Chapter 62 - The Plague (7) | 62
A shrill scream resounded in the apartment. Obviously, this much noise resulted in some dangerous things showing themselves.
"That can't be good..." Song Lei muttered to himself. After a few seconds, the horde started gathering. Song Lei turned his head towards Old Wolf. "And now?"
"The horde didn't activate on this floor but it will still result in ghosts appearing on the hallways," Old Wolf said. He turned towards Damien and said, "We don't know who screamed but if we don't leave now, we won't be able to do so again. We don't have the time to help out on the lower floors."
Song Lei and Damien nodded. They left room 1101. As soon as they did so, they were met with a cacophony of noises and weird shadows moving in the dark hallway. Although Song Lei couldn't see what they were, he could understand that they were not darkness monsters. Instead, they were the parts of the horde that would be formed in near time.
Fortunately, as this was not the whole horde, they could put up a fight. Damien's eyes started glowing yellow as he took out a wooden sword. It seemed to have the capability of hurting ghosts, just like the cursed knife. For the whole time, Damien had been in a distressed state. But now, when fighting with the partial horde, he seemed to be calm and collected. Song Lei, too, took out his cursed knife and started fending for himself.

Most of the job was being done by Old Wolf as he sent shockwave after shockwave at the horde of ghosts. But no matter how much he did so, new ghosts would come out. One could see that even Old Wolf was running out of steam. Song Lei and Damien were dealing with the ones that would try to sneak up on Old Wolf.
"Where did you find that?" Damien asked between his breath after fending off another ghost, implying the cursed knife.
"I found it after clearing a room on my floor," Song Lei answered quickly. He suddenly turned around and stabbed a ghost that was coming out of the floor.
"You're lucky," Damien said. "I had to look for mine for a long time."
They slowly backed off and went to the staircase. The staircase was filled with ghosts heading to the lower floors. It was a sight to behold as they formed into a dark river flowing downwards. Old Wolf unleashed another shockwave but this time, it was much stronger than the previous ones. The shockwave shook the whole staircase and the river of ghosts was cut off.
The ghosts' wailings and screams made Song Lei's hair stand on its end.
They used the opportunity created by Old Wolf and ran upstairs. The 12th floor was Lu Peng's floor. They didn't need to search it thoroughly as they knew where he was. After taking a quick look at the floor, they kept going upwards. Old Wolf would occasionally cast a shockwave to clear out ghosts. Weirdly, the ghosts weren't running out. Old Wolf was about to spend all of his energy.
After passing the 13th floor, they reached floor 14. This was Song Lei's floor so they didn't really need to search it. They took a quick look in room 1407. It was just like how Song Lei had left it.
As they were about to leave the floor, Song Lei stopped and looked at room 1401. This room belonged to Xiang Yimu in the past. After Song Lei and Xiang Yimu duked it out and the horde was activated, this room's walls became covered in slime and blood. Song Lei only used it occasionally to take showers.
But now, something felt weird to Song Lei about this room. He kept staring at it for a few seconds and realized that there was a weird light coming from the peephole. When he came closer to look into the peephole, it got covered from the other side and the light was cut off.
"What happened?" Damien asked. He and Old Wolf stopped too. Song Lei didn't answer and instead kicked the door with all his power. Because the doors of the apartment were made from weak material and Song Lei had superhuman strength, it shattered into two.
Old Wolf and Damien's eyes widened as they saw Song Lei breaking the door in one move. Obviously, Song Lei didn't do this just to show off. He quickly entered the room and turned the light switch on. Seeing that it didn't work, he took out his phone and used it as a flashlight.
"How long have you been here?" Song Lei asked. Old Wolf and Damien ran after him to enter the room. There was a man with a black robe standing in the middle of the room. His face couldn't be seen because of his robe but Song Lei could guess that he was a male from his stature.
"Kikikiki..." The robed man chuckled to himself. He took out a glass bottle from the sleeve of his robe and gulped down whatever was inside. "So you discovered me? But that doesn't mean anything!" He shouted. As the horde was already activated, it didn't matter if someone wasn't particularly silent.
The robed man's body started swelling. His muscles became apparent under the robe. Old Wolf didn't want to give the man time to do whatever he was doing and threw out a shockwave. Unfortunately, his shockwave hit an invisible wall and bounced back to them. He had to cast another shockwave to cancel out his own.
"I found some pretty useful talismans after I searched this room," the robed man said. As his muscles kept growing, his robe got torn apart. It would probably be hard for him to even pass through a door.
Damien and Old Wolf turned their head towards Song Lei and frowned when they heard the man's words.
"Don't look at me. I didn't have the time to search the room because you guys sent your men here!" Song Lei explained himself. Old Wolf and Damien didn't even talk back and turned their head back to the man.
"So you were the one who started the darkness monster infestation?" Old Wolf assumed. There hadn't been such a big event in the apartment for a long time. The only thing that could cause such a thing was this man's presence.
"With the power that I got from Master, I will obliterate you all!" The robed man said. He seemed to lose most of his rational thinking with whatever medicine he took.
"Here I come...!"
