Assassin Dad and His Genius Daughter

Chapter 9 Energy Gathering

'I have demonstrated some of my abilities last night,' said Ren Ye with his usual indifference, 'I believe these will show up in the [Ability]…'

Old Yi hummed in acknowledgment as a blue glowing screen materialized itself in front of Ren Ye's face.

[Ability]

[Supernatural Strength]

[Aim Accuracy]

[Agility]

[Shapeshifting (Redacted)]

'Click on each ability,' Old Yi instructed, Ren Ye nodded and willed it

[Supernatural Strength]

[User has demonstrated the limit of his physical force through his use of exerting them in reality.]

Ren Ye acknowledged with a nod, 'It is mostly the strength I had in the past, it allowed me to smoothly gather all of my body's force energy into one fist and take control of force energy inside my body.'

He wasn't surprised due to him having known he had absolute control of this current body; allowing him to transfer energy into one part of himself. A self-control technique an assassin like him had to be taught in the first stage of their training.

In one punch, he transmitted every tiny bit of his body force into that punch; it could deadly end a person's life. This was demonstrated as he struck one of Boss Hui's men and killed him in one snap.

It had its side effect of causing the user to be slightly weak in his knees; Ren Ye didn't have such problems.

'As expected of a past killer…' Old Yi commented with a rather fascinated voice.

[Aim Accuracy]

[User has precise control of which targets he desired to take; allowing him to see through each spot]

'Through years of training, it is natural for an assassin to have an accurate aim; it is part of what makes them truly scary,' Ren Ye gave a cold smile.

He moved on and pressed on [Agility]

'It is self-explanatory; speed is what makes us escape the inquiring eyes of others and roam around without producing any sound,' Ren Ye explained with a deadpan expression.

He didn't press [Shapeshifting] because it wasn't allowed to be pressed yet.

'It is more of a trial use for me…'

'A cheat-like rebirth, isn't it?' Old Yi chuckled profoundly.

Ren Ye ignored the old man's comment and proceeded to ask him about his wellbeing, 'You mentioned you have recovered slightly after this mission?'

'I have although the one thing I unlocked after this mission is to be able to allow the system to operate independently whilst I'm away and also leave behind messages for you,' Old Yi informed with a smiling tone, 'I'd say it is quick progress for the both of us…'

'You know…' Ren Ye couldn't help himself as he asked him with an inquiring tone, 'You never mentioned how you had become like this in the first place; being another's system and helper…'

Old Yi didn't speak for a long time before replying back with a deep voice, 'I am afraid I am unable to disclose my background to you right now.'

'You are simply too weak…' Old Yi let out a laugh, Ren Ye frowned slightly but he understood Old Yi didn't want to share this with anyone else yet and he acknowledged it so.

'I still have a bonus left inside my inventory,' Ren Ye immediately remembered as he willed a screen to pop up in front of him.

[Inventory]

[Soundproof Gun]

[Energy Activating Pill]

Ren Ye pressed on it using his mind power and extended his hand as a blue glow materialized on his palm before dissipating gradually; a pill emerged on his palm

The pill was green in color and its size resembled an ordinary pill; the pill emitted faint smoke before being dispelled by the cold air in the room as it beamed slightly once in a while.

He was momentarily stunned before recovering his composure, 'Judging from its name, I believe it activates the energy inside my body…'

'You aren't completely wrong; it is a bit different from your normal energy,' Old Yi spoke with an amused voice, 'It will help kickstart your cultivation journey.'

'Is it the same as the ones in novels where the protagonists swallow pills and power up, becoming immortals and beat up young masters who can't see Mount Tai?' Ren Ye raised his eyebrows with a questioning look.

He had heard enough of the cliches of a cultivation novel that allowed him to grasp the concept of them; from the original Ren Ye's memories.

'Different!' Old Yi cried out with irritation, 'Don't disrespect our way of cultivating!'

Ren Ye curled up his lips, with an unusual slight smirk on his face.

Old Yi stopped himself and coughed awkwardly, 'It allows you to choose element…'

Ren Ye lifted his head, his eyes began to get serious and laced with curiosity after hearing 'element'.

'Element? Does he mean it allows cultivators to choose whatever matter they desired as in different foundations?'

'Yes, this is the best part of our cultivation,' Old Yi chuckled smugly, 'Although you have choices, many cultivators tend to choose ones that don't match their body's constitution. It doesn't allow them to change after choosing…'

Ren Ye narrowed his eyes with interest, nodding his head casually.

'How many elements are there?'

Instead of speaking, Old Yi showed a screen that listed out the names of each element.

[Elements: Wind, Ice, Fire, Earth, Life, Storm, Mind, Water, etc.]

'There's plenty more but these are all I can tell you about for now,' Old Yi informed, 'Other elements are way out of your capability to comprehend…'

Ren Ye hummed in response, he cast his gaze on the pill on his palm as his eyes gleamed with an unfathomable light.

'There's a lot of things in this world that I'm unaware of, I have an overwhelming urge to discover more about this world…'

'Should I swallow this pill right now?'

'Up to you whenever you're ready,' Old Yi detached himself from Ren Ye and sat cross-legged in front of him, with his analytical dark eyes, "In case of an accident, I may be able to enter your sea of consciousness without having the both of us affected! Remember to control the energy immediately right after you are done choosing!"

Ren Ye nodded his head and placed the green pill inside his mouth, swallowed it, and began to relax his body; he closed his eyes tightly and started controlling his breath.

