Aiming to be the perfect butler for my lady

Chapter 76- Monster

Chapter 76- Monster

So, what did Alatia have in mind that she proposed to let Kyle explore the vault in exchange for her forgiveness?

A long time ago, when she was only four years old, a war was going on. Naturally, she wasn't involved in it however, she had grown enough to listen and remember things which she deemed important.

One of those days, when her father used to remain concerned all the time, he was spending time with her mother. Alatia was also there.

They thought she was playing with cards and wasn't paying attention to them, but in actuality, her whole focus was on what her father said. The situation of their defense and how likely the Emperor himself has to participate in the war.

It was then, that she heard a term which highly intrigued her. A treasure that was kept in the vault and only the Emperor of each generation could utilize it. One of the rarest items that many people are not even aware of.

The droplet of revival.

It was decided that along with the mythical armor, which originally was decided to be rewarded, Kyle would get the opportunity to explore the vault and take one item to his liking.

This was absurd.

In the canon, even Logan wasn't allowed to go inside, despite the world being surrounded by mayhem at that time. It was an absolute rule that other than the royalties and the Prime Minister no one can enter the Vault regardless of their rank and position. The safety system of the vault would immediately expel any intruder.

And that rigid rule was broken because of the affection of a father towards his daughter.

'Now they hate me even more...great...' Feeling the hostility from the Emperor and Edward, Kyle couldn't help but sigh.

He was currently being accompanied by Alatia and Edmund on either side and the previously mentioned hostile entities along with the Prime Minister were walking a few meters ahead.

Their feet were heading toward the inner palace where no one was allowed to venture—unless they were being escorted by the Emperor himself.

"Kyle, you do know what you have to pick from there right?" Hearing her soft whisper Kyle couldn't help but feel a little nervous.

The moment she uttered 'droplet' he knew this girl was up to no good.

The droplet of rebirth? The resurrection tool which allows the person to escape their death? Certainly, such a tool holds a lot of importance and it wasn't something a mere butler like him should be dreaming of.

However, Alatia has given him 'that' look which says, 'I would be mad with you for life if you don't take that out'. Naturally, she was looking out for him but still, retrieving the Empire's greatest treasure like this felt unsettling.

'Well, since this is for my own good, I shouldn't be fussy about it....' Kyle convinced himself. His reputation has already gone down the drain, so why not he could become a little selfish and let them hate him more?

"We are here," Edmund called out in a quiet tone before Alatia and Kyle tore their eyes away from each other and looked toward their front.

The large several-foot-tall golden doors of the vault stood across them—releasing an intimidating aura. Even without having the gift of aura, Kyle could feel that there was something ominous about this place.

Canonically, this place wasn't explored by the Protagonist so Kyle doesn't know what awaits inside.

The Emperor moved forward and drew a dagger before grazing his thumb and planting it over the orb affixed to the massive door.

He drew a pattern over it, and in the next moment, the ground began to rumble.

Kyle supported Alatia and Edmund who both were about to fall while keeping his eyes constant on the massive doors.

The soldiers who were with the Emperor suddenly turned away from the vault—after receiving word from the Prime Minister.

'Are they not even allowed to see what's inside?' Kyle wondered.

The Emperor looked over his shoulder before Kyle nodded and walked forward.

Under the intense gaze of the Prime Minister, he walked towards the Emperor and stood in front of him.

The blond man looked at Kyle with his gaze narrowed before he took off a ring from his index finger gave it to Kyle, and said,

"Keep this with you all the time when you are inside." His voice was stern and held a sense of warning which urged Kyle to diligently nod.

He looked at Alatia who was also looking at him. They shared a glance that only the two could understand before Kyle turned to look at the vault.

Taking a deep breath, he clenched the ring and walked inside.

[Back in the academy]

The investigation of Professor Ceaser's death was reaching no conclusive point—much to Clara's relief.

She wouldn't mind getting punished for the murder but she didn't want Kyle's name to get involved in this.

'Haaah....even though you promised...' Thinking about Kyle she couldn't help but heave a sigh. She recently discovered that the person she yearned for and dreamt of was also in the same Academy as hers. She wished that now they could share a hidden and forbidden relationship between a student and teacher while doing things in secrecy and getting all lovey-dovey behind everyone's back. However, she was being too hopeful.

The vulgar thoughts she had required her to first make Kyle fall for her. She knew that he cared about her...but it wasn't enough for him to become desperate for her.

'Princess is an absolute obstacle...' She couldn't help but feel a little exasperated thinking about the girl who clings to Kyle all the time. Clara envies her more than the crow envies the cuckoo.

"Professor Clara." Her train of thought broke upon hearing a familiar voice calling out for her.

She turned around to find it was the familiar black-haired individual named Logan who had been one of the most polite and diligent children in her class.

"How can I help you?" Clara asked politely.

Logan blushed slightly, being directed with such a radiant smile as, momentarily, he forgot what he approached her for. However, he soon collected his thoughts and asked the lady,

"Ma'am, can you allow me to have a spar with a fellow freshman?"

Hearing his words, Clara tilted her head. Not because she was confused about his approach—the Professors can authorize a spar between students under their supervision—she was confused about why he would ask her for permission.

"In my opinion, Professor Noel would be preferable for this matter, no?" The head combat instructor was the one who mostly facilitated the spars between students.

Logan wryly smiled at that and said, "He said I would be folded in two if I tried fighting her."

Clara's brows elevated as she asked, "Alatia?"

Logan felt bitter that not only that girl but even Alatia was rumored to be strong enough to brutally beat him. However, he didn't show displeasure since he indeed had lost to the Princess.

Shaking his head, he told Clara, "The new student who goes by the name Charlotte. Can you help me spar against her? No teacher is allowing anyone to go against her from the first year. She only trains against third year or the instructors themselves."

Clara chuckled hearing his pitiful voice as she asked him, "Come with me. I will show you why she isn't allowed to fight with freshmen."

Logan mindlessly nodded and began to follow Clara.

They walked towards the indoor arena where no freshmen were allowed after school. However, because of Professor Clara's presence, the guard didn't stop Logan and they entered inside.

The moment he stepped in, a violent force repelled him—urging him to cover his face and stabilize his feet or he might get swept away by the fierce aura.

Once the current passed by, Logan slowly parted his eyes and looked at the arena.

"Hell no....."

Laid inside the ring were several upperclassmen—beaten black and blue while breathing heavily. Logan knew some of them since they were placed in the leaderboard top twenty. And currently, all of them were lying half-dead on the ground.

Amidst the defeated ones stood the person Logan was eager to battle.

Her lithe figure was adorned with some injuries—enhancing her beauty by several folds. Her eyes remained emotionless like she couldn't feel the elation of defeating so many young warriors all by herself. She was like a lone warrior; standing at the pinnacle.

Logan was looking at the brown-haired girl with his lips parted in shock when he heard Clara's amused whisper,

"Do you still want to fight that monster?"
