Chapter 51
The next two days were pretty boring. I didn't go hunting, and I couldn't talk with others like Will about the fight because I could accidentally say too much, and ruin everything. Mark wasn't stupid and probably has his ears here and there. I just didn't trust myself that much, so I tried to isolate myself from people I knew.
I spend a lot of time talking with Hatta. He told me about himself. His father used to own a small grocery shop in Singapur. Son took over it after his father's death. Lung cancer. Which was kinda ironic, because his old man hated cigarettes and smokers. With business declining, and his mother getting sick he found himself wanting to run away. And then he woke up here. He kept telling me that he died and reincarnated, as all of us did. It was a funny conversation, cause I, on the other hand, kept telling him that we were transported to this strange world.
Then the conversation switched to Zhang Yong. Hatta was really admiring that guy. I couldn't blame him, because I was growing to the same conclusions. For the first time, I didn't want to get away from people and instead be a part of this group called Wuxia. The memories of what I went thru here kept invading my mind, and I found myself almost unconsciously talking about it with this Singaporean man I barely knew.
Moments like this were telling me that this place could really be a paradise, but first, we had to earn it with blood and sweat. Looking back, such a task seemed impossible half a year ago. Now It was in reach of our hands. We just had to do the last push. I made myself a promise that day, to give my all to help Zhang Yong fulfill his wish.
I also spend some time shopping. My leather armor was in terrible condition. The hoodie I bought also had holes, but for some reason, I wanted to keep it. On the other hand, armor needed to be switched for a new one. So I bought one for the entire 3k points. It was well made with sturdy leather. Almost comfortable, almost.
The rest of my time was spent dueling with Wuxia's new recruits. Zhang Yong helped me arrange such fights. I needed some experience with bigger opponents than rats and newbies needed to how to deal with goblins and rats, so we helped each other.
Even though I engaged in those activities time seemed to pass very slowly. Maybe because I just couldn't wait for the duel? I caught myself drifting to thinking about the upcoming clash in mid of training. I got hit several times. It was obvious that I'm spacing out over and over again, so we as a group decided to take a break.
We resumed after eating some food together and talking about how it used to be here in the past. Since they were short on funds, I paid for it. They were curious about the first days. I mentioned to them a couple of important names like Marcella "The Discoverer" and Mihael "The First Killer". Now both of them had probably their own hunting groups. I doubted they were part of Blood Brothers, and I never saw them among Wuxia's ranks. There was still The Mariachis. Apparently, Juan was working hard to regain his position at the top of the food chain. Hunting every day from the morning to nightfall.
At some point, the topic changed naturally to the upcoming duel. Apparently, the whole city was talking about it. There was even some betting going on. Well, in the end, it was a big deal when two big shots were about to collide. Everybody wanted to see this fight. Not just for entertainment but also because it would determine our future.
That's how two days had passed with 16 205 points on my account.
