Chapter 23 My Gems And Treasures
The young man was unable to speak as he glared at Ren Ye and the little girl with a red face; he was too furious to speak. Ren Ye kept comforting the crying little girl while pretending to look depressed.
"Sir, we are extremely sorry for this inconvenience," The man wearing an apron smiled awkwardly and apologized, "We will prepare another table for you."
"No need."
The young man cried out loudly and refused to do so, he pointed at the both of them, "I will not leave until he leaves. Do you understand me?"
Ren Jia cried even louder, "Stop bullying Papa!"
The young man's face turned black as he heard the little girl's lies, he wanted to shout at her but upon seeing others' eyes were on him, he could only shut his mouth and glare at her to have her shut up.
Ren Ye lowered his face and hid away his expression.
The other tables began engaging in chatter as one of them stood up from their seat and yelled with strong justice, "We don't have a place for arrogant young masters here."
"Find somewhere else and leave them alone!"
The seductive lady gritted her teeth and turned to the young man, speaking softly, "We should leave."
"But you said you wanted to come here for many days now," The young man stuttered awkwardly as he glanced toward her helplessly. The lady shook her head and replied back with a frown,
"Are you stupid? I wanted to come here to eat, not to make trouble!" The lady swatted his hands off her body and continued to speak with a disgusted expression, "I am leaving."
"Baby! Don't leave me!"
The young man turned to hold her from leaving, hurrying to her side and begging her not to leave him. Before he turns to chase after her, he turned his head to scowl at Ren Ye and the waiter with vengeful eyes.
"I will make all of you pay the price for humiliating me!"
Ren Ye yawned with a bored expression and turned to glance at the waiter, "Do you meet these kinds of people every day?"
The waiter laughed awkwardly and apologized, "Too many to count, we just let them do whatever they want. I am extremely sorry for the inconvenience today."
The waiter bought the pancakes as Old Yi couldn't help but praise Ren Jia in front of Ren Ye, "Good child, you did extremely well; you saved your Papa from being a victim of nepotism."
Ren Jia's eyes lit up with joy and turned to look at her Papa with anticipation; waiting for her Papa's praise as well.
"You did well although it was a bit unexpected," Ren Ye cut the pancake into slices and dipped it in honey, putting it in front of the little girl's face. The little girl opened her mouth and bit into the pancake, humming a song.
Ren Ye took a piece of towel and wiped the excess off her face, cleaned her hands and continued stuffing her mouth with pancakes.
"The pancakes are delicious," Old Yi exclaimed with satisfaction on his face, "The manual they gave you was just the thing we need."
-
Ren Ye didn't have to use a digital map as every store and place were deeply imprinted inside his head, allowing him to go to whichever place he liked without assistance.
Ren Ye took Ren Jia to a popular ice cream shop before taking a detour to nearby stationery and bought a bunch of things for the little girl; pens, pencils, and paper.
The little girl gave him two pecks on the cheek with gratitude, pressing her face against his shoulder blade, swinging her legs in his arms,
"Papa! Look!"
The little girl pointed at a huge bear mascot in front of a newly opened restaurant, looking curious at it. Ren Ye took Ren Jia by her hand and walked her to greet the big bear.
The big bear discovered the adorable little girl who was pulling her Papa's hand and glanced at it with big glossy eyes filled with joy, the big bear offered a red balloon to the little girl.
The little girl took the balloon and couldn't help but glance at her Papa before turning to look at the big bear, "One more balloon for Papa, please."
"…"
Due to having to eat her ice cream, Ren Jia had left her Papa holding up two balloons in one hand and the other holding her in his arms; the scene appeared rather heartwarming and made Ren Ye look like a family man.
They sat on a bench near a park as Ren Jia wanted to try out the pencils they had bought, Ren Ye had to finish the ice cream she had left behind.
"Papa!"
The little girl got up and sat comfortably on his lap, snuggling in his arms whilst drawing happily on the paper. Her nose scrunched upwards as she couldn't help but get closer to her Papa.
Ren Ye didn't mind the closeness and caressed the back of her head gently, his eyes softened significantly with unusual gentleness. He cast his eyes on the piece of paper with curiosity.
"What are you drawing?"
"Papa, don't look yet!"
'Humph! The drawing will not get Papa's praises if Papa saw the drawing first,' Ren Jia thought worriedly and leaving his arms, turned to the other side and refused to let him have a look.
"…"
Ren Ye let the little girl do whatever she liked and opened the system's tab to check things that were left behind since he didn't get enough time to check the system.
He discovered there was another new tab,
[Techniques]
[Ice Body]
He had only one technique; not surprised.
He returned to the main tab and scanned through the texts; he hadn't been able to check the details of the next mission.
[New Mission: Job Searching]
[Details: User is currently an unemployed man. It is ideal for users to start looking for a job before continuing on the next mission]
[It is rather a pain in the eyes to have a user with no job.]
"…"
[Reward: unknown]
[Deadline: One day if the user is unable to find one in one day's time, the system will automatically and permanently eliminate the user.]
'Why do I feel like the system is becoming more ruthless with its words?' Ren Ye's mouth twitched with annoyance, 'Hmm, I am interested in what the reward will be."
[Ding! Beware of fellow transmigrator!]
'Hopefully more money,' Ren Ye snorted inwardly, 'I hope my job will help pay rent, or else, I may have to resort to violence and start taking up assassinating as a job.'
'Not in this era,' Old Yi chuckled, 'You can only do such a thing if you have a prominent background which isn't the case for you.'
"…"
'Who said I don't have a prominent background?" Ren Ye asked amused and pursed his lips, 'My background is enough to make others shiver had it been in the past.'
'In the present, not anymore.'
'Old Yi!'
'Is the system connected with any other transmigrator?' Ren Ye asked with serious eyes, 'I recall it was able to detect transmigrator.'
'For example, Mao Di.'
'Hmm, the Jade Emperor did mention that worlds are connected,' Old Yi spoke calmly, 'I can say it will be able to detect certain auras emitted by them.'
'If you come into contact with one of them, either be their most loyal friend or their most hated enemy.'
Ren Ye sighed and glanced toward the trees, 'It is unavoidable, I need to gather my strength to eliminate the bad ones; hopefully, not all of them are steps ahead of me.'
"Papa! Look!"
Ren Ye turned to glance at the little girl as she returned to his arms, snuggling comfortably and showing off her drawing with a large grin on her face.
The little girl had drawn a small pigeon using the pencils they had bought; it had helped assist her in outlining the lines.
"What do you think, Papa?" Her eyes beamed with anticipation and glee; waiting patiently for her Papa's praises.
Ren Ye wasn't dumb as he had known what she was thinking since the beginning, he played along and praised her with a gentle tone; patting her head, "Amazing, let me see."
The little girl gladly offered him her drawing.
Ren Ye took the drawing and glanced at it for a few seconds before thinking of a place to hide and put the drawing into the safe from his system inventory.
He had bought the safe that kept her drawings with him, hoping to collect every piece of artwork Ren Jia draws.
Cherishing them silently inside his head and looks at them whenever he feels down; keeping them as though they were his treasures and gems.
Although Ren Ye wasn't affectionate and outspoken with Ren Jia, he chose to cherish their moments together silently and deeply.
"I will keep this drawing for you," Ren Ye patted her head once again, lowering his face and not letting her see his expression.
"Thank you, Papa. Jia'er loves Papa the most in the world," The little girl wrapped her small arms around his neck and giggled happily.
