Chapter 26
C26 – Hope Was Destroyed
“I’m hoping Jiang Que sent for Pann Qiu because he’s found the time to pass on the improved Chaos Spell to her!”
“That’s probably the case. Even though Jiang Que turned down Pann Qiu’s romantic advances, she was the first person he encountered, and she’s a peerless beauty. Even if he harbors no romantic feelings for her, he surely holds her in high regard.”
“To safeguard his authority and reputation, Jiang Que wouldn’t divulge all his cultivation methods, but it’s very likely he’d make an exception for Pann Qiu.”
“If that’s true, then it’s fantastic news. Even if Jiang Que is instructing Pann Qiu behind closed doors, the Scanner can easily detect it. That way, we’ll be able to master the improved Chaos Spell!”
The audience of the Flame Mountain Tribe, who had been in a state of gloom and anxiety since a prodigy reached the Spirit Release Stage Level 1 without receiving the improved Chaos Spell from Jiang Que, were now invigorated with hope.
They were all eager for Jiang Que to have summoned Pann Qiu with the intention of privately teaching her the enhanced Chaos Spell.
If so, everyone could succeed in learning the improved Chaos Spell.
Meanwhile, journalists from major news outlets were on standby for Jiang Que’s decision, ready to break the story the moment it unfolded.
In a rush to capture viewers, some unscrupulous websites prematurely announced that Jiang Que had already imparted the improved Chaos Spell to Pann Qiu.
“Patriarch, did you need to see me?” Pann Qiu arrived at Jiang Que’s cabin, her face alight with anticipation.
Yet, her expectations were not for the enhanced Chaos Spell.
Unaware of the improved version, unlike those beyond the Exile Planet, the Flame Mountain Tribe’s clansmen, including talents like Pann Qiu who had reached the Spirit Release Stage Level 1 but could no longer advance, believed their current cultivation method was the pinnacle.
They were content with it and hadn’t contemplated any alternatives.
Pann Qiu was actually hoping that Jiang Que, having been secluded in his cabin for so long, might be seeking her company out of loneliness, possibly for a sexual encounter.
But undoubtedly, such thoughts were the furthest thing from Jiang Que’s mind.
He looked at Pann Qiu and inquired, “Are there any fast ferocious beasts near the tribe?”
“Lightning Ferret,” Pann Qiu responded, feeling a sense of disappointment she dared not reveal.
“Where can we find this Lightning Ferret?” Jiang Que pressed on.
“It resides in a cave twenty miles to the south of the tribe,” Pann Qiu clarified.
Jiang Que’s brow furrowed slightly as he asked, “Do you have any method to lure it out?”
“Food! The Lightning Ferret is attracted to the scent of cooked meat. It frequently raids our tribe for roasted meat. Its speed is so great that we are powerless to stop it,” she explained.
“Even now, after we’ve channeled Spirit Power into our legs to multiply our speed, we’re still no match for it,” Pann Qiu added. “Fortunately, it’s small and doesn’t eat much. It only steals a few pieces of roasted meat, so we’ve learned to ignore it.”
Jiang Que nodded and instructed, “Gather a few people and prepare some raw meat and firewood. Once you’re ready, let me know. We’ll set out together to find the Lightning Ferret.”
“Understood,” Pann Qiu replied, leaving the wooden house with her disappointment in tow.
The viewers watching the screen shared in the disappointment.
“Just as we thought, Jiang Que’s nature makes it impossible for him to share all his cultivation methods with Pann Qiu, adding an element of uncertainty to his authority and prestige.”
“Not even Pann Qiu, the peerless beauty, is an exception! It turns out Jiang Que only wanted to find a suitable target to test his new cultivation method.”
“I’m so frustrated. I’m tempted to jump through the screen and plead with Jiang Que to stop tormenting me; I wish he’d just share the refined Chaos Spell outright.”
“I think I might need to see a therapist too. My heart rate doubled when Pann Qiu walked in. And when I realized Jiang Que was only inquiring about a fast ferocious beast, I nearly had a breakdown.”
“When will we get the chance to learn the improved Chaos Spell?”
Everyone was deeply disappointed.
Their hopes were utterly dashed, leaving them feeling extremely dejected.
Consequently, they lost all curiosity about Jiang Que’s new cultivation method.
After all, the struggle to learn the improved Chaos Spell was just too unbearable.
Inside the wooden cabin, Pann Qiu busied herself preparing meat and gathering firewood.
Jiang Que didn’t waste a moment. He sat cross-legged on the wooden bed and entered a state of deep meditation.
Over the past two months, he had devoted himself to researching and developing new cultivation methods, only practicing when he was mentally fatigued or his Spirit Power was depleted.
As a result, Jiang Que’s progress had plateaued.
To date, he remained at Spirit Release Stage Level 1.
However, thanks to his sporadic training sessions and remarkable talent, he was on the cusp of advancing to Spirit Release Stage Level 2.
Pann Qiu’s efficiency left much to be desired.
It took over half an hour before a knock finally echoed at the door.
Pann Qiu and Roger, accompanied by a group of robust clansmen, stood outside with deference.
They brought along an abundance of raw meat and firewood.
Jiang Que promptly declared it was time to set out.
The party trudged through the thick snow, making their way southward out of the valley.
They reached the cave inhabited by the Lightning Ferret.
Jiang Que chose not to enter right away.
The cave was cramped, barely large enough for one person.
Despite Pann Qiu’s account of the Lightning Ferret’s swift and potent attacks, its overall strength wasn’t formidable.
If they could entice it out, they could avoid unnecessary risks.
Besides, the cave wasn’t an ideal place for him to test his new cultivation method.
Following Jiang Que’s direction, Pann Qiu and the others swiftly cleared a space roughly ten meters from the cave entrance.
They ignited the firewood and secured the wooden rack.
Then, they began roasting the meat, occasionally sprinkling crushed plant debris over it to enhance its aroma.
The savory scent of the meat wafted in all directions, carried by the biting northern wind into the confines of the cave.
With Jiang Que’s enhanced abilities, his hearing had significantly improved.
Before long, he detected an odd noise emanating from within the cave.
Suddenly, a burst of white light shot out from the darkness.
The light moved with incredible speed, its trajectory nearly imperceptible if not for Jiang Que’s sharp vision.
In a flash, the white light halted before the grill.
It was then that Jiang Que got a clear view of the source: a snow-white ferret, no more than thirty centimeters in length.
“As expected of a Level 9 Lightning Ferret. While its strength may not be formidable, its speed is truly remarkable.”
“The scanner indicates that the Lightning Ferret’s top speed reaches 121 meters per second.”
“Yet, that’s not the Lightning Ferret’s ultimate speed. The data shows that a Level 9 Lightning Ferret can achieve speeds of up to 180 meters per second. However, it can only maintain this burst of speed for about ten minutes.”
“That’s incredibly powerful. A speed of 180 meters per second means it can cover more than ten kilometers in just one minute. In ten minutes, it could travel well over a hundred kilometers.”
“Jiang Que might have chosen the wrong training target this time. Forget 180 meters per second, even at its earlier speed of 120 meters per second, he wouldn’t stand a chance of catching it.”
“By my estimates, after Jiang Que employs his new cultivation method, his speed should be somewhere between 80 and 90 meters per second.”
“I believe Jiang Que’s new cultivation method could easily bring his speed up to 100 meters per second.”
Seeing the Lightning Ferret’s astonishing speed, surpassing 100 meters per second, the previously disheartened audience finally perked up with a renewed sense of excitement.
