Chapter 11 Talent
"What are you planning to do in Beikang?" Fa Qing took a sip of her water as she couldn't help but ask; she was slightly perplexed that he had decided to move away from home.
It was a hard decision to make, especially for someone who hasn't strayed far from their comfort zone.
"I am planning to find a job there," Ren Ye replied with a soft tone, "It is a better place to develop my business and skill."
"And a good environment for a child to grow up in," Ren Ye continued, glancing toward Jia'er who was munching on some snacks, he quickly wiped the dirty leftovers off her mouth.
It is good for a child, especially her age to grow up in a place where many people from different backgrounds come together; not to be stuck in one place and isolated from others.
Ren Ye thought of this after bringing up his experiences in his past life. When he came to the royal capital for the first time, he was extremely inexperienced and lost; a lot of things were new to him at that time, and took him a lot of time to get accustomed to the differences.
In addition, the education system was much more advanced than in Jindao.
Therefore, it was ideal for her to develop there.
"What job are you looking for?" She frowned slightly, "You've never been out of this place, how are you going to cope living in another city?"
'Now she mentioned it, I don't have any idea of what I want to do,' Ren Ye raised his eyebrows inwardly, 'Become a kindergarten teacher?'
'I doubt with your attitude any kid would like you,' Old Yi added, shaking his head, 'Except Jia'er…'
Old Yi was right in that aspect, he wasn't particularly patient with toddlers wetting their pants and crying their eyes out.
It was exceptionally hard for him to spend time with Jia'er if he were to work a full-time job, he only had a few other options; part-time jobs and especially ones at nighttime.
A nightshift hitman? Not so suitable for a family man in this world, how would Ren Ye even tell Jia'er about his job?
'Your Papa goes around murdering people for money to raise you' which sounded ridiculous in anyone's head.
"I am not sure yet," Ren Ye replied frankly, "Although I am looking for ones that allow me to take care of her during the daytime."
Ren Jia glanced at him with her usual beaming eyes, basking in joy after hearing her Papa wants to spend time with her.
"I know a friend of your father who works in Beikang," Her eyes dimmed, "He is planning to retire soon, his company is looking for recruits as well."
"What job?"
"He works as a taxi manager in Beikang, he owns a delivery and a taxi company," Fa Qing lowered her head as she spoke softly, "He can take you around the city, help you look for other jobs or you could apply for a job in one of his companies."
"Your father has been friends with him for many years since their university days, you can say he even helped him build his taxi company."
It wasn't surprising his father had connections in the Beikang; after all, he was quite well-known for his way of doing business and extensive line of the social network. But what worried Ren Ye was how was he going to balance his personal life and his work.
"What is his name?" Ren Ye couldn't help but ask her.
"Deng Jie," Fa Qing replied.
Deng Jie? Why have I heard of this name before?
'Uncle Jie!' Ren Ye immediately figured out the identity of this man after a moment of going through his memories; he was one of his father's many friends who had come to his house countless times in the past to visit his father.
Deng Jie was also the only man who had come to him multiple times to inquire about his missing father when he had left the country.
'It could be said their brotherhood runs deep…'
Ren Ye understood why his mother had suggested he work for him, it could pave a way for him to find his father and his sister with the help of Deng Jie.
This way, she'll have a chance to see her family reunite again. Ren Ye couldn't refuse the job because he had seen how much she had suffered these years.
"If that is the case, I may have to trouble him," Ren Ye gave her a half-smile, "By helping me find a job in his company."
'One that allows me to work at night though so I can learn more things about Jia'er during the day!'
"If so, I can help you contact him," Fa Qing gave him a sincere motherly smile, "It finally took you this long to make a decision for yourself, for your daughter."
"Your father would be delighted to hear about his only son finally becoming a man and learning to live for himself…"
Ren Ye didn't speak after hearing those words, allowing her to vent her sadness,
"It has been hard on you these years," Ren Ye pursed his lips.
'It has been years now since you left, I missed you and Jinghua very dearly…'
Four years ago, Ren Shaoqing left resolutely with their only daughter to some country. She came home to an empty desolate living room with only herself in the room…
Ren Ye was the only anchor that allowed her to walk and live through each day, it felt rather emotional to see him leave.
She thought silently and sighed gloomily, she cast her eyes onto Jia'er who was staring at her with her expressive doe eyes; an unclear emotion lay in those eyes.
-
After having come up with the plan and deciding on moving out, Ren Ye had other plans as well; one of which was to take out all of the roots of enemies in his town, ensuring his mother would be safe when he is gone.
The least he could do as a son and pay his respect to the original Ren Ye for leaving him a body before leaving home was to keep his hometown a safe place even if it means having to commit a crime; Ren Ye didn't need to depend on the system for now as though he was on his own.
'Old Yi, I believe you have recovered a bit of your power,' Ren Ye asked Old Yi inwardly, his eyes on the little girl who was scribbling on a piece of white paper.
