”
“Okay,” Lisa nodded.
They motioned for one of the servers to come to them and serve them a drink. The server holding a tray with different types of drink stepped up to them, and they took a glass of wine, sipping it slowly, savoring its taste.
While standing next to each other, relaxing and occasionally taking a sip of their wine, Lisa’s curiosity got the best of her and she asked, “What do you think about this place?” She couldn’t help it and wanted to know whether or not he liked this place.
Elliot’s lips thinned into a smile and he said, “It’s undoubtedly a good place to establish connections with the higher-ups of the society, gain status, reputation as an appraiser, and a large amount of magic coins.”
He wanted to start identifying the items on the table to rack in some magic coins and also gain the attention of the crowd, but Lisa told him that he first needed to become an official appraiser of the artifact gallery. For that, he needs to undergo a simple test, and only after passing the test and becoming an appraiser will he be able to appraise the unidentified items.
Appraisers were knowledgeable and wise people who had researched a lot about the history of Xavier and were able to identify the name, properties, effects, and sometimes even the history of unidentified artifacts and items. Of course, appraisers that are able to identify everything about an artifact are not only highly respected and valued by the higher-ups of the society but also paid a lot of magic coins for every single item they appraise, deeply cherished, and many consider them as someone to kill and die for.
“Take me to the examiner,” Elliot said after he placed the wine glass on an empty table.
Lisa nodded, saying, “Follow me.”
After entering the examination room, which was empty by the way, and only had a single examiner, who they walked up to, Lisa removed her mask and introduced her real identity to the examiner. Her simple act caused the examiner to feel so shocked that her eyeballs threatened to pop out of their sockets, and the examiner blurted out: “Young miss, what are you doing here?”
“Today, the show’s not about me,” Lisa shoot her down with a sly look on her face before she pointed at Elliot and continued, “It’s about him.”
Johanna turned to look at him, and the first thing that came to her mind was how the hell is this unidentifiable person and why is he accompanying Charlotte’s family young miss?
“Umm, this person is?” Johanna asked.
Lisa smiled, hugged him, and said, “Johanna, he is a lucky catch.”
Johanna’s eyes opened wide in surprise and she blurted out loud, “Don’t tell me he is the person you chose to marry?!”
