Chapter 13
A series of roars swept through the Qin family members in the hall like a violent storm.
The shocking information left everyone's minds blank, their gazes fixed on the nine-year-old boy.
Everyone's minds were simultaneously rumbling: How is this possible! How could this be!
Qin Yan's brain almost stopped functioning. She dared not think that her child had not actually died? That he had been raised by Li Zhi alongside Qiao Meng all this time?
Was that her child?
Li Ziqiao didn't notice the way others were looking at him. Horrified by the terrible state of his father and grandmother, he anxiously tried to go to them, but was instantly grabbed by the arm by Qin Xian.
Qin Xian was the first to come to his senses, looking down intently at that young face.
Ji Fei said this was his own nephew?
Years ago when Qin Yan suddenly went into premature labor, by the time the whole family rushed over, they only saw a stillborn baby.
That was at the private hospital they had supported Li Zhi in establishing.
Everything... had room for manipulation.
Qin Xian's brows furrowed tightly, his expression terrifyingly deep.
Ji Fei, having rudely kicked someone, stood steady. Her mind was in chaos when she saw Li Zhi, whom she had kicked down, supporting his bloodied face. Already in too much pain to care about his image, he roared in mad fury: "You!"
But suddenly seeing Li Ziqiao held by Qin Xian behind Ji Fei, and Qin Xian turning his head to look at him with eyes that seemed to see a dead man.
Li Zhi felt all the blood in his body flow backwards.
Ji Fei, steeling herself, found an excuse: "I felt something was off before. Li Ziqiao looks too much like the Qin family. And just now in the video, I saw your mistress. The mother and son don't look alike at all."
Li Zhi was so flustered he began to stutter, "You... what nonsense are you spouting!"
It's her again! Her and her wild speculations.
Ji Fei also knew that what she said sounded too absurd and might upset the Qin family.
After all, such matters couldn't be casually discussed, especially for a woman who had lost a child before and might never be able to have her own child again. Even false hope could be a fatal blow.
But there was no choice. No matter how outrageous, it had to be said. This was too big of an issue; she couldn't let that scumbag take away the innocent child. Who knows what he might do to the child?
Ji Fei could only turn to Qin Xian with a pleading look, "Um, don't you think he looks like..."
"Yes, he looks very much like my elder sister. I don't believe this is a coincidence."
A steady voice rang out. Ji Fei looked up in surprise, meeting Qin Xian's firm black eyes.
There wasn't a trace of doubt in that gaze, as if he unconditionally believed her and stood on her side. It stunned Ji Fei.
[Is he... alright?]
Qin Xian's mouth twitched. He turned to Li Zhi and said, "Our Qin family has doubts about this child's identity. We will verify it."
Li Zhi stared in disbelief at everything unfolding. Just a moment ago, he was fantasizing about how to take revenge on the Qin family, and now there was an unexpected turn of events, completely unforeseen.
"Have you all gone mad? Li Ziqiao is mine and Qiao Meng's child. Qin Yan's child back then..."
It was only at this moment that he realized he was utterly incapable of bearing the consequences if this matter was exposed. He was so terrified that he even forgot to breathe, let alone loudly protest.
Especially after meeting Qin Xian's icy gaze, the rest of his words completely failed to come out. He understood that even if he defended himself convincingly, it wouldn't change Qin Xian's decision.
The outcome was already determined!
And his silence had indirectly verified everything.
Li Ziqiao was still young. He seemed to understand something but couldn't quite make sense of it. Instinctively, he tried to break free from Qin Xian to find his father.
Even though his father had always been cold towards him, even though his mother had never been kind to him, weren't they... still his parents?
Suddenly, a warm embrace accompanied by a hoarse sob enveloped him.
Li Ziqiao looked up to see that gentle aunt holding his shoulders, her face full of shock. Those beautiful eyes were brimming with tears, yet she strained to keep them wide open, trying to see him clearly.
As if infected by her emotion, Li Ziqiao suddenly felt a painful ache in his heart.
"Aun... Aunty..."
