Chapter 21
C21 – Death Match Arena!
Yan Xinheng’s words truly startled Peng Gengkun, prompting him to quickly sift through his memories.
The Flying Cloud Sect did indeed promote competition among its disciples, but death was strictly off-limits. Wei Pengxing might have been vicious in his threats, but he only went as far as crippling Peng Gengkun’s Qi Sea; he never intended to kill him.
Still, when deep grudges existed between disciples, they could petition the sect for arbitration. Such disputes were settled with a battle to the death at the Death Match Arena.
“All this over a Space Ring you claim I stole, and now you’re pushing for a death match?” Peng Gengkun eyed Yan Xinheng, his mind piecing together a plan. “He’s from a noble family, priding himself on his status. He wouldn’t stoop to facing me, a commoner’s son, in the Death Match Arena. This has Wei Mingzhi’s fingerprints all over it! That way, even if Yan Xinheng kills me, nobody could point fingers.”
Lost in thought, Peng Gengkun’s attention snapped upward at a booming voice from above: “Agreed.”
Surprised, Peng Gengkun watched as Yan Xinheng gleefully exclaimed, “Did you hear that? The Disciplinary Elder of the Flying Cloud Sect has given his consent. See that beam of white light piercing the sky? That’s the Death Match Arena. Once it’s activated, there’s no turning back. You have no choice but to face me there.”
“You’re willing to risk our lives for a Space Ring? But make no mistake, I won’t be returning it,” Peng Gengkun retorted.
“Then it’s settled. To the Death Match Arena with you!” Yan Xinheng declared, striding toward the distant column of light.
Peng Gengkun’s eyebrows lifted slightly, sensing something amiss. “I managed to overpower Yan Xinheng with the Shocking Wind Step before, yet victory eluded me. Now, with my improved skills, winning seems almost guaranteed. But Yan Xinheng isn’t a fool; he wouldn’t challenge me unless he was sure of his victory.”
Peng Gengkun was baffled, so he simply shook his head and mused, “Regardless of his intentions, I’ll handle it with my strength. With the power I possess now, I can easily overpower him!”
With that thought, Peng Gengkun followed him out.
Though Peng Gengkun was not inclined to take a life, if Yan Xinheng insisted on a battle to the death, he would have no choice but to accept the challenge.
Peng Gengkun would not back down under any circumstances.
The voice of the Disciplinary Elder echoed throughout the Flying Cloud Sect. It reached not only Yan Xinheng and Peng Gengkun, but also some of the Inner Sect disciples and Direct Disciples.
While the Direct Disciples were likely to continue their cultivation and not attend, a number of Inner Sect disciples showed visible excitement.
“The Death Match Arena is open!”
“Come on! Let’s head to the Death Match Arena!”
A buzz of conversation rose among the Inner Sect disciples as they hurried toward the arena.
Xi Yingzhu, upon hearing the announcement, made no move to join them. She was focused, channeling her technique to refine the Astral Energy within her.
“Yingzhu, aren’t you curious to see what’s happening?” asked a strikingly handsome young man seated across from her.
Xi Yingzhu replied without looking up, “That affair is of no concern to me.”
The young man chuckled and prodded, “Yet, I heard that you were ready to discipline Wei Mingzhi in the Cultivation Room a few days back, all for an Outer Sect disciple?”
Her expression stiffened momentarily, and she glanced up at him with an odd look on her face.
“Do you doubt me? I’ve made it clear that the man I marry will undoubtedly be a prodigy.”
He smiled gently at Xi Yingzhu and said, “Yingzhu, there’s no need for annoyance. I’m aware of your thoughts. I merely wanted to remind you of something. You are my betrothed.”
After a brief silence, Xi Yingzhu responded, “Dou Xi’ao, neither of us are Direct Disciples at the moment. Our engagement isn’t official yet. You’re aware of that.”
“True,” he conceded. “But should the Flying Cloud Sect’s current generation of disciples produce a Direct Disciple, rest assured, it will be me.”
Dou Xi’ao was on the verge of speaking when Xi Yingzhu rose and left the room.
Unable to contain his curiosity, Dou Xi’ao called out, “Yingzhu, where are you going?”
“I’m going to see what’s really happening,” Xi Yingzhu replied without turning back, and she departed.
Dou Xi’ao watched her go, a smile playing on his lips, but he made no move to follow.
When Peng Gengkun arrived at the Death Match Arena, he was taken aback.
It wasn’t the arena itself that surprised him; rather, it was the crowd that had gathered. Outer Sect disciples, elite disciples, and even Inner Sect disciples were present, but Peng Gengkun was most astonished to see Elders among them.
His mind reeled with shock. He had no choice but to face the upcoming battle.
The Leviathan-roc System had consumed the Space Ring, and while he could produce some snacks and other valuables, none of them compared to the worth of the Space Ring.
“If I have to fight, I might as well use this chance to gain something,” he thought.
With that in mind, Peng Gengkun turned to Yan Xinheng and inquired, “If I lose, I’ll give you back the Space Ring. But if I win, what will you do?”
Yan Xinheng’s laugh was cold. “If you lose, you’ll surrender the Space Ring, and you’ll be lucky if you can even save your own skin!”
