Chapter 12: A crazy man
Dan looked at Damien who was lazily lying on the bed. It remained silent for a while before there was a brilliant white light which flashed inside the room.
The light was too vibrant for Damien to ignore, he scrunched his brows and opened his eyes. As soon as he opened his eyes, his gaze met with a tiny hologram of his favourite actress.
With her blonde hair tied in two long pigtails and her forget-me-not blue eyes, the hologram looked down at him.
"Host, if you want to become a great doctor then you should listen to me," the hologram also copied the voice of his favourite actress.
"UWAH!" Damien screamed in fright as he rolled off the bed. "You——what are you doing? Were you using a man's voice till now? Why are you suddenly using a woman's voice now?"
"Host, data cannot be defined by the gender norms of humans. It is a set of instructions which can take any form or shape according to the wishes of its user," Dan explained calmly, the hologram crossed its arms and continued, "But if you feel uncomfortable then you can start calling me Dani or Dana, as per your wishes."
Was that the problem here? Damien pressed the heel of his palm on his forehead with an annoyed expression.
"What made you change your appearance all of a sudden?" Damien asked with a throbbing headache. He had a feeling that he knew the answer to this question already but he wanted to hear it from this A.I system.
"It's because I heard you say in the lab that you would be willing to do anything for this woman," the hologram answered and Damien smashed his fists onto the bed in sheer humiliation.
Sure enough, this system had been watching him from the very start.
It was something really embarrassing that he had said while being half drunk but Dan had taken it literally as he could not understand the difference between drunk and conscious state.
"What do you want me to do? Dan——No, Dani," Damien changed the way he was addressing his system now and looked at the hologram. "Do you want me to go to the main building and treat the patient?"
"That's correct."
"However, do you not remember that I have no status, position or power in this family?" Damien tried to remind Dani. He sat down on the floor crossed legs and looked at the cute hologram. "I don't think that they would let me treat this patient."
Damien hadn't forgotten how the guards even refused to talk about this matter in front of him. Clearly, Wistoria asked this matter to be hidden from him and his family.
Most likely she was worried that he would leak this matter to Emiliano for the sake of regaining his position in the royal family again.
Though her worries were completely unjustified, Damien understood her lack of trust in him.
If he were in her shoes, he wouldn't have trusted someone who couldn't even defeat his younger brother and was kicked out of his position.
With his current status as a slave, maybe if Damien of the past was to know about Nicolas's condition, he might leak the information to his brother.
Even if they had a feud, Emiliano was the only one who could save Damien from this tragic situation despite being the cause of it.
Desperation could make people go crazy, Damien had faced such situations many times.
"As a doctor, it is your duty to prevent a patient from dying. Isn't that what you wanted? To save every life possible?" Dani spoke in a cold static voice. "If you refuse to follow the path that you have chosen —— then host, you can only be counted as trash."
Trash…?
Damien's left brow twitched, if this hologram was not just a set of instructions, he would have burned it.
However, before Damien could say anything, Dani went ahead and continued, "If you save this patient, your skill —— Sixty Seven Needle will level up. Other than that, you will also get an antibiotic potion."
"This potion can be further processed. The host can then use it as a spell similar to a healer in this world."
Antibiotic potion?
If Damien was to speak the truth, this reward was quite tempting.
He raised his head and looked at the hologram, however, the appearance of the little floating hologram brought some rather dark memories to his mind.
Damien covered his eyes and waved his hand, "First change your appearance back to how it was."
The cute little hologram tilted her head before muttering, "Humans are indeed quite picky."
Her words left Damien to choke on the sip of water that he had taken. He turned to look at the hologram but by then Dan had taken the form of a little boy wearing a doctor's coat.
Compared to the first appearance, this looked better.
"If you are feeling alright, why don't you go and treat the patient? None of the healers can treat him, host. Only you with your medical skills and my knowledge can save him," Dan said to Damien in a childish voice.
Damien sighed. He truly did not wish to get entangled in a messy situation like such but upon hearing Dan say that no one other than him could treat this patient, Damien couldn't possibly turn a blind eye to the situation.
With another sigh, he slid off the bed and put on his shoes.
"If I get kicked or killed, you better be prepared to provide me with shelter," said Damien as he pushed the door of his room and headed towards the main building.
Dan, who was floating above his head, glanced at Damien before calmly replying, "Dan is an AI system built and created for the most accurate and precise treatment of humans. Dan cannot hunt down shelters for you, host."
Damien sneered but refrained from saying anything as one of the servants who was cleaning the horse stable was now looking at Damien with a wary gaze.
Even with his toes, Damien could guess that this boy took him as a crazy man.
