Chapter 5
C5 – Not Knowing How to Refine Medicine?
Is Jiaang Lin worthless?
Then what does that make Jiaang Feng? Less than worthless?
Initially, Jiaang Feng had vowed to brutally punish Jiaang Lin, but in the end, he was effortlessly taken down by Jiaang Lin in just a few moves.
A cultivator at the Body Refining Level One was unable to defeat someone considered worthless, with blocked meridians and unable to cultivate martial arts.
If word of this got out, Jiaang Feng would be utterly disgraced within the Jiaang family, becoming everyone’s laughingstock.
“Jiaang Xue, you’re far too protective of this bad boy. How dare you ambush me in secret!” Jiaang Feng suddenly accused, glaring at Jiaang Xue with a stern voice.
The surrounding Jiaang family disciples snapped out of their astonishment and turned their gazes towards Jiaang Xue, who stood behind Jiaang Lin.
Jiaang Xue, the Jiaang family’s First Martial Dao Talent, possessed strength at the Qi Gathering Level One Peak Stage. He would soon advance to the Level One Peak Stage, far surpassing Jiaang Feng in power.
If she had wanted to launch a covert attack on Jiaang Feng, with his skills, he wouldn’t have been able to defend against or evade her.
“So that’s it. I actually thought it was Jiaang Lin who struck. It turns out Jiaang Xue was aiding him from the shadows.”
“Pfft, trash will always be trash, always hiding behind a girl. He’s destined to never amount to anything,” the Jiaang family disciples sneered with contempt.
From a distance, Jiaang Xue remained composed, uttering not a single word.
Did she launch a sneak attack?
No.
Jiaang Xue hadn’t done anything. The truth was that Jiaang Feng was knocked down by Jiaang Lin himself, which is why Jiaang Xue had been so surprised before.
“You can’t defeat me, so you claim Xue is protecting me from the shadows. I’ve seen shameless, but you take it to a whole new level!” Jiaang Lin said, a mocking smile playing on his lips as he stepped forward and delivered a fierce kick to Jiaang Feng’s groin.
The sound of a pig being slaughtered once again reverberated above the Jiaang family estate.
This time, Jiaang Feng’s mouth foamed and his eyes rolled back as he collapsed unconscious.
“How boring. He passed out with just one kick.”
Jiaang Lin dusted off his hands, clearly unimpressed.
“Let’s go, Xue.”
Without another glance at Jiaang Feng, Jiaang Lin continued on with Jiaang Xue toward the Family Medicine Pavilion.
Jiaang Feng’s entourage hesitated to confront Jiaang Lin, wary of Jiaang Xue who stood by his side.
”Mr. Jiaang Lin, how did you manage that?” Jiaang Xue inquired, her face alight with curiosity as they walked.
Earlier, Jiaang Lin had swiftly taken down Jiaang Feng with a few moves. Many Jiaang family disciples assumed it was her covert assistance.
But Jiaang Xue knew better.
Thus, she was eager to learn what technique Jiaang Lin had used to so easily defeat Jiaang Feng, who was at Body Refining Level One.
”Acupoint striking,” Jiaang Lin said with a slight smile.
“Acupoint striking?”
Jiaang Xue paused, unfamiliar with the term.
“You might not know this, Xue, but the human body has many acupoints connected to the nervous system. Some acupoints, when hit, can paralyze a person, as if they’ve been electrocuted, instantly incapacitating them,” Jiaang Lin elaborated.
In his past life, he wasn’t just the strongest warrior on the Divine Martial Continent; he was also the First Pill Refining Master. His knowledge of the human acupoints was extensive.
It was this expertise in acupoint striking that allowed Jiaang Lin to defeat Jiaang Feng, who was at Body Refining Level One, with ease.
Acupoint striking doesn’t require the awakening of a Battle Soul or the use of Genuine Qi.
Even an ordinary person, if proficient in acupoint striking, could easily handle an opponent at Body Refining Level One or even Level Two.
Of course, when there is a vast disparity in strength, the art of acupuncture has limited effectiveness.
Previously, Jiaang Lin had deftly targeted an acupoint on Jiaang Feng’s fist, rendering his right hand instantly numb and in excruciating pain, which stripped him of his combat abilities.
Listening to Jiaang Lin describe the intricacies of acupuncture, Jiaang Xue was spellbound, finding it utterly fascinating.
She had never before encountered such a technique.
Her curiosity piqued, she wondered how Mr. Jiaang Lin had come to possess such extensive knowledge.
To her understanding, Jiaang Lin had previously detested martial arts due to his inability to practice them, and he had never delved into martial arts research.
Despite her curiosity, Jiaang Xue refrained from probing too deeply.
One thing was clear to her: Mr. Jiaang Lin was no longer the man he used to be!
In a month’s time, he might indeed be capable of defeating Qiao Junhan!
With this thought, Jiaang Xue found herself, almost without realizing it, accompanying Jiaang Lin to the Family Medicine Pavilion.
The guards initially intended to bar Jiaang Lin’s entry, but seeing Jiaang Xue by his side, they stood aside, allowing Jiaang Lin and Jiaang Xue to enter the Medicine Pavilion hand in hand.
The Medicine Pavilion was a vital resource for the Jiaang family.