Qin Yan looked at Li Ziqiao as if something was on the tip of her tongue. With trembling hands, she gently caressed Li Ziqiao's cheeks.
That instinctive blood connection made her so distressed that she couldn't utter a word, only making unconscious sounds, "Ah... ah... wuwu..."
It was nine years of separation between life and death.
Finally, she fainted on the spot, supported hastily by the panicking child.
Qin's Mother also rushed over, hugging Li Ziqiao and examining him closely. "He looks like us, he looks like us! He's my eldest grandson, it's my eldest grandson!"
Nephews often resemble their uncles. With this reminder, Qin's Mother finally stopped making excuses about mere kind features. This child clearly had a seven or eight-tenths resemblance to Qin Xian and Qin Dynasty when they were young.
Qin's Father, trembling with anger, walked up to Li Zhi and silently dragged him outside. The butler held back the dazed Li's Mother.
Half an hour later, Qin Xian calmly called for an ambulance.
Under the cover of night, the entire Qin family mobilized and went to another hospital invested in by the Qin family.
Qiao Meng was also forcibly brought along.
It wasn't until this moment that Qiao Meng saw Li Zhi, unconscious with multiple fractures, and Li Ziqiao being protectively surrounded by the entire Qin family.
The paternity test results came out quickly.
Holding the test report, Qin Yan tightly embraced Li Ziqiao, crying as if she would shed all the tears of a lifetime.
Li Ziqiao stared blankly at the disheveled Qiao Meng. He opened his mouth, but the word "Mom" ultimately didn't come out. He could only ask hoarsely, "Why?"
Qiao Meng, having nothing left to lose, cursed hatefully, "This is what you mother and son owe us! You little bastard, we should have killed you back then, to let you pay for my son's life!"
She wasn't his mother. She was the demon who had stolen him from his birth mother for nine years.
Li Ziqiao finally broke down in tears, his feelings of filial affection completely shattered.
This tragic life drama left even Ji Fei without the mood to spectate. She could only look at Qiao Meng's situation.
Usually, for Ji Fei to want to spectate, she needed to know people's names and appearances.
If she had known Qiao Meng before, there might not have been such a dramatic turn of events.
[When Qiao Meng gave birth to a stillborn child, she went crazy and fought with Li Zhi. They both believed it was all Qin Yan's fault that they had to go through this. So when Qin Yan's child was born, Qiao Meng made Li Zhi give her the child as compensation.]
Ji Fei's comment: Crazy woman.
[Li Zhi agreed, also out of a need to protect his pathetic self-esteem, as if this would somehow allow him to hold his head high.]
Ji Fei's comment: Worse than a dog.
[But how could Qiao Meng possibly take good care of her rival's child? So Li Ziqiao was raised by this scummy couple to be insecure, sensitive, and frail.]
Ji Fei's comment: Poor child.
[Until Qiao Meng got pregnant again, they only wanted to love their own child wholeheartedly. Keeping Li Ziqiao around was too much of an eyesore, so they came up with this vicious plan. Before the Qin family's people arrived, Qiao Meng was still fantasizing, mocking Qin Yan for being blind enough not to recognize her own son right in front of her, imagining how she would forever resent raising her rival's child, while Li Ziqiao would always stand on her and Li Zhi's side. When the time was right, everything would be given to their biological son.]
With two loud slaps, the usually elegant Qin's Mother, disregarding all decorum, slapped Qiao Meng's face like a madwoman. The slaps left Qiao Meng's cheeks swollen and her lips bleeding.
Qiao Meng, who had been raving just moments ago, was stunned for a moment when she saw the Qin family actually lay hands on her. When she looked up again, she saw Qin's Father staring at her coldly. Even without saying a word, the aura he emanated was terrifying enough.
"I'm pregnant, you... you can't hurt me!" Qiao Meng finally cowered.
Qin Xian stepped forward and said coldly, "We won't harm your child, but you will pay the price for everything you've done."
If the Qin family didn't abide by the law, these beasts might not even be alive now.
But sometimes, being alive is more terrifying. Especially for these hypocritical beasts.
