Chapter 520: Burst (13) Ye Jinghuai’s Wit
Chapter 520
An Nuan's warm heart beat faster.
She tried to remain calm, smiling, "I didn't see any surveillance cameras at the entrance."
"They're quite hidden," the old man smiled. "Ye Jinghuai helped me set it up back then. There was a time when thieves broke into my house and stole all the cash. The police couldn't catch the thieves even after I reported it, so Ye Jinghuai suggested I install a surveillance camera. He said if it was too obvious, the intruders would notice and disable it, rendering it useless. So he installed a hidden one, embedded in the wall. Let me show you."
The old man led An Nuan to the entrance and pointed to a concealed camera, saying, "There, that's it. It looks like a house number plaque, but there's a tiny hole for the camera."
With his guidance, An Nuan noticed the small hole, something an ordinary person would easily overlook.
Did this mean...
The intruders were unaware?
An Nuan's heart raced faster.
She forced herself to stay calm, smiling, "Ye Jinghuai was quite thoughtful in setting this up for you. Most people wouldn't even know there's a camera here."
"Yeah, he's really a good man. He even reminded me not to tell others, saying the previous theft might have been an inside job since burglars usually target familiar places."
"That makes sense," An Nuan nodded.
For a moment, she even wondered if Ye Jinghuai had orchestrated the whole thing himself.
Just to help the old man install the surveillance camera.
An Nuan found herself admiring Ye Jinghuai's cleverness.
He knew that if he installed anything in his own house, the intruders would search every nook and cranny to find it. But they wouldn't suspect the neighbors, and even if they checked the surroundings out of habit, they wouldn't notice such a well-hidden spot.
She lightly bit her lip, took the old man's phone, and fiddled with it for a while.
"Uncle, I'm doing this for the first time, so it might take some time," An Nuan said.
"No hurry, no hurry. I'm just an old man with nothing better to do," he replied casually.
"Didn't you say your granddaughter was going to video call you?"
"It's only 8 PM, still early. I'm just impatient," the old man laughed shyly. "Come inside and have a seat, Miss. Take your time with it."
"Okay."
An Nuan and the old man went back inside his house.
She sat on the couch, appearing to study the phone intently.
After watching for a while, unable to make sense of it, the old man said, "Miss, you take your time. I'll go brew some tea."
"Thank you, Uncle," An Nuan replied politely.
This was her actual intention.
The so-called surveillance was just a button to connect; it didn't require so much time.
She merely wanted to avoid the old man's gaze and extract the previously stored video footage.
But she didn't want him to know about it.
The less he knew, the less trouble there would be.
She didn't want to implicate anyone else.
An Nuan's fingers kept working on the phone.
The old man brought the tea, and it was time for him to prepare dinner, so he went to cook.
After some time, An Nuan downloaded the video.
She sent it to her phone.
Then deleted it from the old man's phone.
Once everything was done, An Nuan got up from the couch and went to the old man, "Uncle, it's done. You can now view the surveillance video on your phone."
"Great!" he said warmly. "Stay for dinner, Miss."
"No need, Uncle. My husband's waiting at home."
"Then invite him over too."
"Really, no need. Maybe next time," An Nuan smiled faintly. "My husband has a colleague over for dinner tonight."
"I see," the old man clearly looked disappointed. "Next time, then. Bring your husband next time."
"Sure," An Nuan agreed.
After some pleasantries, she left the old man's house.
Outside, An Nuan's body trembled as she suppressed her emotions.
She entered the elevator and leaned against the wall, clutching her phone tightly.
She really thought she had found evidence and could barely control herself.
She knew.
Since Ye Jinghuai had foreseen the intruders would go after him, he wouldn't let them get away with it cleanly.
An Nuan returned to Hu Feng's car.
Noticing her unusual expression, Hu Feng quickly asked, "What's wrong, Madam?"
"I think I've found evidence to exonerate Ye Jinghuai from the corruption charges. Let's go back first," An Nuan tried to stay calm.
She hadn't watched the video yet, but glimpsed some suspicious screenshots.
Hu Feng was clearly surprised. "So soon?"
He had prepared himself for not finding any evidence.
Judging from the past few days, the situation hadn't seemed promising.
Yet, his wife had already found something.
Hu Feng didn't say much more.
He just drove faster, eager to get back and see the evidence his wife had found.
The two returned to the hidden room at the nightclub.
An Nuan took out her phone and opened the video.
She had downloaded footage starting from when Ye Jinghuai left Jiang City.
She watched it at double speed.
Until...
An Nuan paused and adjusted the speed to normal.
At 11 PM on the second night after Ye Jinghuai's departure.
Two men in black clothes, wearing hats and masks, carried several large boxes into Ye Jinghuai's house, staying inside for about an hour before coming out with the boxes, which were now empty based on how they carried them.
Hu Feng was also excited upon seeing this, "Mr. Ye was framed! While he was away, those two men brought in the cash."
An Nuan nodded.
But they couldn't definitively say the boxes contained money.
She zoomed in on the two men, observing their features.
They had to find these two men to prove Ye Jinghuai was framed!
An Nuan recorded their characteristics.
Once done, she called Xiao Nanchen.
"An Nuan."
"Qin Jiangdu said I could contact you if there was anything."
"Go ahead," Xiao Nanchen said seriously.
From An Nuan's tone, he could guess she had found something.
"I've found evidence that Ye Jinghuai was framed, but it's not conclusive. On the night of December 5th around 11 PM, two men sneaked into Ye Jinghuai's house carrying several large boxes, clearly bringing in cash. But we can't see what's inside the boxes, so we can't definitively say it was money. We need to find those two men to testify. I suspect they're locals from Jiang City, from the criminal underworld. I saw one of them had a black koi fish tattoo on his wrist and a colorful tattoo on his neck, but the video quality wasn't clear enough to make out the details."