Stored within were numerous spiritual medicines, which the family’s herbalists could use to concoct various medicinal liquids, aiding Jiaang family disciples in enhancing their Cultivation Level.
Being an herbalist was a rather common profession.
With some knowledge of medicinal liquid preparation, most people could become herbalists.
However, herbalists did not possess the skills of a Pill Refining Master.
On the Divine Martial Continent, pills were far more valuable to cultivators than medicinal liquids.
This was why herbalists held a lower status compared to Pill Refining Masters.
In comparison, a Pill Refining Master was adept not only at pill refinement but also at preparing medicinal liquids, whereas an herbalist was limited to the latter.
The distinction between a pharmacist and a Pill Refining Master is significant, and it’s precisely this gap that results in the Pill Refining Master’s far superior status. Upon entering the Medicine Pavilion, Jiaang Lin observed numerous pharmacists and their apprentices diligently concocting medicinal liquids.
“Two taels of Gold Grass, one Silver Thread Fruit, three stalks of Water Fragrance Flower…” an elder in the pavilion recited continuously.
The apprentices, following the elder’s commands, gathered various spirit herbs and Spirit Fruits to refine the liquids.
“Damn it, failed again. Where did I go wrong?” the elder muttered, frustration evident as he watched the contents of the furnace turn to useless slag under the intense heat of the flames.
This elder was the Jiaang family’s most skilled pharmacist, possessing extensive knowledge of medicinal theory and having produced many best-selling recovery potions that were favored by numerous cultivators in Clear Water Town. However, since the Qiao family had enlisted a Pill Refining Master who created an Essence Cultivating Pill capable of healing injuries more rapidly, the Jiaang family’s business had been in decline.
If this trend persisted, the Qiao family would undoubtedly dominate. Consequently, the Jiaang family leadership tasked the elder with a critical mission: to develop a recovery potion even more potent than the Essence Cultivating Pill. Regrettably, despite months of trials, the elder’s concoction, the Essence Returning Liquid, remained unsuccessful. The continual failures left him deeply disheartened and irritable.
Resolute, the elder turned and made his way to a section of the Medicine Pavilion to search for an ancient tome detailing the preparation of the Essence Returning Liquid, hoping to pinpoint the error in his method.
“Elder Xue, I would like to collect some spirit medicines,” Jiaang Lin approached the elder and respectfully requested.
”I’m busy at the moment. If you need spirit medicines, help yourself!” Elder Xue responded curtly, his attention fixed on the ancient volumes about the Essence Returning Liquid.
“Thank you, Elder Xue,” Jiaang Lin said with a smile. He then proceeded to the medicine cabinet and selected several spirit medicines he desired. “Elder Xue, by adding a Heart Condensing Stone to the Essence Returning Liquid, you can create an Essence Returning Pill. It has the power to heal a cultivator’s injuries in the span of a single breath.”
Jiaang Lin offered this advice with a smile, knowing that Elder Xue had been tirelessly seeking a way to refine a more effective recovery potion for the benefit of the Jiaang family. As a disciple of the Jiaang family, Jiaang Lin was generous in sharing his insights with Elder Xue.
“Alright,” Elder Xue responded nonchalantly upon hearing Jiaang Lin’s suggestion. He was well aware of Jiaang Lin’s reputation within the Jiaang family as someone who lacked knowledge in both martial arts and pill refining. How could he take Jiaang Lin’s advice seriously?
”Master, look, look!” exclaimed one of Elder Xue’s disciples, rushing over with a white pill the size of a pigeon’s egg cradled in his hand. Elder Xue was taken aback at the sight of it.
”Where did this come from?” he asked.
“A disciple was careless and accidentally added a Heart Condensing Stone to the Essence Returning Liquid. The liquid then condensed into this pill,” the Medicine Pavilion apprentice explained truthfully.
”Heart Condensing Stone?” Elder Xue was astonished, suddenly remembering Jiaang Lin’s parting words. The Essence Returning Liquid, when combined with a Heart Condensing Stone, could indeed produce the Essence Returning Pill, capable of healing a cultivator’s injuries in just a moment’s time.
Elder Xue had initially dismissed the idea, but the existence of this pill, formed from the condensed Essence Returning Liquid, proved that Jiaang Lin’s words were far from baseless.
“Quick! Test the effectiveness of this pill,” Elder Xue commanded, snapping out of his astonishment. As it turned out, the Essence Returning Pill worked exactly as Jiaang Lin had described; a cultivator at the Body Refining Stage could recover from an injury in merely one breath.
Upon testing the effects of the Essence Returning Pill with his team, they found that it lived up to Jiaang Lin’s claims. Indeed, a practitioner at the Body Refining Stage, when injured, could fully recover within moments of taking the pill.
This revelation sent waves of elation through Elder Xue, as well as the many pharmacists and apprentices in the Medicine Pavilion. They were overjoyed, convinced that the Essence Returning Pill would make a splash in Clear Water Town and could even rival, if not surpass, the Qiao family’s Essence Cultivating Pill.
Elder Xue was profoundly shaken by this discovery. Now, his curiosity was piqued – how did Jiaang Lin possess such extensive knowledge of medicine? How could he, known for his skills in medicine refinement, understand so much?