He placed each of his arms on each side of his legs, his consciousness began to gradually shut down completely; turning him spiritually into a pool of still water. He remained in this state for a very long time before his vision began to produce picturesque scenes behind his closed eyes.

In his vision, he was sitting on still water; on the surface of a tranquil and calm lake with an endless path forward as his figure became isolated from the outside world.

Ren Ye didn't need to open his eyes as he had already felt his surrounding through the energy swirling around him, he remained in a composed state.

Suddenly, the scene changed to another one. He felt the will to open his eyes and, in his vision, he saw a damaged throne in the middle of an ancient castle covered in ice and snowflakes; surrounding the throne were ruined walls covered in ice and a cold breeze

To this place, he felt a strange and undistinguished connection to it; allowing him to roam around.

The scene had changed again as Ren Ye was transferred to another place; a windy and breezy lofty peak. In his vision, he saw himself surrounded by clouds and his figure was shrouded in a misty haze; preventing him from discerning the scene in front of him. Before long, he felt a string of air wrapping around his body. After which, the scene returned back to the lake, two orbs appeared in front of the sat Ren Ye whose eyes were still closed.

The orb on his left side was frozen in ice as the surface was covered in icy glaze; emitting a cold ambiance. The orb on his right side was airy and transparent in color, inside the orb was a noticeable strong tornado and it emitted a powerful current.

Ren Ye suddenly raised one of his arms and it remained motionless for a while; his features creased into lines as he furrowed his eyebrows. After a moment of struggling, he tilted his arm to the left side and placed it on the icy orb, faintly caressing it.

The picturesque scenery in his vision dispersed abruptly as his vision turned black; he felt a cold chill going down his spine as his limps became coldly numb.

He opened his mouth and exhaled cold freezing air; his body seemed to be getting colder and colder as though it was invoking an internal winter inside him.

Ren Ye didn't cry out in pain as the coldness began spreading rapidly; covering his fingers with snowflakes and causing him to grit his teeth, and clench his fingers. After a while, he grasped the concept of balancing the energy.

He had allowed the ice energy to spread on purpose, this way he is able to discern a method to keep them balanced.

Coupled with his absolute control of this body's physical force, he forcibly gathered the contagious icy energy into one place before rapidly transmitting bits of them into his meridians; therefore, allowing him to control the flow and smear his meridians with the icy energy.

His body temperature returned to normal as he became relaxed once again; the external icy energy was dispelled after his completion of control and his consciousness returned gradually.

'I am finally done with kickstarting my cultivation journey,' Ren Ye was satisfied and had a tiny smile on his face, 'I wonder what power I will have?'

Old Yi's face was clouded in amazement and shock, he lifted both of his palms and clasped them together; he had wanted to give an applause but realized Ren Jia was sleeping.

"Congratulation, this old man was right for having faith in you!" Old Yi whispered inaudibly.

Ren Ye smiled indifferently at him and nodded his head, "I am done choosing an element. What time is it now?"

"6 and a half right now," Old Yi whispered quietly before propping himself up and going back inside Ren Ye's consciousness.

'That was pretty impressive,' He hummed with a smile, 'You chose Ice?'

'It was the most suitable one for me,' Ren Ye replied back with a blank look, 'The other one was too weak for my taste…'

Wind wasn't compatible with his temperament as it wasn't suitable for doing offense; instead, Ice was more flexible and capable in a battle...

'Understandable; hopefully you won't make a choice you'll regret in the future,' Old Yi chuckled, Ren Ye shook his head with confidence.

'I am now in Energy Gathering Phase…'

Energy Gathering Phase is the first-ever stage of his cultivation base; although it had pretty much no effect on his body and grant him no power…

One must be patient and calm in the face of a new experience, one must not rush; this is the most crucial part of cultivating!

'I haven't checked the new mission yet!'

A blue screen appeared in front of him, he didn't quickly go to [Missions] yet but instead decided to check his personal details. Along with his height, his weight, etc, a new line of words appeared beneath it.

[Base: Energy Gathering Phase I]

'It has been written down...' He remarked inside his head. He pressed [Return] and clicked on [Mission]

[Current Mission]

[Mission Details: Jindao isn't a suitable place for aspiring cultivators due to the lack of resources needed. We assign this mission to forcibly force cultivators to move to the Beikang.]

[Deadline: Two days if the user is unable to move there in one week's time, the system will automatically and permanently shut down.]

[Reward: 10000 RMB]

'There is a deadline!'

'That is leveling up for you,' Old Yi spoke, amused.

Shrug!

The sound of fabric rubbing each other sounded inside the room; Jia'er tossed and turned in her sleep, hugging the pillow securely with her head pressed against it as she snored softly with a frown.

Ren Ye stood up from his position and walked toward the door, closing it as quietly as possible so as to not wake her up. He wasn't planning to think about the mission yet and decided to focus on making breakfast before his daughter wakes up. He went to check the fridge for some chicken leftovers.

Fortunately, there was some frozen chicken stock in the freezer.

'That shall be enough for one pot of congee,' He rubbed his chin with confusion, 'I am not a very good cook; I'll have to check the recipe on the internet.'

It could be said Ren Ye lacks skill in cooking although he wanted to try learning; to cook for his family once in a while.

'To think I actually spent my entire life on assassinations and not necessary life skills; What have I been doing all these times?'

He sighed with regret and took out the frozen chicken stock; let it cool down before turning it into congee.

He couldn't help but have a bit of concern about whether Jia'er will enjoy his cooking or not.
