Although it was only the third day of the assessmt period, and the final rankings were not yet determined, this developmt took them by surprise!
After realizing that David might possess significant pottial, the sior officials at Washington D.C. Headquarters immediately called the Lake District Sub-Bureau, wanting to better understand David's situation.
Lake District Sub-Bureau, Director's office.
"To be frank with you, Deputy Director Donald, not long after the Black Tax Law wt into effect, I saw David's pottial. And as you know, under my guidance, his inspection abilities have made great strides to get to where they are now..."
William knew that David's meteoric rise would definitely alarm the higher-ups at headquarters.
But he was surprised at how quickly they called.
The call he was now taking was from the Deputy Director at Washington D.C. Headquarters responsible for the Black Tax Law.
Facing such an important figure, he naturally took the opportunity to boast about his eye for talt.
"Hmm, not bad, William. We need such capable elites for our Black Tax Law. I hope that by the d of this assessmt period, David's ranking can advance ev further!"
"I understand, Deputy Director Donald. I will make sure he maintains this state!"
After hanging up the phone, William was in high spirits.
But soon, a look of vy appeared on his face.
From the conversation, he knew that David had caught the eye of Deputy Director Donald.
That was a Deputy Director with high status and substantial power at headquarters!
If David could maintain his performance, and with the Deputy Director's patronage, a meteoric rise was a certainty!
Putting his thoughts aside, William stood up. He needed to share this news with David to give the young man a bit of motivation!
Quickly, he arrived at the door of David's office.
After knocking and hearing "Come in," he pushed the door op and tered.
Upon seeing William, David immediately stood up, but William gestured for him to sit down.
He first inquired about the source of the over $3.8 million in taxes and, after hearing the full story, he th asked: "David, do you know who just called me?"
David asked curiously, "Who?"
"Deputy Director Donald from headquarters. You've heard of him, right?"
"Deputy Director Donald, of course, I've heard of him!"
As one of the drafters of the Black Tax Law, David was certainly aware of him.
"He thinks highly of you and wants you to perform well!"
Davids was tak aback upon hearing this, th his heart began to swell with joy.
Although there were five Deputy Directors at Washington D.C. Headquarters, Donald was the one in charge of the Black Tax Law, and his power was far greater than the other four directors.
Now that his name was remembered by the Deputy Director, if he could continue to maintain such a standard of tax performance, his career was destined for rapid advancemt.
"Alright, th I won't disturb you any longer, carry on with your work!"
...
At the Bellagio Hotel, in front of a presidtial suite.
Seeing Baldwin's arrival, the bodyguard at the door immediately oped it, allowing him try.
Inside the room, a man with slicked-back hair wearing a vest sat with his legs crossed on the sofa, while Dieter lay on his back on a massage chair, letting the masseuse knead his body.
"Mister Ditter, I've retrieved the goods; they're being processed in our warehouse!"
"Good job, Baldwin. You were lucky this time. If you lose the goods again, you won't be so fortunate!"
Baldwin inwardly complained.
He had spt $.58 million to recover the goods, lucky his ass!
Although he thought this, he dared not go into detail about the incidt and instead swiftly changed the subject: "Mister Ditter, Director David from the Internal Revue Service said to meet him before 6 o'clock tonight, or else..."
At the d, Baldwin dared not continue.
Dieter pushed away the masseuse behind him, turned a, and glared macingly at him, demanding, "Or else what?"
"Or else... they won't be so courteous to you..."
Possibly out of sheer fear, Baldwin hung his head low after speaking.
"Damn it, what is the IRS to be discourteous to me, do they know who I am?!"
As Dieter raged, Baldwin didn't dare to ev breathe heavily.
But the slick-haired man on the sofa couldn't stay seated any longer, interrupting, "Baldwin, tell me the whole story in detail!"
His name was Sapir, a lawyer, mainly responsible for helping Dieter manage funds, as well as strategizing.
He found out about the stol goods only this morning.
But as to how they were stol, since Dieter partied too hard the previous night, he didn't convey much information.
"Well, wer't we trading with the Mexico Gang last night? Th the IRS suddly emerged, claimed they had this Black Tax Law, and told us to pay taxes..."
After hearing Baldwin's explanation, Sapir understood the tire affair.
As an attorney, he had indeed heard of the Black Tax Law.
But what he did not expect was for the IRS to use this law against them so swiftly.
After pondering for a momt, Sapir looked at Dieter and suggested, "Mister Dieter, the IRS is no joke. From what I know, they've be vigorously promoting this law rectly, so I recommd you talk to them!"
"To hell with talking, are you out of your mind? In this part of Las Vegas, who do I need to talk to?"
