Chapter 176: The two forces prepare for a fierce clash!

“Kolyev, take fifteen elite inspectors and thirty-five regular inspectors. Ascend from the southern sector at position thirty-five, and execute a comprehensive sweep.”

“Ying Yuezi, you and Wu Yaoming team up with sixty inspectors to approach from the north path. That route is stable. Maintain safety vigilance.”

“Wang Yue, join me with another group of sixty inspectors, and we’ll advance from the east.”

“Captain Dragon Hand, you handle the assignments for the west and other peripheral routes.”

Wu Mingyu instructed everyone with precise coordination.

Captain Dragon Hand nodded in acknowledgment, rallying all program inspectors from the Indian team.

With people already positioned in the east, north, and south, given their physical prowess, the remaining western and intricate paths suited their team well.

This time, the Chinese and Indian teams mobilized 80% of their forces.

The mountain was completely surrounded. They vowed to turn the entire mountain inside out.

Tonight was destined to be sleepless.

At this moment, the entire mountain was lit up by flashlights as if it were daylight. The barks of police dogs echoed throughout the mountain.

The usually quiet mountain was now abuzz with activity.

Wang Yun, too, had mobilized. His team of thirty was divided into groups of five. It included the five previously captured subordinates. Counting Wang Yun, the total came to thirty-two, with one captured and three injured.

“You now wear human skin masks,” Wang Yun heatedly briefed before they set out. “We have two objectives. Firstly, to strike down these pursuers, and secondly, to escape. If you are discovered, try to blend in by acting. If your cover is blown, then fight. Everyone, this may be our final stand together. The most crucial thing is to escape this mountain. We’ll regroup at another location.”

The resolve in the eyes of his men was palpable, each one’s gaze sharp and determined.

“Rest assured, Brother Yun!”

“Right! I’ll give it my all!”

“Kill these people!”

The team was invigorated as if injected with adrenaline, each member overflowing with excitement.

In a flash, they all melted into the night, ensuring all items on the ground were meticulously cleared. This was to create the illusion that they had never been there.

“Captain, Beibei has picked up a scent that’s not ours, from the northwest, bearing sixty-two degrees,” one of the program inspectors reported.

Ying Yuezi and Wu Yaoming’s group were the first to pick up on the clues. They found a keychain on the ground that looked new. It had no dust, a sign someone in haste likely dropped it during their escape.

“Well done, let’s move.”

Wu Yaoming immediately sprinted in that direction.

Ying Yuezi had good stamina. She was fully clad in a black bodysuit tonight, her sleek black hair neatly pulled back into a high ponytail, which complemented her valiant features beautifully. Under the moonlight, her presence seemed even more formidable.

Meanwhile, Wang Yue and Wu Mingyu’s team also stumbled upon a clue.

“Captain, something’s up. I saw someone move ahead.”

It was one of Wang Yun’s subordinates who had just dashed past from the front, planning to circle to the back and stealthily blend into the group. Unfortunately, just as he was making his move, the beam of a flashlight from one of the program inspectors swung toward him and illuminated his position.

Instantly, his figure was exposed.

“Chase him!”

Wu Mingyu and Wang Yue sprang into action.

Wang Yue, with quick reflexes, aimed her gun at the fleeting shadow and fired.

A loud bang echoed across the mountainside, causing the others who were searching to pause in surprise.

This was clearly good news.

***

“Huh? He’s been spotted.”

Wang Yun was making his way up the mid-slope at the time and could distinctly hear the sound from behind to his left. His expression was grave. But at this moment, he couldn’t afford to worry about others. He had to focus on his own escape.

With his keen hearing, just as Wang Yun reached the middle of the slope, he detected a rustling sound from his right front. Soon after, the sound of barking dogs reached him from afar.

Judging by the noise, the opposition was about two kilometers away from his position.

“You’ve brought this upon yourself,” Wang Yun muttered.

He squinted his eyes, his vision sharp even in the dark. Without any need for artificial light, he could make out the sparse figures of the Indian team in the distance.

Captain Dragon Hand was coincidentally moving in Wang Yun’s direction. With a swift movement, Wang Yun slipped into a crevice between large boulders. This area’s abundant and sizable rocks made it easy to conceal oneself.

Woof! Woof!

“What’s the matter, Amu?” Captain Dragon Hand, leading a team of inspectors through the mountain, paused as the police dog he was handling started barking toward an area they had just searched.

“Captain, Amu has been wrong twice tonight. Wang Yun may have scattered something that affects the sense of smell. Amu has been sneezing continuously,” one of the inspectors said, patting the dog with concern while looking frustrated.

Captain Dragon Hand frowned and turned on his walkie-talkie to share this information.

“You’re right. We followed the dog straight to the mountain base, but the police dog’s sense of smell was affected. I suggest we stop using the dog to avoid errors,” Wu Mingyu’s voice came through the intercom.

“Damn it! Take Amu down the mountain,” Captain Dragon Hand instructed one of the inspectors beside him.

The man turned and headed downhill immediately.

Wang Yun watched this unfold clearly from his hiding spot. The dog had undoubtedly saved its handler by alerting them to the altered conditions. Without the police dog’s assistance, it was like losing a vital limb.

“Speed up! Stay alert,” Captain Dragon Hand added before continuing his approach toward Wang Yun’s location.

Just a few steps later, a thunderous explosion sounded from the southeast, resonating across the area.

“What’s that noise?”

“That’s an explosion!”

“All captains, be alert, there’s a bomb in the mountain! Captains, be careful, there are bombs in the mountain,” Captain Wang Yue’s voice boomed over the intercom.

Instantly, all the program inspectors tensed up, each one extra cautious about where they stepped.

“Captain, what do we do now?” one of them asked anxiously. “There are bombs on the ground, our dogs’ sense of smell is compromised, and if we step on one, we might not make it.”

“Everyone, stay calm,” the captain advised. “Be mindful of where you step. From what we’ve gathered, Wang Yun’s arsenal isn’t that formidable. The area is vast; he couldn’t have densely planted bombs—”

Before he could finish, another thunderous explosion rocked the ground beneath them, sending a slight tremor through the area.

Sometimes, the slap in the face came with impeccable timing.