The little girl had convinced him by taking his hand and sitting him down next to a table, asking him to watch her while she draws him a picture. Ren Ye didn't have many complaints and was helpless toward this little girl.
The little girl's face was focused on drawing a pair of eyes to which she glanced toward her Papa who was looking over, with a grieved smile, "Papa! Don't look yet!"
Ren Ye nodded his head obediently and glanced the other way; allowing her to finish her drawing before turning it back.
'I have recovered a bit of my elemental power,' Old Yi sighed with a voice laced with satisfaction, 'I don't think it is useable for battles though…'
'What is it?' Ren Ye nudged him.
'I can charge things…' Old Yi said awkwardly; slightly embarrassed.
'What are you? A charging cable?' Ren Ye remarked amusingly and suddenly picked up something, 'Oh!'
'Charging things? Isn't it related to one of the elemental powers he mentioned?'
Electricity corresponded to one of the elemental powers, Storm! Storm was one of the strongest known elements; in control of lightning, electricity, and thunder.
To say Ren Ye was surprised was understandable…
'Old Yi just divulged that he is a Storm cultivator.'
Ren Ye couldn't help but shudder slightly, thinking of Old Yi's elemental power, 'Old Yi, you seriously exposed yourself.'
Old Yi chuckled inside his head and spoke rather arrogantly, 'Frightened, eh? I did that on purpose. Congratulation on finding out there's a Storm cultivator on your side!'
'Thanks to your help, I became a self-sustaining charging cable,' Old Yi remarked, 'It may take another few missions before I could summon thunders though…'
Ren Ye wasn't too surprised but instead, he became a bit more cautious of his behavior, wondering if he did anything to anger Old Yi and if the outcome would be getting smit by his lightning.
'Then, I have decided to quit doing missions so you don't recover any of your power,' Ren Ye replied to him with a deadpan expression; if Old Yi didn't know his nature, he would have thought Ren Ye was being completely serious.
"…"
Ren Ye became serious and informed of his upcoming plan, 'Old Yi, before I leave this place, there's something I need to do first and it may require your help.'
'What is it?'
'I plan on killing the few enemies left in this place and send a warning to them all,' His eyes became increasingly cold, 'I don't want them to bother my mother while I am away in the city. Some of them are still there in A'Meng's house and they will come back to make more trouble…'
'Oh, what plans do you have?' Old Yi became increasingly interested in what he had in plans but also cautious because Ren Ye can become unpredictable in what he plans to do with him.
'An attack,' Ren Ye lowered his head as he rubbed his chin casually and his eyes emitted a chilling aura, 'If I remember correctly, you can turn yourself invisible from the eyes of others.'
'In addition, you have declared your duty is to serve me on the first day we met, correct?'
'Wouldn't it be a shame to let the employer do all the work while the one who was supposed to serve him watches from the side?' Ren Ye smiled enigmatically.
'…'
'This kid is a scheming bastard!' Old Yi held back the urge to shout in anger.
Ren Ye felt a pull on the corner of his shirt as he turned his head to find the little girl looking at him happily, holding the drawing with a few crayons on the table, "Papa! You can look now!"
He hummed and cast his glance onto the piece of drawing on the white paper, Ren Ye was slightly taken aback by her drawing. On the paper, the little girl had drawn two figures in a flower field.
What had surprised him wasn't the figures but the quality of her drawing, it was outstandingly eye-catching and especially for a kid at her age. The figures holding hands resembled him and the little girl, they were surrounded by sunflowers, the drawing contained many meticulous details that a kid her age wouldn't be able to catch and draw into pictures.
The drawing was colored with the use of crayons, making them appear rather ruddy but Jia'er made sure her coloring didn't escape the lines she had drawn beforehand, the colors were in place and not in a mess.
She had drawn some of his features accurately, even more so her own features, the bodies of the two were drawn a bit on the skinny side though. Other than that, the drawing could only have been drawn by someone with a couple of years of experience.
"Jia'er…" Ren Ye widened his eyes slightly and stared at her impressively, "Where did you learn how to draw like this?"
"Jia'er draws using imaginations," The little girl had a thoughtful expression, expecting her Papa to praise her with her looking at him with endearing eyes.
"That's really impressive," Ren Ye praised her, he couldn't not compliment her after seeing the picture.
'Using imaginations? Even I couldn't draw stuff like this at three years old! How did this child even learn to draw?' Ren Ye thought inwardly.
Old Yi barged in and said with an amazed tone, 'Hmm…pretty impressive for a kid.'
'Old Yi, can you sense anything wrong with her?'
'I'm afraid not, I cannot see through her,' Old Yi sighed.
"If Papa likes Jia'er's drawings then Jia'er will draw more," The little girl smiled widely after hearing her Papa praise her as she had wanted, she picked up another white piece of paper and began drawing another for her Papa.
'Could this child be a natural-born artist?'
Ren Ye thought as he glanced at his daughter from a completely different perspective.
