Chapter 222: A Crushing End
Chapter 222: A Crushing End
As Marlin fell to her death in the mountain pit, Evan looked down at it before preparing to leave. However, right as he turned around, he narrowed his eyes as he sensed a change in the surroundings.
Suddenly, a series of red-colored spheres began to gather towards the pit at alarming speeds; they seemed to travel from all directions, coming from areas that had crushed logs and boulders.
"This is...." Evan uttered a bit confused at first, but it only took a slight moment to understand what was going on.
'Shit, such a smart move! To think she waited until this time to play this trick! I can't let her have her way!' As Evan aligned his thoughts, his body erupted with his Battle Energy once more as his body floated towards high speeds preparing to bring a fitting end to this battle.
However, it seemed that Marlin had already recovered to a certain extent in this short period. The mountain exploded, raining bits of rocks across the area as shockwave pushed Evan back, forcing him to balance himself in the air by using his void powers to resist the force.
At this time, Marlin had already floated from within the now destroyed pit of the mountain. Her body seemed as if it was healing itself with the blood that was continuously streaming into her.
"Arrhhhg! Human! I will kill you!" Marlin cried out in a painful voice, but her wounds healed at a visible pace with each passing breath.
Her eyes glared at Evan as she was prepared to take him down the moment she healed, but oddly enough, Evan, who should have been attacking, was only staring at her like an idiot.
Marlin grew a bit worried due to his sudden silence, but Evan merely smirked and spoke, "You've used your ace too early..."
"You... what are you say..." Marlin was about to question his words, but she felt a surge of terrifying power at this instance.
'Oh, nooo!' Marlin cried out in her mind, but sadly, it was already too late.
Following her startling cry, a bright purple beam bolted from a nearby area, striking at her vitals before boring a large hole into her body.
As soon as that attacked ended, many dazzling golden arrows also crashed into her body, breaking it apart into more pieces as it now looked no different from a mangled corpse.
Cough! Marlin coughed out a chunk of fresh blood as she turned her head and glared at the source of the attack, there she noticed that a beautiful young lady with purple hair had pointed a glowing scepter towards her.
A similarly pretty young girl with golden hair was also standing nearby with her bow pointed at her, it glowed in a dazzling light showing a few transparent golden arrows.
"You..." Marlin was about to say something, but as if someone else was itching to finish her words, a playful voice sounded, "You talk too much!"
Before Marlin could react, a whooshing sound was heard from above as if something heavy was falling from the heavens.
"Curse youuuuu!" Marlin uttered a pitiful last cry as a startling bang was heard soon after, followed by the crushing sound of flesh grounded into meat paste.
After the dreadful collision that sent shockwaves across the mountain range, a cloud of rock of dust rose from her direction as if something had fallen on top of her. If one looked closely, they would see a fat figure seated on top of a giant shield as he complained to himself.
"Ah shit, I've gone and done it again, I really can't stand the amount of blood that splashes when I squash so many pests..." Joe said in annoyance as the dusty scene cleared up a bit, revealing the bloody sight underneath his body.
He stood up shakily as the giant shield used to crush Marlin started to shrink rapidly, showing a gruesome sight of crushed flesh and organs.
Evan glanced at this with a smile as he guided his body towards Layla and Emilia while thinking, 'Well, they finished off that critter much faster than I thought...'
At this time, Emilia heaved a sigh of relief as she sat on the ground, Layla looked at her and gave her a thumbs-up as she spoke, "Good work as always Emmy,"
"Hehe, you too Layla," Emilia replied with a light giggle, but looking at her eyes it was clear that she was feeling a bit tired from all the fighting.
Layla also felt a bit worn, but as she noticed that Evan was nearing, she tried to keep a strong appearance.
In a few seconds, Evan had already arrived above Layla; she glanced up at him with a smile on her face as she spoke, "Evan, I'm glad you're safe."
Evan smiled as he landed nearby her and touched her on her cheeks as he spoke, "I'm glad you're okay too..."
The two seemed to have been having a rare sweet moment, but as if he couldn't bear it, Joe, who had only now come over, spoke with discontent, "Che! Sure, go and hug the girl after your brother made such a dramatic move, it's fine, I don't care, I don't care at all!"
Emilia snickered at this, but she said nothing, she turned her sights to the distance as if peering at a form that wasn't here.
Layla shrugged off Evan's hand as her face turned slightly red, but she didn't back away, Evan looked at Joe and rolled his eyes before speaking, "Good work Joe, I did good appointing you as the vanguard, see you even beat the enemy I couldn't finish..."
"Yeah, right," Joe said as he didn't buy his words, even Emilia and Layla could see from afar that Evan had completely dominated Marlin in battle.
Layla giggled at this as she gave Evan a look while thinking, 'He's such a bully at times...'
Evan pretended not to see their expressions; his manner changed to a bit more serious one as he spoke, "Did Breya tell you guys of the next step?"
Joe, Emilia, and Layla nodded with looks of understanding, Evan made a satisfied look as he spoke, "Good, since it's so then we shouldn't waste any more time, let's check what she might have dropped and then head on to the city."
Layla and the others looked at each other before replying, "Right!"
Evan then led them towards Marlin's direction, noticing a few shiny objects on the ground, he had already received a sizeable chunk of EXP. Still, as he had only recently arrived at Level 12, it will take a while longer to reach Level 13.
After inspecting the items, Evan's eyes shone as his lips curved into a smile when he saw a few peculiar objects suited towards him; the others were more suited for everyone else.
Evan thought to himself, 'Good, I've gotten a nice accessory, it may come handy in these coming battles...'
After thinking here, his eyes turned stern as he recalled the current events. He concluded his thoughts, 'I have a feeling that Bee Queen isn't so foolish as to let Marlin do as she please, I also don't know if any other of those Insect Hive Leaders have entered the domain, its best if Milon can find a way to lead his citizens to safety.'
Following his ponderings, Evan then put away his new item as he looked at Joe, Emilia and Layla before they hurriedly left this ruined mountain range, dashing towards the city that was a distance away, one that had already encountered a shocking change.
