Chapter 27
C27 – Meet Wei Pengxing Again!
The waiter’s attitude left much to be desired, but Peng Gengkun didn’t let it bother him.
Even as elite disciples of the Outer Sect, their status wasn’t particularly high, especially since they were all commoners.
Peng Gengkun, however, was there because of his close ties with Lin Huaqiao, and he wasn’t concerned about whether others were commoners. Besides, Peng Gengkun was a commoner himself. It was only with the system’s assistance that he had managed to grow stronger.
Lin Huaqiao and the others were unaware of the earlier incident. Upon learning that there were vacancies at the Cloud Crane Tower, they eagerly ascended to the third floor.
The main hall of the Cloud Crane Tower was a hive of activity. Yet, the third floor presented a stark contrast with its private compartments and refined decor.
Clearly, the third floor was reserved for elite disciples and the affluent.
Peng Gengkun and his companions settled into their seats, and soon enough, a spread of food and drinks graced their table.
Peng Gengkun poured himself a full cup of wine and, gazing into it, he was struck by a realization.
“I never imagined this wine cup would contain traces of Spiritual Energy. Though I can’t absorb it, the owner of the Cloud Crane Tower is clearly no ordinary individual. It’s no wonder Wang Jingfu and the rest wouldn’t dare to make trouble here,” he mused.
Lin Huaqiao then raised his glass with a smile, “Folks, I’m not one for speeches. But today, let’s raise a glass to Junior Brother Yue Yun for his early ascension to elite disciple status. Junior Brother Yue’s future is undoubtedly limitless. A toast to Junior Brother Yue!”
Everyone agreed with nods and emptied their glasses in unison.
Peng Gengkun, unfamiliar with Yue Yun, joined in the toast nonetheless.
The wine warmed them to each other, and Yue Yun offered Peng Gengkun some discreet compliments, earning his good favor.
In the midst of their merry drinking, the room’s door was abruptly kicked open. They all turned, stunned, to see the figure at the doorway.
Peng Gengkun recognized him at once – it was Wei Pengxing.
Wei Pengxing, as a scion of a wealthy family, wasn’t out of place here.
Peng Gengkun quirked an eyebrow but remained silent. Seated in the innermost booth, he was out of Wei Pengxing’s immediate line of sight. Plus, Wei Pengxing was slightly inebriated.
The other disciples recognized him at once. Wei Pengxing was well-known in the Outer Sect as a rich family’s disciple. His spiritual cultivation couldn’t hold a candle to Yan Xinheng’s, but Wei Pengxing had a penchant for stirring up trouble.
Currently, Wei Pengxing was glaring at Wang Jingfu, Lin Huaqiao, and their companions. He barked, “You paupers are making too much noise.”
At his words, Lin Huaqiao and the others balled their fists, visibly upset yet powerless. They didn’t dare retaliate against Wei Pengxing.
Peng Gengkun, however, chose not to intervene, instead observing the unfolding drama with a hint of amusement.
Wei Pengxing’s arrogance swelled when he saw their hesitance to confront him.
“Today’s on me, but you’re all too loud. Leave now, and I’ll let this slide,” he declared.
From another booth came a voice, “Wei Pengxing, haven’t you dealt with those loudmouths yet?”
That seemed to snap Wei Pengxing to attention. “Almost done!” he called back hastily.
Then, with a dismissive wave, he warned, “Scram, or I’ll have you thrown out.”
Lin Huaqiao and the rest wore dark expressions but stood down, not daring to challenge Wei Pengxing. All the disciples there bore grudges against those from wealthy families, yet they were powerless against them.
Even someone like Wei Pengxing was a tough nut to crack.
As they were about to exit, Peng Gengkun drained his cup and set it down with resolve. “Wei Pengxing, looks like you’re asking for a beating,” he remarked coolly.
Wei Pengxing, taken aback, demanded, “And who might you be?”
“The one who could take you down,” Peng Gengkun replied with a steely edge.
Peng Gengkun strolled forward two steps, uttering the words with a nonchalant ease. To any onlooker, Peng Gengkun didn’t seem like the type to initiate a fight.
But initiate he did.
Even without harnessing Astral Energy, Peng Gengkun’s current level of mastery meant that a single punch could easily floor Wei Pengxing.
Clutching his nose and howling in pain, Wei Pengxing attempted to rise, only to be swiftly kicked out of the room by Peng Gengkun.
“What does it matter if you’re from a wealthy family? We’re all elite disciples here, and that doesn’t give you any authority over them.”
With that, Peng Gengkun turned and addressed the others, “Don’t worry about him.”
Lin Huaqiao, visibly stunned, remarked, “I knew you were formidable in a fight, but I had no idea your words packed just as much punch. Just remember, Wei Pengxing has a cousin who’s not to be trifled with.”
“I’m aware,” Peng Gengkun replied with a grin. “His cousin has been itching to get at me for a while. If not, Yan Xinheng wouldn’t have come after me. Yet here I am, still standing.”
Following his words, the group showered him with compliments. Peng Gengkun, unfazed and far from bashful, took it all in stride.
Moments later, the door swung open once more. This time, however, it wasn’t Wei Pengxing who entered. Bent over and nursing his injured nose, Wei Pengxing lurked in the background, evidently having come to his senses.
Wei Pengxing shot Peng Gengkun a venomous look but held back from any confrontation.
It was clear to all, though, that Wei Pengxing wasn’t the star of this show. The spotlight belonged to the individual standing before Wei Pengxing.
Dressed in the Flying Cloud Sect’s disciple garb, the newcomer’s face was one they hadn’t seen before within the sect.
Peng Gengkun racked his brain but came up empty—no recognition.
He pondered, “An Inner Sect disciple, perhaps? But his cultivation seems to surpass that. He must be one of those elite disciples who’s flown under the radar. Yet, obscurity doesn’t equate to a lack of skill. Otherwise, Wei Pengxing wouldn’t be so deferential.”
Then, the disciple spoke up slowly, “Who is Peng Gengkun?”
Wei Pengxing quickly pointed at Peng Gengkun and exclaimed, “Dou, that’s Peng Gengkun. He’s the one who hit me just a moment ago.”
