Chapter 304: Chapter 194: Unfreeze My Funds!_4
"Your team has been keeping an eye on David, how could..."
Ducray had intended to ask how David could have still gotten his hands on his weaknesses, but realizing that this matter shouldn't be leaked, he had to change his words and said, "Forget it, let's just end it here, unfreeze that fund for GCO right away!"
"What?!"
Bellamy's face changed drastically, utterly in disbelief of what he had just heard.
"I said, unfreeze the fund for GCO, are you deaf or what?"
Mainly because Bellamy had told him that David was already being watched, so he hadn't paid much attention to it.
But what he hadn't expected was that David, who was supposed to be under surveillance, had silently obtained two pieces of damaging evidence against him. Strictly speaking, this was a serious dereliction of duty on Bellamy's part, which was why Ducray was so infuriated now.
Having his concerns confirmed, Bellamy was nearly out of his wits at this point.
What the hell was going on?
Wasn't their Chief Tax Officer a staunch supporter of him? And once this tax money entered David's account, what was the point of his grand 'Deification Project'?
Their Chief, didn't he want the dazzling political achievements that came with the Deification Project anymore?
"I'm speaking, did you hear me?"
Bellamy snapped back to reality and immediately asked, "What exactly happened, Chief? We can't unfreeze this fund. Otherwise, the Deification Project... we'll lose all hope."
"Put the Deification Project aside for now, just unfreeze the fund," Ducray ordered.
While the Deification Project was indeed a dazzling political achievement, if those two documents reached the main office, his path to promotion would be nearly blocked. Ducray naturally knew what to choose when weighing his options.
"Chief, think it over. If we unfreeze this fund, not only will I remember it, but so will Brown Soros from New York, and as you know, Brown is backed by Chief Advisor Welton Heng, and he will be angered by this too..."
Bellamy, in trying to change Ducray's mind, brought up Brown and Welton Heng without reservation.
However, his words only made Ducray, who was already threatened by David, even more infuriated. He yelled, "Who the hell is the Chief here, you or me?"
"I..."
Bellamy was both angry and helpless, but seeing Ducray's rage, he didn't dare to retort any longer and left dejectedly, returning to his own office.
And there stood Trollope, who upon seeing his Chief Tax Officer in such a dispirited state, felt an ominous feeling and asked, "What happened, Chief Tax Officer?"
"The Chief told me to unfreeze GCO's funds."
"What! How could..."
Just like Bellamy before, Trollope couldn't believe his own ears upon hearing this.
But then, recalling David who had just left the Chief's office, it suddenly dawned on him, and he murmured, "The Chief wouldn't do this unless David... has something on him, forcing his hand."
"That's what I think too... Damn it!"
Bellamy looked up at Trollope and demanded, "Weren't you keeping a close watch on David and his crew? What the hell did he do yesterday?"
Bellamy couldn't understand how David, who had only been in Los Angeles for a day, managed to deal with GCO Corporation and even threaten their Chief.
And this was on their turf!
Now Bellamy suddenly realized why their Chief Ducray was so angry.
Being threatened like this on one's own turf, and having to reluctantly comply in the end, who wouldn't fly into a rage?
