Apocalypse: The Hotel She Runs Is the Only Paradise

Chapter 59: Girls Love Beauty

Chapter 59

The supermarket had two doors, both for entry and exit.

There was a checkout counter where Gu Wanyin could sit.

Customers would come in, choose their items, and then proceed to the counter to pay.

Gu Wanyin walked to the checkout counter and sat down.

In front of her was a machine, similar to the one in the hotel, used for exchanging points.

Next to the machine was a card reader.

Perhaps to prevent boredom, several books were placed at the counter for her to read during idle times.

Gu Wanyin picked up one randomly and saw its title was "The Cold-Hearted Prince's Aggressive Pursuit of His Wife."

Gu Wanyin: "..."

Well, it's better than nothing.

On the wall nearby hung a sign displaying the store rules.

The supermarket's operating hours were from 8 AM to 8 PM daily.

In this horror world, there was an item called a spirit orb, which looked like a glass marble.

Both NPCs and players visiting the horror world for side quests could use spirit orbs to exchange for points and purchase goods.

One spirit orb was equal to 100 points.

Each item in the supermarket was labeled with its price, allowing customers to choose freely.

The rules also stated that the store would only operate for seven days, and any points exchanged from spirit orbs must be used before the end of business, or they would become invalid.

At the bottom, it showed how many days remained until the store closed.

Additional rules prohibited fighting in the store, any behavior that might harm or frighten the shopkeeper, no credit allowed, and all sales were final.

Gu Wanyin was about to start reading the novel when suddenly, one of the doors opened and a customer walked in.

She curiously turned to look.

Then, she couldn't help but gasp.

This person had no face!

No facial features, no hair! Just a round, bald head...

"System, did you see that?" Gu Wanyin screamed internally.

"Yes, it's a Faceless Ghost. Stay calm, host," replied the system.

Despite having no facial features, this Faceless Ghost walked around the supermarket, seemingly selecting items. Finally, it picked up two bags of chips and a bottle of iced tea, approached the counter, glanced at the store rules, and then produced a spirit orb, saying, "Please ring these up."

His voice was surprisingly normal, just like an ordinary man's.

Gu Wanyin said, "Just place the spirit orb on the machine."

Seeing the Faceless Ghost up close was quite impactful.

However, Gu Wanyin knew she wasn't in any danger, and the Faceless Ghost seemed quite polite, so she wasn't too scared.

The Faceless Ghost placed a spirit orb on the machine, and quickly a supermarket shopping card appeared, showing 100 points.

"Now just swipe the card here. Two bags of chips and a bottle of iced tea come to 30 points total."

Indeed, the pricing in the horror world was different from the hotel.

After all, in the horror world, NPCs and experienced players could obtain spirit orbs more easily.

As for novice players... Gu Wanyin couldn't consider everyone's situation.

She was here to make quick money, not to do charity.

Besides, the pricing was set by the system; she couldn't change it.

Moreover, she and her supermarket had suddenly appeared in the horror world.

If her system hadn't won first place, she wouldn't even be able to open a supermarket in the horror world. With or without this supermarket, players would still have to complete their side quests, right?

The prices were what they were; whether to buy or not was up to them.

After the Faceless Ghost swiped the card, Gu Wanyin kindly reminded him, "Remember to use all the points on the card within seven days."

"Understood, thank you," the Faceless Ghost politely thanked her and left with his chips and iced tea.

Gu Wanyin let out a small sigh of relief and said to the system, "It seems the horror world isn't that scary after all. It's just running a supermarket here. I thought I'd have to go through side quests too."

"If you want, I can arrange that..." the system offered.

"No, I don't want that."

A while later, the sound of thunder outside startled Gu Wanyin.

"Is it going to rain? Can it rain here?"

"I don't think so, it's probably just to create a spooky atmosphere," the system said.

"I see."

At that moment, another customer walked in.

It was a girl who looked much more normal compared to the Faceless Ghost. She wore a white dress and was quite pretty.

She browsed the supermarket, picking up a bag of sunflower seeds, a pack of spicy strips, a box of cookies, and a carton of yogurt.

After selecting her items, she came to the counter and said, "Check out."

Her voice was pleasant, but there was something odd about it, as if she was speaking with her tongue between her teeth.

Gu Wanyin instructed her to exchange her spirit orb for a shopping card. Her purchases totaled 50 points.

The girl didn't seem too concerned about the cost. After she left, Gu Wanyin said to the system, "She must be an experienced player, right? She looks so delicate, but appearances can be deceiving."

The system replied, "Indeed, appearances can be deceiving, because she's actually a hanged ghost."

Gu Wanyin: "..."

That explained her strange way of speaking!

"But, but aren't hanged ghosts supposed to have long, protruding tongues?"

"Well, she's a girl, you know. She cares about her appearance."

Gu Wanyin was speechless, finding the logic oddly convincing.

On the first day, the supermarket didn't have many customers, but Gu Wanyin still earned over 700 points.

She was allowed to eat anything in the supermarket.

When there were no customers, Gu Wanyin sat there eating snacks and reading novels.

Despite its clichéd title, the novel was quite entertaining.

"System, can I take these novels back to the hotel with me?"

"Yes, you can."

Soon it was 8 PM, and the supermarket doors closed automatically.

Gu Wanyin yawned, returned to her cabin, took a shower, read a bit more of the novel, and then fell asleep.

Early the next morning, the supermarket opened on time.

Gu Wanyin was already seated at the checkout counter.

She had grabbed a bread roll and a carton of milk for breakfast.

Before she could finish eating, she saw a person dressed in black enter the store.

Well, not necessarily a person.

But after yesterday's experiences, Gu Wanyin was no longer fazed. She continued munching on her bread.

However, the black-clad customer spoke up: "When did a supermarket open here? I can't believe I just noticed it."

Gu Wanyin swallowed her mouthful of bread and said, "We just opened yesterday. Customer, here are the store rules for your reference. Feel free to browse and select items on your own."

Most customers would start shopping after hearing this, but the black-clad customer sneered, "Store rules? Little girl, you clearly don't know how famous I, the Black-Clothed Ghost, am! I'm from high-level side quests, and so far, I've devoured no less than 800 players, if not a thousand!"
