Chapter 10
Tenth day. It's been ten days since this mess started. Why did it happen? Why does anything in life happen? Luck? God's will? Karma? If you want answers… Well, spoiler alert, I don't have them. I do not have even the slightest fucking idea why all of this happened, and in the end, it didn't matter, because, in the end, only survival matters.
Some people tend to say they wanna die, but throw them in the cage with a lion, and they will try to survive, they will struggle. Maybe that's the answer, to struggle? I tended to have those thoughts from time to time, especially when there was nothing to do. And since my leg, and side, I had those moments more often than less.
This day I woke up as always in pain, but something was different. I had a dream. Some people were chasing me for some unknown reason. I was flying from country to country. There was a lot of shooting, and crazy escapes, but in the end, it was only a dream. Maybe it meant something, or maybe not. In all of this mess, it didn't matter, but for some reason, I started thinking about stuff I wrote above. Now, when I'm writing this, it's all in the past, but for some reason, I still remember this useless thing. Anyway, back to business.
I got up. As always. Still in pain, and still hating life. Nothing really changed, and I had more than fewer reasons to be depressed, but I wasn't. I got out and started the usual walk. Took my time to be sure, to yet again, come from a different direction. The city center was half empty because of hunting, but I noticed more people than yesterday.
I wondered if somebody is gonna die to goblins. Only I were dumb enough to hunt alone. Others went in groups so it was harder to get yourself killed. As I was looking around I also noticed that number of newly wounded was greater. Did they become more reckless? Maybe goblins started to roam in bigger groups? Or people just went crazier for crystals? Maybe the possibility of upgrading yourself was the reason?
I also wondered how they were splitting the stones? Equally? Or whoever killed the green one, got his stone? Thinking, I got in line to use the device. It was a short one, only two people, nevertheless, I had to wait. After getting my turn I bought an expensive piece of meat and some seasoning. With the help of my newly made bowl, it didn't have to mix with dirt, the downside was my water later tasted funny. Compared to splinters in the tongue or palate, it still was not big of a deal. Nine points down.
While preparing food I saw Aisha with her group. Ian had a bruise on his head. It looked nasty, but - I have to give it to him - he made it look like it was nothing. I saw the dude laughing. Anna probably also got hurt. Couldn't tell for sure, since she had some clothes, unlike other people. I know I'm being bitter, but try sleeping on the ground for ten days in a pair of boxers and a hoodie. You will earn a whole other understanding of my situation.
At some point, Aisha looked at me, and I could swear she smiled. Didn't approach me though. Then I ate and had to run away. Ok, ok. Limp away. It probably looked funny to others. Why did I have to run? Because of Will. He started making his way to me, and I simply couldn't face the guy after yesterday. Was I weird about it? Probably.
I made my way to the hideout - as always took my time. Then I laid on the floor and started to think, cause there was nothing else to do.
Leg felt better overall but I was still not in the condition to hunt. Points were going down pretty fast. I felt the temptation to dump all of them in stats, and go hunting. I kept telling myself it can be done if I get them one by one, but more realistic parts of my brain were screaming it's stupid as fuck, and there is no way in hell for this to work.
There was a carrot right in front of my nose but I had to ignore it, for now, to not get hit with a stick. By that I mean death. It is very hard when there is an opportunity, and other people around you are taking advantage of it, while you can't do anything. Very, very hard.
I spent the rest of the day making plans, trying to find a way to hunt safely the next day. At some point, I got up and started limping slowly around the ruined house, but in the end, I didn't come up with any good ideas. Nothing made enough sense to go for it.
Day ended with 250 points.
